Posted November 14, 2013 7:27 am

Wtf does this fight have to do with any PR-Mexico rivalry?
There is no Puerto Rican and Rios was born in Texas.

That said, the only chance I see Rios having in this is if Pac has lost a few steps after the Marquez fight; but I wouldn’t count on that coz Pac actually looked good in that fight right up until he fell to sleep in the ring.
Rios really needs to get into Pac’s head between now and fight time and keep reminding him of the KO loss.

“Tiny PR” is nothing but a steppingstone with a “rivalry” angle that even Mexican journeymen can exploit to market their matchups, e.g., Margarito, Segura, Arce, Salido, Angulo, etc. who would even know who these guys are if it weren’t for the BeatDowns they’ve handed out to PR hype-jobs? “tiny PR” is simply a convenient place to take a highly-publicized dump for top dollar. why would Mexico want to topple that apple-cart? . . . “Ole! Very similiar to Nonito after two great perfomances vs Vic & Montiel, cherries : Narvaez, Mathebula, Vasquez jnr, Nishioka & and as soon as he faught a descend fighter ( Rigo ) he folded so his uncle gave him an old worn out Vic again to ” redeem ” himself, I expect the same for Pac, no way he puts him in with Mayweather but ut will be the usual inhouse gimmick vs sparring partner Provodnikov, cash in on his blatant bad decision vs Bradley then maybe Alvarado or an even older Marquez all the while promising ya’all the Mayweather fight which will never happen and even if it does will be like watching RJJ vs Hopkins when nobody cares.

Zera – Rios is a hyped up sacrificial lamb. Pacman has not faught a fighter without a handicap since Morales1, after that it has been nothing but cherrypicks ( Diaz), catchweights ( ODH, Cotto, Margo) , drug addicts (Hutton) , has beens ( Mosley) or fighters coming off losses ( Margo & Rios). FACTS!

Posted November 13, 2013 1:04 am

@public enemy

Marquez is not afraid of of Pac, i guarantee you that, and i bet He can repeat that punch to Pac, he always landed it the difference now is the power behind it, and i am not accusing Marquez of PEDS, it is safe to say for now (until proven guilty) that he trained scientifically under Heredia.

its just that, to him it was already fulfilling to knock Pac out, he already proved his point, so why fight the 5th? and personally, as entertaining as it is, the 5th is a bad matchup for Pac, he always have trouble with Marquez, (and yes people, with or without PEDS)

after knowing that there is a 4th fight between them i instantly told my Dad that this one is bad match for Pac.

Posted November 13, 2013 12:55 am

I can’t count Rios out… the guy is hungry, and has a granite chin…

being a Pac fan, well, i don’t know about this one, Manny likes those who are FACE FIRST (ok, i get the humor out of it) who ate punches for lunch, but like i said Rios is Durable, and Young!

Pac better be in 100%, after a devastating loss to Marquez (Yep, Face first too) i was wondering if his punch resistance is still there… not to mention the first knockdown of Pac in the Pac-Marquez 4, what’s with that punch anyway? is it because he never really saw that one? is it because Marquez proper training? (ok, enough with PEDS) or is it because Pacs punch resistance is not there anymore? well he was in wars, cmon, even haters would admit that he’s been in wars, wars that has taken its toll on him. even age, after all he is not getting any younger anymore…

nevertheless… i’ll make a bold prediction… Pac via UD
this is the safest that i can think of.

I think this fight is good for Packman as he will need to win big and show his dominance OR time to hang em up and move on to becoming president of the Philippines, I personally feel he should retire, he had a great run and for a while was up there with Mayweather but every time I watch his Knock Out, I see that he walks into the punch and had NO defense… reminds me of Gatti // Ward trilogy. I hope he does what is right and also he stays safe… He made his heritage proud and should be idolized by all fight fans for his warrior spirit and lack of fear .. HE was and IS A GREAT FIGHTER .. good luck champ … PEACE …

Cause in your eyes, he can’t lose and still hasn’t lost…even though you saw it with your own two eyes, him laying there sleeping and dreaming! Pacquiao has ZERO excuses as to why he was put to sleep, other than “it’s boxing, it happens, we have to accept that”….I don’t know why you’re reaching so hard for excuses. Let it go man, you’ll live a happier life.

