I disagree. “MMA is loved in America because it’s verging on the WWE, Great to look at but zero real skill.” 1st of all how can you compare a obvious fake sport with a real one? 2nd — WWE may be fake but it those guys are excellent athletes and it takes plenty of skill to do what they do and the same with MMA. Now if you are talking like local stuff like Cage of Honor or something regarding mma well ya its without skill but Pride, UFC, etc? No f*ing way!

I disagree. I think Chisora is. He beat Helenius in everyones eyes and did a better job on Vitali than most.

E in Denver

Fury is probably getting hit more by his own punches than his sparring partners. Or he is looking to jump to MMA. Either way not the smartest move.

Fury claims to be world class. He hasnt fought a world class fighter.

Posted August 27, 2012 4:35 am

And what’s up with trashing Fury’s opponents? for 19 fights, his opponents have been pretty damn good. Since Chisora he’s fought a number of decent matchups. Why should he be expected to make every fight more important than the last? Go pick on Deontay Wilder, who has fought nobody and is supposedly “calling out Fury” which is silly.

Posted August 27, 2012 1:36 am

Well if he’s sparring MMA fighters to “get in shape” then that’s a good thing, because no one is in better shape than MMA fighters. If he’s doing it to hone his boxing…well obviously that’s not the case. He’s not that stupid. For Chagaev he needs to practice against excellent boxers, period.

Ever see Napoleon Dynamite? Remember the self defense MMA teacher?

Posted August 26, 2012 6:58 pm

Matt Skelton was a kickboxer before becoming a boxer and did pretty well.

Posted August 26, 2012 5:36 pm

Paul McCreath thank you for a measured comment. Sure, sparring MMA guys for boxing is a bad idea but this article is so biased against a Brit fighter who actually has a go. The Price fight in the UK isn’t big enough yet, Price needs to face a washed up Yank (are there any other kind?) to sell it. MMA is loved in America because it’s verging on the WWE, Great to look at but zero real skill.

Nick diaz was sparring with andre ward a while back. Dont kno why because diaz has no boxing skill what so ever. Must have paid ward hansomely!

Posted August 26, 2012 3:21 pm

Fury has some potential. He needs a proper trainer or whatever potential he has will never be realized.

Posted August 26, 2012 2:55 pm

Good sparring is vital. Sparring with mugs, may save him money, but will come back to haunt him. He is one paced and will have to snap out of it soon.MMA and boxing are worlds apart. Can’t figure out the decision if it is true.

Ha ha righty oh looser

Fight Aficionado

Sparring MMA fighters is too easy for a boxer like Fury. He’s probably smacking the hell out of them without working up a sweat. That won’t help him get ready for Chagaev. Say what you want about him but he’s a tough veteran with decent skills.

Box smart…………. My point about Arreola is that he has a better resume than Fury. You claimed furys was better. Arreola has only lost 2 fights, and both were against world champions. Furys one big fight was against Chisora, who as youve told us plenty times in the past has lost to Haye, Vitali, and Helenius too. And you have said plenty times that Chisoras fat, a worthless thug, useless etc etc. So Fury beats him and all of a sudden he is worthy??? You and me have a missunderstanding on our hands, thats all. Im not a Fury hater, i just point out the fact that hes over hyped, and unproven. If he beats Chagaev, then carries on fighting good fighters, i will jump on board the Fury train. But untill then, hes just a big mouth domestic level fighter, who claims to be world class even tho he hasnt fought beyond domestic, and lower level european level. So if he beats Chagaev, who at 5ft 11” he should do, i will join him in saying Tyson Fury is world class

The sparring is just practice in Belgium that’s we’re his training camps are now, he’s got 3 top class German boxers coming over for 4 weeks sparring as well as Dillian Whyte

Daly jr Arreola lost all his big fights were talking about wins here and Fury as beaten better fighters then him! Arreola is a useless bum

Posted August 26, 2012 10:30 am

who shot frank

because his promoter (mick henessey) is a joke

Posted August 26, 2012 10:04 am

fury would beat dos santos easy in boxing offcourse, not only is fury a lot bigger then all ufc hw fighters, he’s also faster

Posted August 26, 2012 9:37 am

why hasent furys promoter had a word and got him a decent trainer and sparing he needs to sign with warren or matcroom its a waist he is young and has tallent i just dont get fury?

