Two Piece

Not a bad tune up fight after a long lay off. Pacman has cherrypicked a guy coming of a loss in his last fight and selling that to the public on PPV, think about that for a gimmick at a good price.

Posted November 19, 2013 9:19 am

I laugh of how they give Ward credit for winning a slug like Rodriguez.

Posted November 19, 2013 12:50 am

The Ward fight was a messy. Ward should be doing it better, faster and ending fights with sweet KOes, not this MMA wanna be tatics.

Posted November 19, 2013 12:47 am

Ward beat a fighter with a good chin but no basic knowledge of good boxing , no technique, just a lot of street fighting instinct. Ward is very good but let’s not get too carried away with his win over a fighter lacking boxing skills. Rodrpgues is no Frock or a Kovalev.

Posted November 17, 2013 9:49 pm

Na, I watched the fight and enjoyed the skill that Ward brought in beating Froch with 1 hand.

Too bad for Froch he fell asleep then. Caused him the Championship and a boxing lesson by a 1 armed fighter. That’s got to be embarrassing

“Ward has cleaned out 168 pound division and there are no more interesting or challenging fights to be had there. So, time for him to move up to 175, I think. He needs to fight Kovalev or Stevenson.” – Cosign. Ward won an Olympic gold at 175 a decade ago so it’ll buoy his status historically if he can clean out 175. That’s a big if though. Unlike 168 there’s plenty of good fights.

Guys like Stevenson, Kovalev and Golovkin are gonna get embarrassed in the ring with Ward… He’s a true boxing savant, he’s tough as hell, well conditioned and he’s super skilled… When these sluggers try their usual tactics he’s not gonna be there to hit clean but the return fire is murder… His hands, angles and sneaky hard shots re too much for guys like that who’s #1 dimensions are power… This is Wards time and a fully healthy version of him looks unbeatable…

Posted November 17, 2013 7:49 am

I do wanna see Ward destroy Froch for the final time, the venue is at Wards discretion, Carl Froch is a DEFEATED opponent who booked a loss to a guy that Ward whipped… Froch still had to fight hard to beat Kessler the second time…168 is Andre Wards division, not a single expert who cares for his reputation is gonna place Froch over Ward… That said its Wards call as to where he wants to fight, if not he (Froch) can continue to trash talk from across the pond while REAL boxing fans laugh at video of him getting schooled in Atlantic City years ago…If Froch wants a chance to reclaim his soul from Ward he can do as he’s told…I remember him “mulling retirement” after his loss..beating Bute has him confused again..

Fight Aficianado, you used to watch bouts and give some reasoned comments “saying Ward should have taken Rodriguez out” in a manner that suggests he was not trying to is simply ignoring the action because you don’t like the fighter.. He was hitting Rodriguez with everything but the Kitchen sink and the guy had a solid chin… Do you REALLY wanna bill that as a “cautious bout” GTFOH Rodriguez is a guy leaning towards LHW and he was a World Ranked Undefeated Contender, so he as terribly outclassed yet survived….Ward was the aggressor for long stretches while Edwin ate leather, if Wards “risk adverse” then how did. He stop 2 of the 3 beat he faced and bang up, defeat and outclass Froch with one hand??? Ward was active and pressing the whole night that’s why Rodriguez left the ring without a PEEP he was dominated and whine the next level of boxing…

NOT SURPRISED…. WATCHED LA BOMBA beat up human pacifist punchbag JAMES McGIRT JR. and could not understand why anyone considered him a master boxer in any shape, way or form.

He has a good engine, throws lots of shots and is determined. But, to consider him a boxer is a complete misnomer.

He throws wide, arcing, looping shots, has a rudimentary defence and is not particularly quick around a ring.

I think TARK thought a guy like KESSLER was beneath LA BOMBA’S standards, but I have to totally disagree and put my thoughts to another thread on here and wrote IMHO KESSLER stops Rodriguez…

Posted November 17, 2013 7:23 am

Yep. The winner of Kov v Stevenson against Ward would be an excellent match up. Before then it wud be good to see SOG beat Froch again.

Posted November 17, 2013 7:05 am

Kovalev will KO Stevenson, and be avoided like hell by Hopkins (who will NEVER take that fight: mark my words). THEN, at least, Ward needs to face him. As for Golovkin, I wouldn’t give him much of a chance against Froch at 168, never mind Ward. He’s too small for that division.

Posted November 17, 2013 6:46 am

Kovalev fight will be good and competitive, it’s not a given. Kovalev has yet to beat a top boxer let him do that.

