DaTruth Hurts

Just wait until Cuban Lara Biatch Slaps Canelo around the Ring from post to post like Mayweather did to see all the excuses the resident Chihuahuas like Tumbo will make for why Lara was able to do that to Canelo… LOL it’ll be funny

DaTruth Hurts

Most if not all of the Sore Loser Rants on these Boards are not from Argentinians.. they’re from Sore Losing Chihuahuas like te tumbo, who prayed to their Santa Muerte Saint for Sergio to Beat the Puerto Rican Super Star Cotto… Because it drives them insane when a Puerto Rican gets such Attention and Accolades.. LOL fkers never change..

Guys are piling on Martinez like he could NEVER fight which is total BS, the guy was 51-2-2 his loss to Williams was SUPER close and we all know how he avenged that, one of his draws to Cintron was a WELL KNOWN referee era where Cintron took a 10 count claiming a butt when it was clearly a punch upon replay… During his reign he knocked out two guys who were undefeated Dzindurik and Barker (I believe) he shredded Pavlik, beat up Chavez Jr 11 rounds to 1, stopped Macklin and gutted out a tough win vs Murray.. All good things come to an end and at 39, Cotto CRUELLY showed him the door, just as Pac Man did Oscar… That said Maravilla was an action fighter who looked for the finish and will be missed..

Posted June 11, 2014 9:27 am

@Hecdog…I thought he lost against Murray personally. But yeah he looked old, had a pad on his knee. But Cotto is with Roach the joke coach now! So please don’t take any credit away from him for that performance. That’s all im sayin…have a nice day.

Posted June 11, 2014 1:17 am

In all honesty that fight was garbage. It wasn’t exactly Monzon v Valdez ,Hagler v Hearns , Toney v Nunn or even say Hopkins v Taylor . Worst pair of so called Middleweight champions I have seen .

Imagine a prime Jones ,Robinson or Hopkins against that. Erosion of Martinez or Cotto.

Boxing is in a bad way as far as quality fighters go.

Posted June 11, 2014 12:25 am

People that think Martinez is hype should explain Paul Williams and all the other big name, prime fighters that Martinez beat in the past! Clearly he was growing old (ringwise) since at least the Chavez jr fight. Martin Murray etc.. Martinez was an amazing and very talented champion! Hes not 4-5 years ago Martinez and actually.. far from. He’s still a champ because the respect of no excuses and taking the beating and getting back up. Hes a stand up guy and he aged quickly but he deserves respect and has beaten the best.

Posted June 10, 2014 6:54 pm

SLIM my friend, the illusion was that Sergio Martinez was still the Martinez of 4 years ago. He had nothing. He was old, lacked his timing, reflexes, he was an old man that was lost and thought that his long inactivity would only help him heal. martinez believed he could beat father Time, and he failed as they all do. Miguel Cotto now has a boost of confidence becaus he feels he beat a bigger, stronger in his prime Martinez, which is Cotto’s illusion. The truth is that Cotto needs to fight a few guys that don’t offer much so that his name can make him some well earned pay days. He needs to be careful because the majority of Welterweights, Jr. Middleweights and Middleweights will beat him. He cannot beat GGG, Canelo, Porter, Pacquiao, Mayweather, Chavez Jr (if he’s in shape) Thurman or the young guns in all divisions. Cotto best make some money against not so tough challenges because his reign could end in one fight if his ego feels he can beat any of those mentioned fighters. The media and Cotto fanatics are making way, way too much of this victory over a broken old war horse like Martinez.

Public Enemy

Funny thing is all the experts on here especially all the resident chihuahuass like tetumbo swore on Pancho Villas grave that Sergio Martinez was going to kill Cotto.. now that Cotto Killed sergio Martinez they all claim Sergio was an invalid.. LOL whata bunch of sore losers..

From a very neutral pov, liking both Martinez and cotto a lot, Martinez clearly was limited in movement and could not generate power. Cottos performance shouldn’t be reduced too much though. He took the fight when most of boxing world said mismatch. He came out firing on all cylinders, looked very controlled precise and aggressive, did what he had to do. Martinez epitome of losing with class and dignity well and truly intact. I wouldn’t be bad mouthing either of these guys.