Roach took this fight because he figured Alvarado out boxed Rios in their second fight and said if Alvarado can do that to Rios then Im sure Manny can as well. Rios will have to box a lot better than he has in the past. As for Manny I really believe he is washed up, and will see how he handles the heavier Rios.

Posted November 12, 2013 7:16 pm

Hidalgo my friend, good points. I’m curious what the response will be if any. Yes Ariza does know hi stuff, but he runs his mouth way too much. He’s a glory hound. If he was such a good friend of Manny’s he wouldn’t have gone to the enemy’s camp. He ha plenty of other offers he could have taken. It won’t matter in the end.

Posted November 12, 2013 7:00 pm

I’d really like to know, Tomato Can. I’m guessing it wasn’t in effect then because Freddie Roach would have known about it and thrown a fit for a KO not being called. But you never know–maybe everyone missed it.

Posted November 12, 2013 6:48 pm

Titopa- Margarito, Cotto, DLH also hit harder than Marquez. Unless Bam Bam can increase his speed dramatically, or Pac has lost his (or his chin), it’s not going to matter. Just too much speed.

Posted November 12, 2013 6:46 pm

I don’t believe the 3 knockdown rule was in affect for that fight. But it’s worth asking the question. At the time I was suprized it wasn’t stopped, but the ref obviously made the right choice.

Posted November 12, 2013 6:43 pm

BTW, Hecdog, I sent the WBA an email asking those exact same questions about four or five days ago. I am still awaiting their reply.

Posted November 12, 2013 6:39 pm

Also Hecdog, as you remember, Pacquiao knocked Marquez down three times in the first round of their first fight which was for a WBA Super World Featherweight title. Are you aware that presently, WBA rules state that when a fighter knocks his opponent down three times in one round it’s considered an automatic knockout?

I’m wondering if that rule was in effect for their first fight, or if it was waived by the boxers, or if Ref Cortez didn’t just bungle another job.

Interesting to think about.

That’s the beauty of boxing, a fighter can be losing a dog fight and land the perfect punch for the victory. Punches don’t get much better than the strait right landed by Marquez, that was a career defining, and career changing punch all in one.

Posted November 12, 2013 6:33 pm

BTW, did I just make a prediction for the outcome of this fight? LOL! I said I wouldn’t. Oh well, won’t do me much good to vacillate.

Posted November 12, 2013 6:32 pm

“he now goes after Ariza, which is a total waste. ”

Hecdog, Ariza is a loudmouthed pot-stirrer, but he knows his stuff when it comes to strength conditioning. I suspect he’s over-joyed to be training Bam-Bam because he’s looking to get back at Manny in any way he can. But as you already pointed out, I’m not so sure there’s anything anybody can do to help Rios beat Manny.

I also suspect Rios’ gameplan will be to attempt to walk through anything Pacquaio gives him in an attempt to land that one big punch which he hopes will put Manny down and out.

Posted November 12, 2013 6:31 pm

Manny Pacquiao vs Brandon Rios will be an exciting fight as long as it lasts. Once again, fighters are trying to use every angle to find a way to beat arguably the greatest fighter of all time. Rios first went with Hereida, but since that didn’t workout (Rios wanted to fight clean), he now goes after Ariza, which is a total waste. Desperation hits all these fighter when they know they will be fighting Manny Pacquiao. This will be a tough fight because Rios has power, fights to the end and is a warrior. He has a chance to take boxing over with a win. Unfortunately, Rios is fighting a living legend that has more speed, power, agility, athleticism and intelligence than he has. The world is waiting for Manny Pacquiao to make his return to the ring. PPV will be broken world wide. The boxing world will be focused on Manny Pacquiao’s every step from the time he enter the arena. No boxer has ever created the magical hysteria that Manny brings to an event. This is the Super Bowl, World Series and NBA championships all together for one night. Manny Pacquiao will put on display something never seen before. The right hook will land every time, and the straight left hand will stop Rios before round 9 or as quickly as round 1. The fluid in and out movement coupled with the head and foot feints will paralyze Rios from the start. The power is that of a bull dozer. Manny crushes bones as Margarito displayed. Manny’s foot work is matched by no one. Brandon Rios will be in trouble from the start. Boxing will be rejuvenated and the outlook on life will be a little brighter for everyone after Manny makes his triumphant return. Trust me, Manny will put on a show for all thoe people that laughed at him and wrote him off. Boxing will come alive one more time as Manny walk to the ring.