Posted August 26, 2012 9:33 am

Tyson Fury may be sparring mma fighters but I highly doubt that has anything to do with the chagaev fight. Its probably just gets some pr because its two differnt combat sports

Posted August 26, 2012 9:32 am

And you seem to have forgot that Arreola had 2 world title challenges. How mant has Fury had? And Arreola has KOd more guys than Fury has even fought! And at a higher level

Chambers also beat sam peter, and calvin brock. Did you miss those 2?

Posted August 26, 2012 8:14 am

Neither as Arreola or Chambers, there biggest wins were Chaz Wetherspoon and Dimetrenko and Furys biggest win was Chisora who would beat both of them

As for ring mag being the boxing bible, they have become a joke. has anyone noticed they dont even rank Brandon Rios anymore? Still unbeaten, was ranked number 1, yet hes dissabeared from there rankings

Box smart……….Yes mate, your right, just like i said Chagaev is a big step up, and way better than fraudley. But no, Furys record isnt better than Areollas, chambers etc. Fury hasnt beat anyone

Posted August 26, 2012 8:08 am

This fight will prove Fury belongs in the top ten cos Chagaev is ranked number 8 by the boxing bible Ring magazine, so whether anyone likes it or not Tyson is a force to be reckoned with

Posted August 26, 2012 8:06 am

Fury still as a better resume then Arreola Price Chambers Wilder and Seth Mitchell and there all older, And Chagaev is WAYYYY better then Fraudley Harrison hahaha

Posted August 26, 2012 8:04 am

Granger………… What are you talking about Furys resume? Who has he beat exactly? An out of shape Chisora? Behave yourself son! His oposition has gone down hill since chisora, and his 2 fights since pajkic shook him up have been against non punchers. Chagaev is a step up, and i applaud Fury for that. But if we really want to pick bones, Chagaev is well passed his best, and hasnt had a PROPER KO in years. Furthermore, ive been complaining that fury isnt fighting tall guys in preperation for a potential Klitschko fight, and now they bring in chagaev !?!?!?! Hes 5 ft 11”, thats shorter than me and i weigh 69kg!!! Seems like Furys ultimate goal is to get a title fight with Povetkin, and not a klitschko as he claims. But still, Chagaevs a step up, asspecialy considering Furys last fight with Vinny punch bag Madalonne. Bless

Who is this dead writer? Dreadful opposition?…… – the guy is in his early 20s and has the best resume of all contenders today. I am no fan of Tyson but his resume is excellent for only 19 fight and his age. The Wilders of US could learn from this. Wilder is 27 and more than 4 years into his pro run and his best win is against a boxrec #246…….

Furys best bet is to hook up with the k-bros training camp for awhile.Didnt he do this awhile ago with Steward?Getting together and sparring with the brothers and following some of their work-outs would be the best idea.Im sure he could get good sparing at this point but sparing with mma fighters seems fighters could get you in great shape but for sparing no not smart really.Would a baseball player train with cricket players…it might help with certain things but overall not the way to go.Anyway just hope Fury gets into great shape and moves forward.

Posted August 26, 2012 6:20 am

No harm in training with mma guys. David Haye worked with a judo for for the Derek Chisora fight.