Posted June 10, 2014 5:00 am

@Hecdog…After looking at Martinez face after the fight was stopped. I wouldn’t call it a illusion…lol

Posted June 10, 2014 4:17 am

Agitator and Knotty: Cotto brought his “A” game and did a fabulous piece of work; however do agree with you about Sergio’s knees and also agree that he was looking like 39% percent of himself. No comparison IMO to the Sergio before the injuries of knees. For him, he had no movements, no punching power, nor balance. Before the knee problems, he had all this 10 times over. Sergio needs to retire. He has done great fights before, so he will always be remembered as a true champion.

Posted June 10, 2014 1:18 am

Wow..haters HATE!!! Why is it that when Mayweather beats Canelo, Guerrero, Cotto, Mosley. Mayweather is the magician!! Defense wizard so on… But when Cotto or Paquiao beats the same type of guys it was because the fighter was past his prime, old, inexperienced.. You guys make me SICK!! Why Hate!! On Freddy Roach!! This guys has accomplished more in boxing that both of the Mayweathers’ trainers combined!! He has Parkinson’s disease for God sake!! He is the Phil Jackson of boxing. He has help more fighters than any other trainer win world championships. The Mayweathers’ besides Floyd what other fighter has accomplish anything with their guidance????!NONE!!

Freddy – Paquiao, Cotto, Khan, Julio Jr, on and on..

Posted June 9, 2014 9:37 pm

Miguel Cotto did what he had to do to beat Martinez. Martinez was obviously not the fighter he once was, and the inactivity, age and injuries only added to his decline. As far as Miguel Cotto is concerned, he put himself at the top again even though, IMO, he is not as good as he showed. I say this with all respect because he is a great fighter that has always taken on the best and has always been a class person, but the truth is he will have serious problems fighting fighters like Canelo, GGG, , Mayweather, Porter, Quillin and of course the legendary Manny Pacquiao. Cotto’s fight was a bit of an illusion. Was Cotto that good or was Martinez that bad? I think think it was both, but Martinez was only a shell of himself. Regardless, Cotto has now elevated himself as one of the top draws. His victory was a historic celebration for him inside what he calls his house (MSG). No one thought he could do it, but he did regardless of the circumstances. Where does Miguel Cotto go from here? He has plenty of choices, but we need to find out what his goal is. Does he want the big pay day against Floyd, Canelo GGG, Pacquiao or maybe he takes on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. This is of course if Chavez Jr. can starve himself for 3 months and make weight. Miguel Cotto has options, but it comes down to what he wants most. If he decides to take on a monster like GGG, he will get a lot more respect, but he will get destroyed. GGG is a monster. Maybe he gives Martinez a rematch to prove once and for all that his win wasn’t a fluke. My advice for the great Miguel Cotto is to stay away from Pacquiao, GGG, Canelo and Qullin and Floyd. The rest he has a chance to beat, but not these guys.

Posted June 9, 2014 5:27 pm

Yeah I really DON’T buy the idea that Freddy remade Cotto in 2 training camps Cotto has been boxing for over 20 years and he was a 3 weight Champ when Freddy got him, HARDLY starting at the bottom and Freddy is man enough to admit that himself…Besides lets see how Miguel performs going forward, if he gets KOed in his next fight will you still be discussing Roaches changing him? will Cotto dump Roach? we have seen him get rid of trainers before… Why not just enjoy the moment and stop leaping to crazy conclusions ie “Cotto is unbeatable now”

Posted June 9, 2014 4:44 pm

When did I say that Uncle Roger or Floyds dad were the best trainers? that’s nonsense they have NOT trained a ton of World Champs to my knowledge.. Silly comment below both their marquee fighter is Floyd other than that Chad Dawson? ODH for a period of time?

Posted June 9, 2014 4:41 pm

This sredmond is a bigger fool than i thought. He insinuates that the best trainer in the world is a toss up between FLOYD MAYWEATHER SNR and ROGER MAYWEATHER. He really is in a dilemma here as he would rather die than be forced to choose.

Posted June 9, 2014 4:31 pm

For the life of me, how can this mindreader Sredmond say with such conviction that Freddie Roach did not teach anything new to Cotto. Was he with them all the time? Every minute of every day?