Posted November 12, 2013 6:18 pm

Fight Aficionado

Too much historical rehashing of the same stuff we’ve all discussed and too little discussion of Pac vs Rios. For example Rios has Pac’s former strength and conditioning trainer. He said expect Rios to have a six pack. That would be the first time. If Rios shows up in his best possible shape this could be a dog fight.

Posted November 12, 2013 5:55 pm

Marquez had some increased muscle size but also reduced fat on his body to become ripped and look larger. Marquez is still weighing in pretty light, and just because he knocked out Pacquiao doesn’t mean he’s using PED’s. Also, the fact that Pacquioa ran into the punch full on, just about anyone would have knocked him out with that punch. Some people have to create the illusion of wrong doing because their boxing hero was beaten.

Posted November 12, 2013 5:53 pm

Hecdog – Pacquia LITERALLY “ran” in to Marquez’s fist, if you can help me get in touch with Hereida I’d appreciate it….cause I need those roids that’ll make guys run into my fists. I”d never lose a fight again, I’d just have to hang my fist out and they’ll do all the work for me. Thanks!

Posted November 12, 2013 5:38 pm

You can’t claim someone was on PED when he passed all test unless you are ready to say Pac was also taking something since he declined drug testing. Difference between the 2 is that Marquez told Pac that he would be glad to take the test and then Pac once again declined.

Posted November 12, 2013 5:36 pm

Hecdog – LMAO! You make me laugh…Pacquiao was put to sleep. The. End.

Posted November 12, 2013 5:36 pm

Pacquiao’s chin was just recently shattered by a man (Marquez) who does NOT hit harder than Rios, it’s going to be interesting to see how Pacquiao’s chin responds to REAL power from a bigger fighter…yes, Rios is bigger, he naturally outweighs Pacquiao by 15-20lbs, he killed himself making 135 and had to move up to 140, as where Pacquiao has trouble maintaining 145lbs. I like Pacquiao, but I don’t think this was a smart “pick” for him, cause we all know Roach will NOT put him in a fight he thinks he’ll lose….that’s why they fought Marquez, they thought they couldn’t lose…boy, were they wrong!

Posted November 12, 2013 5:35 pm

Marquez should have called it a day after his last fight with Paquiao. he looked kind of shop worn in his last bout vs. Bradley , or maybe he just could not rise to that same level of motivation for Bradley?

Posted November 12, 2013 5:19 pm

Posted November 12, 2013 4:51 pm

Yes yes he busted his nose and he was bleeding. Didn’t he get knocked down 3 times in the first fight in one round? Pac couldn’t keep him down then, what in the world would make you think he could keep him down now?

Posted November 12, 2013 4:10 pm

Mannys defense is all offense which make him very open to a good counter puncher. I hope he finally does fight Floyd so these pac-tards can shut up once and for all But thanks to Arum he will keep derailing the bout.

Posted November 12, 2013 3:27 pm

Ped Man Marquez was on his way to being knocked out. Manny was starting to hit him, busted his nose and was eventually going to stop him. Manny is the better fighter by far. It’s just that Marquez after 4 fights found the only way to beat him which was to have Manny step on his foot, which was planned, a lucky punch, and the obvious added muscle from Ped use thanks to Angel Hereida. Manny actually won the 3 previous fights. I watched them all a few times without bias, and I am fully confident Manny won them all and was on his way to winning the 4th untill all the above things happened. After seeing Bradley beat up Ped Man Marquez, his career is over. I guess Hereida couldn’t quite come up with the right mix. he didn’t look nearly as muscular this time around. Hmmm. wonder why? And of course Marquez wanted no 5th fight even though he would make twice the amount of $ he was getting to fight Bradley. Serves him right after Manny gave him 4 shots. Manny Pacquiao will go down in history as the better fighter. The first fight without a doubt should have gone to Manny, no questions asked. Dropped three times, and dominated the last 5 rounds? Ridiculous that those blind judges made it close. Manny Pacquiao is the best, so let’s get ready to watch the legend dismantle Brandon Rios, the same guy Marquez avoided.

Posted November 12, 2013 2:22 pm

SOS from The Little Floyd minion. Pacquiao would beat Little Floyd, and Little Floyd knows it, hence, he will not fight him.

