Holyfield doesn’t really have many options. If recent reports about his financial problems are true, then he has to make as much money as possible fast. This means going for a title fight. It’s all very sad because he’s in a no win situation.

I’m sorry to hear of Holyfield’s financial situation. He had it all and enjoyed his life without any concern for tomorrow.

I’m not moralizing here as I am pro luxury cars, hussies, mansions and cash burning. I’m just saying he wrapped his own gift here and now he’s gotta open it. A bit of foresight is all it takes.

i dunno(?). all morality aside (it’s ultimately relative when you get down to it), driving luxury cars, living in spectacular mansions, impregnating hussies with impunity, and blowing money like it doesn’t matter sounds like the American male fantasy. besides, it’s not like Holyfield is complaining. in fact, he seems willing to do whatever he can to pay the piper. despite the pity and judgement being heaped upon Evander, he’s already lived enough of the good life to satisfy several lifetimes and i suspect his laughter will prevail from beginning to end. particularly if one of his dozen kids eventually steps-up to provide him with a modest but healthy living in his old age. at which point, his gamble, indulgences, and sacrifices may have been well worth it.

My buddy almost bought MC Hammer’s Porsche convertible at a bankruptcy auction. He called me after it closed and I said you screwed up dude. We should’ve been driving through Oakland in MC Hammer’s Porsche blasting “Can’t Touch This…”

Always a bummer when boxers end up broke but Holy brought this on himself by buying crazy outsized mansions before the real estate bubble burst and impregnating a dozen chicks when he was married. Put a rubber on when you blow a load in the hussies and stop buying houses with 20 bedrooms. It’s simple.

True, but those are the minority by a landslide. For every ODL there’s a bunch of Holyfields. And that’s not even getting into the guys who had great fighting careers and never really made the kind of money to be set after the sport and are walking around economically broke, physically broken and mentally damaged.

the reason why Mike tyson is more popular than Evander is that Mike is real. Mike will tell you he was a womanizer and smoked pot and used to rob people. Mike is honest about who he is. Evander will talk about god and how to treat people and not even sign a fans autograph. Evander tried to tailor an image of a god fearing man but in reality he cannot keep his snake in his pants and goes out and screws all of these women and has so many kids out of wedlock. It is difficult to feel sorry for him. Great fighter but he couldndt keep it in his pants.

I remeber Evander preaching god in the 90’s being holier than thou saying if I fight Tyson God’s on my side. Amazing, I thought. Then before the Lennox match Evander was doing it again about god and LIVING A GODLY LIFE. Lennox pointed out your a hippocrite Evander here you preach the gospal but you have 14 kids out of wedlock. Lennox was right, Evander your a disgrace !

A sorry situation but for me it’s hard to feel that sorry for the dude. He made waaaaaaaaaaay more money than most and fathered about 9 kids by multiple mothers. He must’ve known he was living beyond his means?
I thought he was mentored by some lawyer guy?

Maybe Obama can give him some bailout money.

Thats what happens when you have a bunch of kids with different women paying childsupport. The women know what they’re doing have a kid and get some money rolling in. And living in a mansion is that really necessary. Buying and giving cars away like they were iceream popsicles. Can’t say i feel sorry for him.

There is a lot of success stories about boxers and money. Look at Big George and The Klits. ODLH too.

There is only 1 thing to blame:

Feminists and their war against men. Divorce/Alimony laws are the direct result of feminist hatred against men.

I liked evander as a fighter, but have no respect for him as a person. He had an insatiable appetite for luxury and for women that was beyond mere greed. He always wanted more, and more and more for himself. The fact that he blindly satisfied every whim or urge that entered his mind speaks very poorly of him. It is hard to have any sympathy for someone who has acted in such an uncontrollably self-centred way for so long. Let him serve as a lesson for others.

Joe Louis, Jack Johnson, Joe Frazier, the list goes on for boxing champs that lived basically in poverty their last years. This has to be the cruelest sport of all: you come from such hunger that you literally have to fight your way out of it, only to see the money slip out of your hands at the end. Other sports actually take the time to teach young athletes how to deal with their sudden wealth, but in boxing the guys who are guiding you along are actually the ones taking your money from you, so no one teaches a boxer how to successfully manage their money. They grow up living with day to day money, and that’s exactly how they deal with their millions.