Posted June 9, 2014 4:22 pm

Floyd is not gonna smoke nobody’s azz, but sredmond will surely suck floyds azz, thats for sure.

Posted June 9, 2014 4:08 pm

You mean the Floyd that is trembling with fear, upon the mention of the ghost of christmas past?

Posted June 9, 2014 4:03 pm

AGITATOR Wow! Sure smells like Cotto got your azz really AGITATED. Yessir, you got AGITATED HATER written all over your inept carcass. Take yur meds and git some rest, sounds like you haven’t slept since Martinez got smoked.

Cotto looked great. I thought Sergio was just caught cold. But 3 KDs is nearly impossible to comeback from on points. Then the rest of the fight went on with Sergio not land effectively. Didn’t move effectively. Cotto on the other hand pressed when he wanted & boxed effectively when Sergio wanted to press. Landed that hook at will. Impressive performance. I don’t get how guys with so much experience refuse to put up a guard vs. guys with fast hands. Paulie refused to raise even a one handed guard & got demolished. Now Martinez did the same & got demolished.

Posted June 9, 2014 1:41 pm

This is an excellent analysis of the fight. Well written too. Love it when people write about tactics and strategies in boxing than fanatic commentary. One more note, just to support the author of this article. Martinez spoke by telephone with his promoter Di bella and told him that his arms and knees were never an issue in the fight but the first left hook to head. He he stated that he was disease all night after that punch. Finito.

Posted June 9, 2014 1:30 pm

The Agitator

Keep telling yourself that Martinez wasn’t injured during the fight, eventually you’ll believe it…

The Martinez that fought Chavez compared to the one that fought Cotto is like comparing a Ferrari to a second hand Toyota…

Just the way Martinez moved inside of the ring is evidence in itself that his legs were messed up bad..

The guy could barely hold his legs beneath him..

A pityful sight indeed..

Arum just offer Floyd a offer to fight cotto, guess he still willing to work with floyd even without GBP .
That good news so that mean PAC on the table to with Floyd production that non functioning,
LOL that nice at Lease arum recognize Floyd effort of trying starting up his own boxing production company. He did give clouth even if Floyd it choice not to take it to other free contract fighters. As Floyd stuck he need a fighter or risk being sued by show time. 3 party contract.

Posted June 9, 2014 12:59 pm

Freddy, taught Manny how to use his right hand and worked with him for YEARS and 3 or 4 fights with Marquez and what happened? His performances against JMM declined 3rd bout NO KD’s and STRONG public sentiment that he was outboxed, 4th fight he was on the canvas round 3 for the first time and out COLD in the 6th… Again I like Freddy, he is good at talking up a fight and he is a good trainer but he did NOT make Cotto something different and his presence does not somehow mean that Mayweathers defeat of Cotto was not legit…

Posted June 9, 2014 12:35 pm

DaTruth, I simply don’t accept that and honestly don’t really CARE about why Cotto could not defeat Mayweather the results speak for themselves… You are basing your opinion of him as a “new fighter” on him defeating Delvin Rodriguez who was a patsy and Sergio where he fought a GREAT fight… That’s TWO fights, we have seen Cotto look good with Pedro Diaz for 2 fights and give Mayweather a quality effort where it was clearly a bout between 2 World Champions…. AGAIN you indirectly attest to Mayweathers superiority by even trying to sell the notion that a fighter with Cotto’s World Championship experience would need to remake himself in order to compete with Floyd Mayweather effectively… Those narratives are meant for DUMB casual fans of boxing so a guy can be resold as something new.. Same thing when a company is not performing they can the CEO and try to do a makeover…

Posted June 9, 2014 12:32 pm

It is hard to believe Cotto beat the Crap out of Sergio without a knee injury but as we have just found out from the horses mouth he did.. LOL

Posted June 9, 2014 12:18 pm

SREDMOND – Freddy didn’t teach anything knew but he did help Cotto find himself again. Helped him focus on what makes him special.. not like the Cuban Trainer who tried to make Cotto a Flashy Finess type pity pat fighter.. This Version of Cotto is not the version of Cotto that fought floyd thanks to terrible training strategy.. or the weight drained mentally down and out Cotto that fought Paquiao.. he still broke Paquiaos ear drum but he was not even 50% of himself..

