I`d stop putting Chavez name with Froch.

Chavez simply doesn`t offer enough – power, workrate or speed to stop Froch getting on a roll early.

If someone as lazy as Jnr fights Froch he is going to be eating 20 punches every time he lands 1, and Froch is too heavy handed for that to be acceptable.

Look what a MW gatekeeper in Vera did to Chavez face. Froch would crack his skull open.

I think Mayweather is looking to close the show with a Cotto and Paquiao Rematch.. they would bring in the most money.. There’s really no other fighters out there that could drive up the PPV buys like those two.. Canelo has been exposed and Marquez will probably lose or get exposed for Steriods… Mexico really doesn’t have any top fighters at this time.. So it only leaves Cotto and Paquiao..

Cotto is still making noise like Marquez but we have to see how those guys do in their next few fights.. I believe Cotto is being lined up for a big Mayweather rematch providing he obliterates Delvin Rodriguez..

PE Well, I wouldn’t say exactly that because they put out some really good champions in the recent years, except that Suliaman’s greed, “over enthusiastic” national & PERSONAL favoritism has done plenty of harm to the image of great Mexican boxing heritage.

EZ E – Yes Mexico had great Champions but over the past decade or so they have just lost the ability to create truely great Champions, instead they’ve gone Hollywood and invest most of their time hyping up these PrimaDonnas like Canelo and Chavez Jr. who avoid all real top challengers looking for a life Changing Payday..

Posted October 3, 2013 10:23 am

FIGHT AFICIONADO “Rematch”?? ahhh.. Don’t count on it but who knows? WBC/Suliaman will make Chavez “champ” at ALL cost, even if he has to INSULT OUR SPORT AGAIN by ridiculously elevating Sakio Bika to a “Super/Emeriitus Champ” status and handpick a lame opponent for the vacant title. Vera is NOT a 168Lb’er BUT if they throw enough money at him… The MAIN reason Vera accepted to participate in the Chavez/Arum’s WEIGHT CIRCUS was because of $$$, no doubt. The only thing that Junior can prove in a rematch is that he can get in his best possible shape, melt down to 168LBs, re-hydrate to CRUISERWEIGHT 188LBs and beat a natural 160Lb MIDDLEWEIGHT!! When I think back at all the Mexican fighting heros I grew up admiring (like Saldivar, “Pajarito” Moreno, Jose Medel, Olivares, Manuel Ortiz, Efren “Alacran” Torres..) this makes me kind’a sick. Peace!!

Why is everyone so pissed. It was a close fight which Vera probably should have taken by split decision. Chaves sucks but he at least he has talent and potential. Vera just flat out sucks and definitely couldn’t beat anyone ranked in ring mags top 10. Only reason he came close here is because Jr is so remarkably lazy for a top tier prize fighter. Those judges should definitely be hung though.

Posted October 3, 2013 1:01 am

All three judges should be banned from boxing for life! Denkin makes me want to puke! Adair the same! Caiz appeared to also be on the take. This crap is destroying boxing. I expected to see a robbery and was correct. It so appears that the fix was in. Why bother to watch such fights? The damned criminal judges, Hell, I can’t say any more!

The decision should be over-turned, judges suspended for life. Rematch?! Vera won the fight and it was not even close! These criminal judges need to go……………same with so many other bad decisions, such as Pac/Bradley, etc. Those judges show disrespect for the fans. They really think that boxing fans are stupid! Protest that fight ASAP!

Posted October 3, 2013 12:34 am

I just want to know why Vera and Shields aren’t contesting the decision. They really should. They have nothing to lose.

Posted October 2, 2013 10:05 pm

Froch will destroy Chavez I could see a three round war but Froch is just too relentless and mean for Chavez and there is nothing that he could do to hurt Froch. Froch has never been accused of being a clean fighter and when Chavez stops to complain he will get beat up some more. Plus he would have to go across the pond to fight Froch and I don’t think that will ever happen. More likely we will see him fight Sakio Bika for the WBC title. I really don’t like his chances there either, he might be able to outbox Bika but talk about a big strong guy. Come to think of it I don’t think he would want anything to do with any of the super MW champs. Ward=for sure loss probably embarrassment, Froch=get beat up badly, Bika=a bigger guy that will beat him with pure will power.

Chavez Jr. has underperformed before (for which he was rewarded with tossed garbage) and came back to redeem that loss. a rusty Chavez Jr. underperforming at a contrived weight is hardly surprising. he needs to return and destroy Vera at 168lbs. IF he’s able to do that, for better or worse, the Chavez Jr. express is back on track! next stop: Nottingham to face “Dastardly” Froch. that would be a fitting end or revival of Chavez Jr’s. title hopes at 168lbs and then it’s back to knocking-up his fine lady with the next generation, phase II, of the Chavez boxing legacy.