Posted November 17, 2013 6:41 am

Ward has cleaned out 168 pound division and there are no more interesting or challenging fights to be had there (except maybe a rematch with Froch in Nottingham, which he won’t take). So, time for him to move up to 175, I think. He needs to fight Kovalev or Stevenson. In my opinion, the only fighter who has a serious chance of beating Ward is Kovalev. For that reason, I expect Ward to avoid him for as long as he possibly can. Sadly, in boxing, this is what invariably happens. But if he doesn’t take on either of these two, or Golovkin, or at least Froch in Nottingham, it’s hard to imagine fans having showing much interest in any further fights from Mr Ward.

Everyone knew Ward would win a near shutout UD over the raw Rodriguez. Fact is if you can win every round you should put the guy out of his misery. But that takes a risk and Andre is risk averse by nature. So another win and no fireworks.

Ward already proved himself as the man to beat at 168. Ward doesn’t have to go anywhere to prove anything. He’s the King at 168, and any would be conqueror has to come to his kingdom.

Posted November 17, 2013 2:21 am

These guys whining and crying about venues are just BITTER losers who cannot accept the consistent dominance of Andre Ward, ever since he waxed Kessler and Froch they have been selling that LAME excuse… Ward has 27 fights (not a lot) why the hell would and Olympic Gold Medalist and a guy seeking a US fan base go globetrotting to go bash some guys he already defeated when he had barely any experience… Fighters come to the US when they want to get “HUGE” Ward would have had his 6th successful defense had Rodriguez not missed weight… I have never seen such a WEAK explanation for a boxers success ie “he fights in the US” Kessler caught him when he was “Green”
And Ward still worked him over…. The fights were NOT close and the gap in skills is painfully apparent… This is Wards time and like Mayweather his excellence is pissing off some… The Hallmark of Greatness

Edwin was a heavy bag on scotches, paid and made to make Andre look good after the 4th.

Edwin earned his flight, comp and photo op but none of us are under the illusion that this wasn’t nothting more than an exhibition

Boxtra, I know you like the wind-up and respect your wallet, but Ward is such an overrated bender right!

Ward is the American Vitali Klitschko at 168lbs.

Here’s the standard for Andre “sick-note” Ward.

Gods-Scrotum will always live off the back of a British win, having NEVER rowed his boat ashore, NEVER thrown his net off the other side, he will NEVER Kumbay ….

Ward is the Americans version of Amir Khan, Harrison and DeGale ..

How about this SOG

Once again Ward proves his boxing mastery, and the haters will find new excuses to discredit him. People say Floyd is ducking GGG; I say GGG is ducking Ward. How about that.

Posted November 17, 2013 1:35 am

When people that hate ward talks about an 168 lbs fighter being weight drained that is comical. The guy fights at 168 not 175 he came in heavy no weight draining here, maybe he should have trained a bit harder. I always thought coming in over weight and not trying to lose it was an advantage. At least that’s what everyone said when Floyd did it versus Marquez

You’re right, guys. I lost my cool there for a second. I give Ward credit. He’s good and a consumate professional. And being a longtime boxing fan I guess I just expect certain things from good fighters. It just doesn’t sit well with me that he turned down the Bute fight, the oppty to fight Froch in the UK or anyone else outside of hometown advantage. In my mind, champions don’t behave this way. Ward could win me over, but I’d like to see him earn that top P4P spot, not inherit when Mayweather’s gone. Right now Ward is closer to the #3, 4 and 4 P4P than he is closer to Floyd.

In this day and age no fighter is above PED scrutinization. Sure if they pass their fight night test, they haven’t been caught, but until better testing is regulated none of will really no weather any fighter out there is clean, including those asking for random testing. After all we already saw Peterson ask for random testing then fail the testing.. Rodriguez has Conte, who was previously on Wards team. If he was asking Ward for random test, I have to ask, whys that? Maybe it’s because Conte knows how to beat the tests, and he doesn’t think Wards current team is as good at it as himself….

Posted November 17, 2013 1:12 am

Anyone discussing “dirty fighting” in this bout and not referencing Rodriguez at all is simply NOT credible and their opinions are struck for the record… Edwin, was WILD, and Grappling lik crazy… No matter Ward bested him at his own game and when the ref dialed down the headlocks Rodriguez was eating HARD shots all night… This pattern of WHINING after every boxer Ward demolishes has become tedious and only makes the seller of this garbage the butt of jokes and the object of my pity…. SOG 27-0 #2 on Planet Earth

Posted November 17, 2013 1:02 am

Anything to make Ward the bad guy, until Ward is caught he’s clean. Why did Rodriguez wait until after the negotiation to ask for drug testing? This is one of the weakest arguments ever. I grow tired of witch on Ward because he defeated Froch, first Ward won’t leave his home town to fight then when he leaves his home town. Then it’s he won’t leave the US to fight, oh yeah he’s a dirty fighter now he’s on roids. What’s next he’s an alien like B-hop.