Posted June 9, 2014 12:12 pm

The notion that “Cotto was not healthy or properly trained prior to this Saturday” is a JOKE… Cotto was a 3 weight Champion BEFORE Freddy Roach, Freddy did NOT teach Miguel how to fight he has worked with him for TWO of his 43 career contests and NONE of his amateur bouts…I am a HUGE Cotto fan, he is a boss but he is the SAME guy and his prior losses stand unavenged absent Margarito..Guys try to buy Wlad Klits a pass on his earlier career missteps because he was NOT with Manny Steward well Wlad was 45 bouts into his career getting capped 2x in 5 fights those results are VALID…Freddy trained Manny to the top of the sport AFTER Manny got stopped 2x early in his career, THEN he stood there helpless when Pac Man got his head taken off by a guy he had been fighting off an on for 10 years and was 39 years old… I am HAPPY for Cotto, but he is not a new man, nor does it invalidate his losses to Pac and Floyd if anything his resounding victory proves that FMJ and Manny defeated a truly premium fighter, HOFER and one of the best of this era…

This fight is why I love boxing! People make arguments (on this site) all the time about who is overhyped, who is ducking whom, who has fought debatable opposition. But then there is the fight – an empirical test in real time to see who can perform. To me, this outcome was a surprise – I like Martinez and his story. he was an incredible middleweight perfumer for several years – he fought some very tough, big guys. But Saturday, he was not nearly as good as Cotto. Where else do you get to assess the reality of your biases and expectations? Great sport!

Posted June 9, 2014 12:00 pm

Ok Here is Martinez pro record….you tell me where are the big names he fought that made him a favorite and that people saw that he was more skillful than a proven Cotto. Where are the names?…only 3…Williams, Pavlik and Chavez and we all know the last two belongs in a rehab facility…..

Posted June 9, 2014 11:52 am

Funny thing is I like Sergio, nice guy great story but in the 24/7 he was moaning and groaning about Cotto making demands and acting like a Diva.. his Biggest Gripe was claiming that Cotto wanted Sergio to enter first even though Sergio was the Champ? but come fight night we saw Cotto come in first with no fan fair or music.. plain and simple entrance.. So what was Sergio Biatchin about over those two episodes? seems like in the End Sergio proved to be the High Maintenance Diva who got knockedafkout Cold.. Bad night for Sergio and his Trainer who was just as Cockeey…

Posted June 9, 2014 11:43 am

Sisco – get ready for Floyd to start making excuses as to why he cannot fight Cotto at 154lbs.. as Floyd looks for his next EZ 140lb’er… probably Mikey Garcia

Posted June 9, 2014 11:38 am

SREDMOND hagler was 33 but most say he was 35 when he lost to Leonard.

Posted June 9, 2014 11:38 am

Martinez Schooled a 180+lb Chavez Cheato Jr. if it weren’t for Sergio getting careless in the last round it would’ve been a total lopsided Shut out.. Martinez would’ve killed slow plodding Canelo who had a tough time with the D Rated Molina.. Mayweather looked terrible vs 140lb Maidana and

Posted June 9, 2014 11:36 am

Da Truth Floyd still beats Cotto. Talk to Manny about the weight draining issue.

Posted June 9, 2014 11:35 am

Now people are over rating Cotto and under rating Mayweather.

Posted June 9, 2014 11:34 am

Cottos no Middleweight, He could barely get up to 155lbs.. he’s going to go back to Super Welterweight and take care of business now that he is healthy and being properly trained.. We’ll see if Mayweather, Paquiao or Canelo will be eager to make a fight with a Healthy, Strong, properly trained Cotto who isn’t hobbled or weight drained..

Posted June 9, 2014 11:33 am

People get it thru your senses Martinez was an over rated champ!!! OVERREATED!! People talk about him as if he is Hall of fame candidate….he is not,not even close. Here is why…who has he fought??there are only 2 fights in his resume that we can say with certainty that he fought great opposition.
Williams….a true champ that Martinez deserves all the credit for defeating. Pavlik….even this might be questionable because Pavlik was a hyped, indisciplined fighter who was slow as malasses, but was able to punch like a mule. The truth is that he had little boxing skills, was an alcoholic and never truly a student of the game. Chavez we know has an inflated record, that is smaller only to his ego. He is another undisciplined boxer who likes to party hard, smoke weed all day long, drunk and drive, and hates training. Martinez lost to Margarito….while he, Martinez was young. Who else has he beating who is/a real contender? PPV worthy, household name recognizable opposition. Who?? You see he was over rated and he got exposed. His knees had nothing to do with the beating he took, nothing. What he lacked was true skills….he got exposed. Luckily for him he was able to made decent money and was gracious on defeat. He knows what’s up.