ESPN is reporting Top Rank and Banner are already negotiating a rematch to happen before yearend in Texas. This bucks what Jr said in a story at ESB a couple days ago. If so it’s good news. Also remember two judges who fix fights are Gwen Adair and Marty Denkin, who had it a wide Chavez Jr win. Carla Caiz had the 96-94 card, which was also poor but at least debatable. People need to remember the names of scumbags.

PE -I never said Chavez Jr clearly won..I was just somewhat agreeing with the guy who said Vera won the fight but Chavez Jr won the event because according to HBO this fight was the most watched boxing match this year on cable they’re talking about possible rematch in December considering this should be a low risk good reward type fight for Chavezito if he can actually come well prepared if he indeed does have anything good left in him.

Real expert… must be Chavez jr, Junior is that you? It’s ok bro, don’t hide. Talk to us

Vera trained hard and fought to win, won and got nothing. These judges are crooks.

Brian Vera is right, It was a bad night for boxing! Hope Brian gets the rematch for sure and he has certainly won a lot of fans not only with his performance but with his class! Good luck Brian!

I don,t know why the judges saw a different fight?

Posted October 2, 2013 9:25 am

Jim Rich

And Vera needs to pick on someone his own size, a rematch would be good financially but if chavez jr actually prepares better for a rematch it will be very hard for vera to win. Chavez at best comes in at 168 in a rematch and will blow up to 190 on fight night, vera needs to let this one go and look for another big fight with someone else unless this is his only option.

I’m thinking we waited over a year to get this performance out of chavez jr, guy isn’t fully commited to the sport is like some hobby of his to get fame and money.

I haven’t seen the fight, and I don’t care to watch it. Chavez clearly won, and only the sore loser think he lost. They are using the media for their own cause. Bunch of loser why don’t you just shut up an accept the facts.

PE Let’s face it, Chavez Jr will continue to be PRIVILEGED, FAVORED & PAMPERED… for a few years more. We might a well get comfortable. He has Arum, Daddy, HBO, WBC/Suliaman and when Suliaman passes the torch he will have the SON OF SULIAMAN and…. so on. And his high percentage of viewing audiences will continue to RISE!! Why?? Because more & more fans/non-fans will be tuning in to see him get HIS BUTT WAXED!! He’s slowly becoming disliked. Even his fans ‘defecting’ by the thousands. He’s gotten away with GIVING dirty urine samples, NOT GIVING urine samples, drug issues, weigh-in issues.. AND if he kills a defenseless 80 year old Nun in broad daylight in the Mexico city Plaza he’ll get away with MURDER TOO!! Suliaman WILL bail him out & make him “champion” again, and the beat goes on…. Peace!

JoeKidd – Agreed. I’m fan of BOTH MMA & Boxing, but I’m WAY more of boxing fan….but you’re right, Boxing is doing itself a great disservice right now, the judging REEKS of corruption, as where MMA continuously gives their fans the best vs the best with ZERO controversy.

Posted October 1, 2013 6:50 pm

Jimmy – It’s only “boring” cause you don’t understand the art, people say the same thing about Floyd’s fighting style, but it’s cause they don’t understand the sweet science and nor do they appreciate. MMA is the same.

MMA is so utterly boring and trashy. Boxing rules over that garbage.

Posted October 1, 2013 6:41 pm

The Prince

Chavez Jr. career is numbered: His favors and special treatment will catch up with him. He now has to move up to 168 and face challengers that would take Vera’s lunch money. The judges and Daddy can’t save Jr. from a knockout.

Posted October 1, 2013 5:08 pm

mma is not like boxing. Ive known many people that like watching ufc one year and then the next year they don’t. There’s more passion in boxing, that’s why even Dana White loves boxing himself.

Posted October 1, 2013 5:06 pm

MMA is definitely a more honest sport right now…but it is a DIFFERENT sport. Young and new fans will probably prefer the less corrupted MMA but hardcore boxing fans won’t budge! Just regard boxing matches as exhibitions.

Posted October 1, 2013 5:02 pm

For Christ sakes, it wasn’t “terrible” judging. The judges did exactly as they were supposed to do. Why are people afraid to state the obvious? And why won’t it happen again?

Stop wasting your time with rigged shows like chavez vs vera. By watching, all your doing is supporting thieves and those who ruin careers such as vera’s. MMA is far superior, more entertaining and each card has a minimum of 10 fights, 7 being main event worthy. Money may sees the light and will be a huge figure in mma promotion along with golden boy promotions, you will see. Prayers go out to vera’s family and camp

This reminds me of bradley vs pacquiao, even after they rescored the fight and judges had pacquiao winning they couldn’t overturn it. So Bradley got a gift victory from Bob.

As I and many others have s said before, boxing has become disgraceful. It’s bad enough with mis-matches, but when a boxer is robbed outright before the public’s eyes it is criminal. However I and others know that nothing will be done about it. All that we, the boxing public could do is not order any PPV events from now on. That would be depriving us of a “sport” that we love, but what else can we do?

Posted October 1, 2013 3:29 pm