Posted August 26, 2012 6:04 am

Ustinov former Top K1 fighter just climbing carefully on Pro Boxing Rank
Vitaliy Klitchko spend two years to transform to Pro Boxer after successfully done Pro Kick Boxing career(few time Heavy World Champ)
Dos Santos just had amateur boxing experience in Brazil (there is no one so far from Brazil who was able to shake the Boxing world either in amateur)
Silva has sparring at Wild Card (Freddy Roach Gym) and looks OK against mediocre boxers, (while boxer didn’t apply real pressure on him)
Arlovsky try to study boxing at the Wild Card, but looks pathetic against Fedor, and had been knock cold out by hands of Rogers or Kimbo consider that Arlovsky never was able to utilize Boxing skills during the fight.(because the Old habits from wrestling and kick boxing)Base on my personal experience working with Boxers and MMA fighters, I assume that it is so hard (nothing not impossible) for former wrestler, or Jiu Jitsu , even for kick boxing fighter’ s to adjust to boxers fight mentality to learn head movement defensive body movement, slickness ,,foot work etc..
So the MMA fighter tough and talented but the form of sport is different either as body composition (pay attention to this is very important) boxers body type, and wrestler or different.
I guess Fury just pick up those big and durable guys to utilize his offensive skills
But Chagaev has true boxing skills, hi speed, and volume of punch, great defense, KO power etc.
Will see how far Fury goes

Posted August 26, 2012 4:58 am

The fight with Chagaev isn’t even announced yet. Fury won’t fight Chagaev as he still has a pulse. It’s faintly beating but still enough to scare Fury from having a fight that actually means something.

Posted August 26, 2012 4:50 am

What happened to fury’s claim of fighting once a month?

Posted August 26, 2012 4:49 am

people, are you able to do basic calender math? how far is that Chagaev fight (if it happens)? when do fighters begin to spar for their opponents? what do these to cifers tell you now?
actually, Fury could use some mma style conditioning. his physique looks plain inadequate in the ring.

Posted August 26, 2012 4:37 am

Shadow Brawler

Get outta here with the combat is combat! Can I keep my skills sharp sparring with the Klitchko’s grandmother? Ask the best boxers in the world who they spar with? It aint mma fighters I guarantee you! That’s not pessimism.. That’s reality!

Posted August 26, 2012 3:08 am

Some MMA fighters are Boxers but not many. I lauged when Don Santos said he could beat and Wald…really I think Santos would last 3 rounds at most before being KO’d and he is the Heavy Weight of UFC.

Fury probably just wants a change of stance, rhythm to push him self for the fight. But Yea most MMA fighters couldn’t box themselves out of a paper bag!

Posted August 26, 2012 1:23 am

Wow he is fighting Chargev. Good opponent. Chargev chopped down Valuev or 12 rounds and went the distance with Povetkin. He is one of the best out there. This will be a real test for Fury. Good fight

Posted August 26, 2012 1:11 am

I actually think Chagaev might beat Fury, he beat Valuev back in the day.

It won’t help him, he sucks.

This has all the makings of a good Hollywood boxing comedy.

Posted August 25, 2012 10:20 pm

bro, don’t get me wrong. I don’t like MMA but everybody thinks they are the real deal and it is making me sick that bar room brawlers/ former collegiate wrestlers have become the wave of internet news. Maybe Fury thinks by having brawlers/wrestlers that can’t box spar with him will give him confidence when he faces Chagaev. You know being king of the boxing gym will raise his confidence, me thinks it’s fantasy thinking. Blame his trainer.

mma is the sport for homos with man-foot fetishs.

Haye would destroy Fury.

Posted August 25, 2012 9:20 pm

Fury is not in the David Haye league, nowhere near.

Posted August 25, 2012 9:09 pm

Don’t worry, it’s Haye, leagues above, 212lb and knockout 250lb boxers like they are middleweights.

Posted August 25, 2012 9:00 pm

This is ridiculous. Is he planning on using BJJ, wrestling, or kicking against Chaggy? Obviously not, it makes no sense to spar with MMA fighters, the only one who is remotely good at boxing is John Jones, and he’s not in the camp.

The MMA sparring partners are the ones benefiting from those sparring sessions. The only thing an MMA fighter could offer a boxer as a sparring partner would be good cardio… Save your money and go outside and run! LoL

Posted August 25, 2012 8:53 pm

Meanwhile Price is going all over Europe and America for top sparring partners.

Posted August 25, 2012 8:34 pm

Is it me ,or is sparring MMA fighters not the best of moves since most of these guys are lousy boxers .

Posted August 25, 2012 8:30 pm

Maybe Fury is afraid Chagaev will tackle him or throw a round house kick to his head. Anyway, I guess even some boxers believe MMA fighters are better in each and every aspect of fighting.