Posted June 9, 2014 11:30 am

SREDMOND- Agree about how Martinez reacted to the punches. It seemed as if, in his mind, he felt so superior to Cotto, he really did not know how to handle the fact Cotto could actually hurt him, let alone punch him at will and outbox him. That hook of Cotto was also tailor made for a guy that pulls back like Martinez does. He couldn’t miss him if he tried. You know, Mayweather can loose some speed and still be great because his base and ring smarts are just so good he still overcomes. Martinez just has no technique to fall back on.

Posted June 9, 2014 11:29 am

Is all this praise Cotto receives for beating a completely shot and cripple Matinez just SARCASM?

Please tell me it is.

Posted June 9, 2014 11:18 am

Sergio is DONE, his reaction to punches was more unnerving than his stability issues… He looked stunned the first few times Cotto caught him solid, not sure if that was ring rust, Cotto hitting too hard or what but he did not take the shots well and was flopping like a fish 3x in the first round… For me the last round he fought was the worst, Cotto was totally outboxing him and tagging him over the jab, the complete destruction that Cotto authored in defiance of my and expert expectations demands he be given a lot of credit for the victory… Martinez is done as an elite fighter IMO being 39 and after being made to quit on his stool, this had shades of Pacquiao vs ODH…

Exiled Yank

Man, sounds like I missed another excellent fight. PPV is killing me! Congrats to Cotto! He just keeps defying the odds.

Posted June 9, 2014 11:02 am

Jim Rich

Its pretty obvious martinez was over the hil physically here. Anyway you can say martinez was in the same shape as years ago isn’t the case and martinez won’t make excuses because he has pride and respect for the sport and cotto. Cotto has something left in the take so he can take on GGG at his own risk, he is fought a long time he doesn’t have anything left to prove. Hard to let go of the fame and fortune is really all that is keeping cotto going I think also people around him keep pushing him into fights. People weren’t meant to be beat in the head and cotto has had some wars he doesnt’ need another, wouldn’t be good for him.

Posted June 9, 2014 10:58 am

I feel bad for Sergio and agree with agitator. He has bad wheels and in boxing if you have any leg issues its a wrap. He couldn’t move defensively and couldn’t plant to get off good shots. No disrespect to Cotto but a prime Martinez would have beaten him senseless.

Posted June 9, 2014 10:49 am

Like some have mentioned on this thread I have to really respect Sergio for taking his loss like a MAN and accepting that whatever he brought to to the ring that night was insufficient to hang with Cotto… I am SOOOOO tired of F*G posters making excuses for fighters about “who is training them” “distractions” “making weight” ect these are EXCUSES… Floyd fights Cotto “Cotto was too old” Floyd fights Canelo “Canelo is too young” reality is that Floyd has NOW defeated the lineal MW and Lineal Jr MW Champions and the excuses need to STOP… Freddy did NOT make Cotto a better fighter in 2 training camps, Cotto knew how to fight BEFORE Roach fact is that he had Sergios number and he took it to him, put Miguel in the ring with Mayweather he’s gonna go back to school as Great a fighter as he is… I also don’t think Cotto would fare well as a career MW fighter he is TOO small, beating Martinez does not mean he is ready to campaign at the weight anymore than it meant Sugar Ray Leonard was gonna be a killer MW after outpointing Hagler who was only 32 when Ray beat him…

Posted June 9, 2014 10:38 am

vet vic

It was absolutely impressive! Not only Cottos display, also Martinez heart and determination.

Posted June 9, 2014 10:37 am

Tinker bell

Cotto has more mileage than Martinez. That’s funny considering Martinez’ previous sporting profession.