The truth about the Pacquiao fight (That everyone saw), was that Pacquiao was about to finish Marquez, when he ran into the lucky punch from Marquez.

If Pacquiao fought Marquez again, he would crush him.

It disgusted what De La hOya did to avoid Margarito. He fought Manny ata mini catch weight and De La Hoya was unable to gain any more weight because he had literally starved himself and his stomach would shrink to not allow him to gain ny more weight. On the day of the fight I believe De L Hoya weighed 143 where he would normally weigh about 165. Bad strategy by De La hOya which caused him to be embarrassed by Manny.

“This is gonna be a barnburner with two roided fighters with little defense. ”

Geezus, Happyboy, Pac’s and Rios’ “little defense” has certainly served them well over the course of their careers. Manny is an ATG eight-division titlist and Rios is a three-time titlist with only one loss in 33 fights.

As for your “roided” comment: Maybe you should inject some roids into your skull to break up that brick that’s lodged between your ears.

This is gonna be a barnburner with two roided fighters with little defense. Ultimately Pac will win by KO and Nob can fool the world again as he pretends to make the fight with Floyd while milking his cash cow for a few more fights vs Bradley ( as planned with the bad decision), then provodnikov, Cotto or Marquez. The fight with Mayweather will NEVER happen but that won’t stop from using his name to creare the buzz over roided Pacnap.

Looking forward to this one. Pacman is past is prime now for sure. But like Tyson in the last 15 years of his career, who was always struggling to rekindle the awesome 80’s version, it never happened, but he was still exciting to watch every time he stepped into a boxing ring.

The world awaits in anticipation of the most exciting fighter to ever enter the squared circle. Manny Pacquiao, the legendary only 8 time division boxing champion in history will make the most anticipated come back fight ever. Manny will not only be fighting for himself, but for his country, which recently went through a devastating disaster. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire country of the Philippines. Manny will be so charged up and electrified that Brandon Rios may be knocked out in the first round. Manny Pacquiao is considered by many as the best fighter of all time, and I cannot disagree. Brandon Rios is no slouch. This is a man that is hungry, determined and is very strong. Unfortunately for him, Manny Pacquiao dominates Rios in every aspect of boxing. I can’t recall a fighter with the speed and power that Manny Pacquiao possesses. During his destructive reign a few years ago, Manny devastated top elite fighters of this era. (Oscar, Barrera, Morales, Hatton, Diaz. Larios, Mosely etc). There was tenacity and ferociousness never before seen by boxing fans. Come Novemebr 22, 2013, you will get to see greatness and destruction come together at the hands of Manny Pacquiao.

te tumbo

Pacquiao* is already prone to divine guidance. i think the same faith will motivate and bolster him for his fight v. Rios, but it will be v. the biggest, strongest, and hungriest Rios ever. bolstered by the same training techniques that once sustained Pacqquiao* during his spectacular “win” streak. i’m also confident that Garcia is preparing Rios with the appropriate fight-plan and as long as that fight-plan features Rios landing his right hand it should be a winning fight-plan.

Gaz Boro

Pac man stretches this fool all day long, look at (compare)their previous opponents…..Laughable….Where is rios getting all this confidence from? PAC owes him a beat down as well for mocking Freddy Roache’s illness. Scumbag !!

i don’t pray for anything that happens bad or good, to anybody or any country. why should i? i don’t wish for bad things to happen but if they do, they do and that is it.

RK- I thought the same thing, but it could actually be the other way around, where this is a needed distraction for the country and Pac’s motivation is even bigger now. My prayers to them in this most difficult time and hopefully they have proceeds from the fight go to helping the Phillipines recover.

Country Whores Lead Me Home

No one really cares about this fight. Rios will KO Pacquiao easily. Pacquiao should’ve retired three years ago.

PAC loss will mean another JMM vs PAC rumble as the two warriors retire.

Tomato Can

The Chinese won’t let that happen.

Surely there must be odds that this’ll be postponed, given the state of things in the Phillipines.

The Pacman will get decommissioned… lol
I hope the torrent gets uploaded the next day…

Fight Aficionado

Interesting they’ve got 5 televised fights instead of the normal 3 or 4. They’re trying to tempt us but we probably won’t bite.
