Manny Steward, you made boxing better by being the best coach to fellow boxers.

I’ll be honest with everyone on this comment board, when I was listening back to the interview notated within this article, I found myself almost in a state of denial. Emanuel told me these words on August 24th…and just two short months later, he is no longer with us.

I still can’t believe that he’s gone. The great thing about Emanuel is that he always made time for everyone who showed interest in getting to know the boxing legend. He treated strangers like royalty, and always had so much energy…even when he wasn’t feeling well. The man was a machine and was boxing through and through.

I already miss him terribly.

Posted October 26, 2012 12:17 pm

Some of you guys are like 10 year olds praying for Hopkins, Haye or other fighters you don’t like to die in place of Steward…. To say that is pathetic is being kind…. Newsflash life does not work that way and articulating such wishes in the wake of a GREAT man’s death (Steward) does not elevate or memorialize him it… Instead it debases his memory as a man who LOVED boxing and respected fighters to the utmost… We all play rough on here but its pretty universal that Stewards loss was a blow to the sport, a moment of class won’t kill any of us….

Posted October 26, 2012 10:48 am

Mr. Steward was a great trainer but was a better man. I have been watching the fight game for over 50 yrs. fighters and trainers come and go but only a very few will be remembered. Emanuel Steward, Freddie Roach they will not be forgotten but remembered not just the training of great fighters. But the way they lived there lives and the way they treated other people. The way we all should treat others may God Bless, and rest in peace Mr. Steward

Why couldnt god take a A hole like Bernard Hopkin’s. They guy shuns you off if you try to talk to him or get a autograph. I met Emanuel and he would stop smile and talk to you like a long time friend. RIP good buddy your with the angels

It is very sad news. Emanuel Steward was one of the greatest boxing coaches ever. Being a Pole, I am ashamed of Wach’s coach disgraceful behaviour.

With deepest sympathy to E.S. Family.

Totally agree – Manny is gone and trash like Haye roams the earth a rich man. SMH.

Posted October 26, 2012 12:55 am

Why couldnt a scumbag like Bernard Hopkins or David Haye be taken instead. Manny was boxing. Manny was the best. He was real and honest.

Damn shocking news….RIP Emanuel

We need to trade the lives of Proud African and SREDMOND for Manny. Get them out of here and bring him back!

Posted October 25, 2012 10:13 pm

If I had the power I would trade my pathetic life so Manny can live. I couldn’t even be a pimple on Mannys butt. He achieved so much and even more important he was a terrific human being. Manny was true to the core. Boxing wont be the same !

Very little brings a tear to my eye, but Stewards loss certainly qualifies.. One of the Great old school boxing minds out there… Insightful, Classy and a true professional.. This shakes the boxing world to its core…RIP Manny…

This is BEYOND terrible. The sport I have grown to love, has lost another brick from its foundation.

Good Fight…Goodnight

Steward wasn’t from NY. No, that arena should not be named after him. Dumb idea. It’s an NBA arena.

Posted October 25, 2012 7:46 pm

RIP Manny – Plenaty of Champs as a trainer and 94 wins with only 3 losses as a fighter in the amateurs. The Barclays Center in Brooklyn should quickly change name to ‘The Manny Steward Arena”.

It’s not really possible to overstate the magnitude of this loss for boxing. Emanuel Steward’s knowledge and experience if nothing else will be sorely missed and leave a chasm in a sport that needs him more than ever before. R.I.P. Manny.

Posted October 25, 2012 6:57 pm

te tumbo

if it’s true, Steward’s loss is a blow to the credibility of Boxing. serious and experienced gentlemen like him could discuss and teach the sweet science to anybody willing to listen without any of the posturing or shilling that so many other “experts” and analysts are notorious for. he could be a little heartless in his fighter’s corner: “You’ve Gotta Go Out There and KNOCK’IM OUT! WTF have we been training For?!? You got no choice! You’re way behind and if you don’t show me something I’m gonna Stop this fight! Now go out there and KNOCK’IM OUT!” were typical words of encouragement(?) to a fighter who had fallen behind on the scorecards. outside the ring he was a credible and articulate trainer with a passion for teaching and discussing Boxing. RIP Emanuelle Steward.

It was always an absolutely pleasure to listen to these old school guys like Dundee, Petronelli, and Steward telling their tales and waxing lyrical about the sport. Today’s generation can’t hold a candle to the likes of them.

Guys, I’m trying to confirm if Emanuel is still with us. I’ve just read reports that Johnathon’s tweets and Klitschko’s statement might not be accurate. Let’s pray that this is a big mistake. I will let everyone know as soon as I can confirm something.

He was the very best…I can’t believe I will never be able to get his advice on anything ever again. Emanuel was the most generous person I’ve ever known.

He always told you the truth…whether you liked it or not. He was so wise and knew a lot about everything.

Also, most people don’t really know this, but he didn’t like being called “Manny”…he preferred to be called Emanuel.

I will miss you dearly, Emanuel!!