Posted June 9, 2014 9:58 am

Incredible……… Just plain and simple!!!! Before the fight martinez fans said there was no way cotto could win. 90% said he was going to get ko’d by martinez badley! No matter if the knee raised questions he simply was to good, to powerfull, to big, to fast, to explosive thn cotto and simply the best boxer……. Now that cotto simply destroyed him, martinez was old, hurt, and blah, blah, blah….. Haters, the equation is simple, there are four clases of boxers: c,b,a and elite. Martinez is in category A. A well all around fighter with sporadic glimse of greatness and close of becoming an elite fighters. In that same category you put Canelo, Bradly, khan, and others. When you talk about Floyd, Pacquiao, Cotto, JMV, these are proven boxers that stand above and aside the competition because of their talent, experience and their ring IQ…. With all do respect to GGG, his is a great fighter, definitelly a devastating puncher and a solid 160 threat. But all hype apart, who has he fought worthy of comparing it to Cotto? With the technique, IQ, experience, accuracy, so,so,so! Please don’t get me wrong, I truly beleive that a fight with GGG is a dangerous fight but from that to saying he will demolish Cotto is absurd! I beleive that cotto would win that fight by a close 12 rd decision!!!
Please accept that Maravilla was simply out class by an elite fighter and stop giving excuses, excuses that even martinez is not using…….

Posted June 9, 2014 9:55 am

Now people are talking about Cotto and when asked of floyd they say, “Floyd who?”

Posted June 9, 2014 9:34 am

What some conveniently overlook is the fact Cotto is no spring chicken and is not in his prime. Some conveniently forget Cotto has more mileage in comparison to Sergio. Further, Cotto was the underdog, was considered damaged goods, supposedly had no chance and was not the betting favorite. But now and only now, trolls come up with anything as a rationale for Cotto winning, a rationale that did not exist before he won. This is by far the best Cotto I’ve ever seen period!! There is no question Cotto won with experience, training and the will to win. You see, Cotto doesn’t fight opponents like Ortiz, Guerrero, Baldomir, etc. Cotto doesn’t make demands to leave your promoter or lose sleep over inconsequential things like testing. He’s a top notch fighter who battered the MW king, while Floyd gets battered by a LW. See the difference? Cotto just made thunder, Floyd, he lost his.

Posted June 9, 2014 9:29 am

It amazes me how ppl make excuses for the fighter they favor. Martinez has been making excuses for poor performances and this time there is no excuse. He was dropped 3 times in the first round, so he knee wasn’t bothering him then because it was too early in the bout. Fact is that he’s always held his fight hand too low, and Cotto made him pay for it over and over. He was not the fighter the media made him out to be, and he got all his hype from his one punch KO over PW after first losing to him. Not to mention, when he was young and in his prime physically, he was stopped by Margarito, which many didn’t even know about or forgot about. No excuses, the man was bested this weekend. Congrats to Cotto for a great win.

Posted June 9, 2014 9:17 am

The Cotto haters are back full force!!!! U guys are too much! Before the fight Martinez was going to kill Cotto, now u claim he has been shoot your years. Before the fight Martinez was a better technician than Cotto, now he only fought bums. Before the fight because of his size Martinez was going to slap Cotto silly an KO him, now Cotto must be consuming something illegal. I can go on an on….haters!!! The truth is that Cotto humiliated Martinez and gave him a BOXING LESSON the lights he has never seen!!!!! Now it’s about GGG destroying Cotto. Of course he would but only because he is way….way….younger And a natural MW not because he has more skills!! At 140 or 147 a prime Cotto would have defeated GGG. By the way I’m not convince by GGG he has yet to prove himselve as his opposition has been garbage. Yes he is talented and his amateur record is impressive but he is going to have to start amassing wins against the top of the MW or even go higher in weight in search of real opponents before I get into his bandwagon. My point it was Cottos night and he came thru, against all odds, stop hating.

Posted June 9, 2014 9:17 am

Ez E- wassup my man! Agree, Sergio has been very valiant in defeat. Everybody here is knocking Cotto for fighting an “old man” but the reality is that Miguel was a pretty solid underdog coming in and even the majority of the sold out crowd at the Garden was expecting to leave the arena with our heads low, but we went to give the man the support he has earned. I always thought the one to move back in this fight would lose, and obviously so did Roach, who had Cotto jump Sergio from the get go. Martinez had absolutely no confidence after that, and Cotto showed what we all new: he’s a much better technical fighter than Sergio will ever be. I guess either way everyone was going to have an excuse here, if Cotto had lost as expected, we would be saying he was just too big…

Posted June 9, 2014 9:06 am

This came in on another boxing news source.