Evander should have spent $5 bucks on a box of condoms and read the instructions thats part of his problem. theother part is he did not need such an expensive houser, he should have got one and paid cash for it. Larry Holmes has lived in the same #395,000 since 1978, what did he need a mansion that would require a staff of 30 people to keep it up.

He needed to keep his pecker in his pants….My gawd he has 11 kids by six women and has to pay $500,000 a year in child support….So much for his Christian testimony.

I do not feel sorry for the guy, ok Great fighter in his day, but he made tons of money and like many stupid asses did not think about tomorrow. Had a gang of kids too. Now it’s help me, feel sorry for me. Live inside of your means idiot.

Posted August 9, 2012 8:42 pm

I agree. But I see at as he’s really trying to do all he can. You can’t ask more from a man in his situation.

Posted August 9, 2012 7:43 pm

I understand what you mean. But it really doesn’t seem like he just threw his money away….maybe just a slew of unfortunate events, I mean, he’s fought on too long, we wonder why? well probably because he obviously needs the money. Who knows how life really went for him, who knows what went on behind closed doors. All we know is that Holyfield is a decent guy, a great fighter and he’s in need. Nothing wrong with guys who wipe their a**es with hundreds trying to help out a fighter who’s doing all he can to stay a float.

What does ua mean? Can “you” stop trying to butcher the English language please? But I don’t feel bad for a man who made multi-millions and lost it all like Tyson did. To keep the success you achieve in life you need a financial advisor, simple as that. If he doesn’t sell his possessions he will lose them to the banks anyway. It’s nobody’s fault but his own.

If you look at pro athletes that have stayed wealthy after thier career you will find that most live in a REALLY nice home that is paid for, not 30 million dollar mansions. They have budgets they stick to. Mike Tyson lives a very good life and is out of the mansion. He is still marketable and that saved him from being broke. He lives very well within his means and is thanking his lucky stars. Ron “Louisiana Lightning” Guidry lives 5 minutes from my modest home in a very big, nice home on a bunch of land. He made a lot of money and still has it because he never lived in a mansion driving 10 rolls royce vehicles. The cost of living in my area is low, if he stayed in NY he wouldnt have been able to buy a small home with a patch of grass for what he paid here. Holyfield made very bad decisions and had ample time to have learned his lesson before this point but kept spending. In 15 years will Mayweather still be burning 100 dollar bills living in that house with all those vehicles? Noway. He is another Holyfield in the making……..he may be getting koed by bums trying to pay child support or be sitting in jail.

This is so sad to hear that his economic crise have turned to this. I mean he is forced to sell his whole career achivments and its just so sad to hear. I mean if I had been in the great Holyfields shoes, I would rather die than to with free will give up my recognised world championship titles and medals I had worked my ass for in what could be seen in entire life! I mean that is just wrong for a man to buy some other champs belt and medals becouse those are VERY personal and can’t be in any mans hands. In my view only a rare worthy man could be worthy to have any of those precius belts and medals or for the matter boxing equipments. I wish it will go well for Evander Holyfield. A true boxing hero should not end up like this. I know he did it all by himself but still I dont go for this when it comes to a nice man and a legendary Hall of Fame fighter like Evander Holyfield. I guess the only thing he can do is to get on some very easy boxing fights that he for sure can win and make some last moneys in the ring before he is far to old to even make that and yeah I know he is old but what else can he get those moneys from to fix this. Get a fight against old veterans like Oliver McCall, Andrew Golota, Shannon Briggs or a bunch of low ranked journyman fighters. Holyfield can sell tickets in those levels.

This is the time for the giants of boxing (Golden Boy & Top Rank) to do some saving, it would be a great thing if they can help raise money (or donate) to help Holyfield in his time of need. If I didn’t have studen loans that are kicking my a**, I’d help.

Holyfield my man, don sell ua possesion, don put ua money in dirty business, always make simple business, and that is to have buildings and get rent from it.

Sad indeed. Holyfield is one of my top-10 favorite fighters of all-time. always a fierce and classy ring-warrior in the ring (never bought into whining about his “dirty” tactics). on the other hand, i would Love to own “Upset of the Year” memorabilia and anything associated with his bouts v. Dwight Braxton Muhammad Qawi bouts. i may have to do my part to support the Champ by checking out any of these items.