Posted November 17, 2013 1:01 am

Why wouldn’t Ward get credit? Rodriguez was the Top Challenger in the division and Ward faced him coming off surgery there was NO ONE left at 168… He hand the kid his first “L” and dominated him to boot..Are we gonna penalize a fighter for TRULY cleaning out his division? That’s just SOUR grapes, of course Wards gonna be a favorite he’s #2 P4P in the World..

Posted November 17, 2013 1:00 am

I don’t give alot of credit for beating Bigger men but alot of AMATEURS DO. I give him Ward credit because not only was Rodriguez Bigger but he was also BETTER than anyone that Ward had beaten according to TARK. SO that makes the WIN more impressive.

Posted November 17, 2013 12:59 am

Prof Konje

Big Al, Jealousy is very unattractive. Ward beat Rodriguez easily, and if Rodriguez had the decency to come in at 167 rather than 180, he would have been knocked out by some of those punches. Hopkins, Mayweather and Ward are all winners. Just face the facts.

Posted November 17, 2013 12:57 am

Jason K,

Sorry dude both fighter had their moment of dirty fighting, you must be from the UK and hate American fighters. The ref was bias, there were a bunch of times when ward was pushing down on Rodriguez’s head when he should have been warn. A hard fight to watch I though for the second time Wards fight was a lot more exciting.

Posted November 17, 2013 12:54 am

Ward wont taste a defeat in his career, hes simply leagues ahead of anyone for boxing IQ. Shame Joe Calzaghe is not around, hes the type of boxer who could challenge Ward. Wards O will never go.

Posted November 17, 2013 12:54 am

Froch would lose MORE brutally and more lopsided… Wards getting more ill intentioned, he was going for the KO even though he was SOOOO far ahead, a slow, plodding Froch who showed SOG a lot of disrespect after his prior beating would take a pounding to say the least.. He’s NO match for Ward..

Posted November 17, 2013 12:52 am

Big Al

Boxtra… this outcome was expected and predictable the moment it was signed, and was all but etched in stone leading up to fightnight, especially with Rodriguez’ shenanigans and buffoonery. Do you really want to give Ward a lot of credit for this one? Think about it. Froch beating Bute and Kessler in the rematch were more meaningful. That’s why Froch gets under Ward’s skin so much.

Posted November 17, 2013 12:51 am

Wow, the people from the UK hates Ward because he beat their best. How could you call yourself a boxing fan when you watch a guy totally dominate a guy and can’t appreciate the work because he beat your favorite fighters. This to me was one of Wards best performances, it had much less of the mugging inside that he normally does. Just with how the UK fans respond to his wins, could someone explain to me why he would ever want to go the UK to fight.

Posted November 17, 2013 12:50 am

This was an awesome bout, Ward turned Rodriguez tactics on him and showed that a superior boxer with grit is gonna beat the slugger most times.. I lives how he discussed knowing that “Rodriguez was looking to hit the lottery” meanwhile Ward just picked him apart, beat him up and demoralized him…

Posted November 17, 2013 12:48 am

Jason K-A horrible WIN is BETTER than a horrible LOSS. Rodriguez agrees with ME on that.

Posted November 17, 2013 12:42 am

Ward forgot how to LOSE at 12 yrs old. What did anyone expect. AMATEURS SAID that Ward couldn’t beat UNBEATEN Fighters but they were INCORRECT on that. Rodriguez wasn’t beaten but he’s beaten NOW. That’s what happens when you face an Undefeated SHARK.

Posted November 17, 2013 12:40 am

Horrible fight to watch. Ward is so dirty. His holding is ridiculous but the amount of low lows, elbows, shoulders he throws is crazy. He ducks so low too and lunges in and grabs a hold all night.

Someone should put together a slow motion sequence of all his fouling so everyone can see all the amount of dirty stuff he does. He’s the dirtiest fighter in the sport IMO. Even worse than Hopkins.

And I don’t care what anyone says that referee is well dodgy. He was blatantly letting Ward get away with so much dirty stuff but on Rodriguez’s nuts all night, warning and physically pushing Rodriguez when it was plain to see Ward was the one fouling.

Ward continues to show that he is always two steps ahead mentally. By the time Edwin had the thought to punch, Ward already had his glove up to block or was already moving and countering. Incredible to watch.

Easy win for Ward, he was the ring general in the fight, and he would do the same thing to Froch again. He didn’t throw many rights, but it appears that his surgery went well. The only way this guy loses anytime soon is a with a very skilled bigger fighter. Other than that, Ward is not getting beat at 168 anytime soon..

Seriously impressive performance by Ward. His low blows were accurate. His hits behind the head were with precision. He landed a laser like lead head butt repeatably. Whenever he got touched, he would hold on for dear life. While holding, he would hit with the other hand. Afterwards he hypocritically tried to blame Rodriguez for fighting dirty. He lies and is dishonest. Seriously impressed by that performance. What a Christian role model he is to fair play in sport. How can you not like the guy? I also enjoyed the massive cheers from that crowd of 20-30.