Sergio Martinez Update:
According to Team Maravilla’s Nathan Lewkowicz, former WBC middleweight world champion Sergio Martinez had no hand or knee issues in Saturday night’s fight against Miguel Cotto. “He felt dizzy after the shot to the head in round one and didn’t recover. The only injury was a broken nose.”

As for what comes next, on Sunday Martinez tweeted: “And now comes a period where I will rest and will reflect with my own about what lies ahead. Thank you and now more than ever HLVS [until victory, always]!”

Posted June 9, 2014 8:09 am

I must give PROPS TO SERGIO MARTINEZ!! It seems like every time a fighter loses he comes up with excuses. Even if they win but don’t impress they say “I hurt my hand in the second round” “the head butt in the 3rd round had me seeing double” “I fought with the flu” “I was injured but didn’t want postpone the fight for the fans” “I severely twisted my ankle and could get enough roadwork in” “My shoulder this, my elbow that, my back whatever…….” We’ve heard them all. PROPS TO MARTINEZ because he REFUSED to make excuses. Even when the PESTY Max Kellerman kept trying to induce him onto it, actually making excuses up for him, Sergio remained steadfast and accepted his defeat with valor and honor, like the fighters of yore. PROPS TO SERGIO MARTINEZ!! Peace to all!

Martinez …has always being a great warrior…vut unfortunately. age catched up with him ….. I felt sorry at the postfight interview. ..when sergio was apologizing. to his fans for not. wining that fight……Sergio you have nothing to b sorry for…you have given boxing fans a lot of good moments on all your fights..never scared of no one….you were always a warrior and …you lost your. crown one ..fighting to the end ..and. U lost it to another great warriior on cotto. .

Back in the day if a boxer couldn’t get meaningful fights at his weight he’d step up a division or three. If GGG cannot get a meaningful fight then why can he not do like new British Cruiserweight Champion Ovill McKenzie did this weekend and step up a division and take out the best names he can get there, rather than waste his times and skills on crappy fights for chump change?
I’m sure he can give weight away and take on the Super Middles and Light Heavies to get himself in the mix there.
GGG would make far more money chasing Ward and Froch, and Hopkins, Stevenson and Kovalev then he would Qillin.
Superman Stevenson stepped up from 168 to 175 and is now in night money fights.
Why can’t GGG be reigning Middleweight and reigning SMW or Light Heavyweight champion?
Mayweather holds both Welterweight and Jnr Middleweight titles.
Seriously, back in the days the great Hammerin’ Hank terrorised the Featherweight, Lightweight and Welterweight divisions reigning as champ in all three at one stage.
MCKenzie is a light Heavyweight Upsetter, but no one would fight him so he stepped of and KOd the man there and is now looking at world honours at either 175 or Cruiser.
Stevenson couldn’t get a shot so stepped up and rolled the dice.
Time for GGG to forget the Middles and step up and terrorise the men at 168 and 175.

Tinker bell, standing eight counts are not unheard of but you are right they are frowned upon, however they are not “illegal”. It seemed to me the ref tried to help Martinez hang on a little longer and instead of giving a count, he could have waved it off. The corner did it anyway.
Agitator, Cotto’s progress is obvious but no one said he became the greatest middleweight. GGG could easily swipe all titles all the way up to Kovalev (Ward is currently inactive), if it wasn’t for Kovalev GGG could even jeopardize the cruiser weights.

Hi Ivan
By my reckoning the ref made 1, superfluous error. The 4th KD was not actually one.
I really enjoyed the fight. The first round had me in shock. I couldn’t believe my eyes.

The Agitator

What a crappy article..Cotto fought a 39 yr old cripple, who hid his injury from the public, even going as far as wearing Shaquille O’Neal shorts to hide his braces..All in order to get one last payday…Roach has a knack for matching his fighters with over the hill or handicapped opponents…Nothing to be proud of here…If Cotto wants to prove he belongs at MW, he shud fight GGG next…hes gonna be obliterated…
