Wow, I don’t have a problem with Brits clearly pulling for Cleverly. I’m sure if I was a Brit I would also. However, saying you guarantee Cleverly is stopping Kovalev seems to be a little bit of a stretch. Cleverly has 12 kos in 26 fights. Kovalev KO’d 19 in 21. I’m sorry guys from the UK, that’s a bit outside of reality to say “Kovalev is getting stopped. Guarantee it.”. The only thing I can guarantee is that Kovalev has fought 5 less fights and has 7 more KO’s and a guy with a 21-0 (19ko) record is not coming to fight for the final bell.

Posted August 17, 2013 2:31 pm

Hey, its been asked already about the start time but being in California with a start time of 6:45pm, that would mean that they would be entering the ring in Wales at 2:45 in the morning, certainly this is a tape delay. I’ll check and see if there is an East Coast feed, it probably really starts at 6:45 eastern time.

the rusk looks weak around the midriff, Clev will use his maths to create the right angle on his body shots to exploit this weakness.

i don’t understand the fear behind kovalev – he hasn’t fought anyone you could describe as a top european let alone world level. so yeah he record does look good. i think cleverly stops him and gives kovalev a good beat down in the process and it won’t even be close

Posted August 17, 2013 10:20 am

I worry for Nathan in this fight because I don’t think he’s displaying the cautious attitude necessary for him to stay out of the range of Kovalev’s power shots. I hope I’m wrong and caution makes him fight at a full distance and allows him to outbox Kovalev while avoiding his power shots. I’m convinced that Nathan has the speed, skills and chin to beat Kovalev however if he chooses the wrong gameplan then that will be that!

Posted August 17, 2013 10:07 am

BEARS, you say you love the uk scene. What uk boxers do you rate highly, if any?

Posted August 17, 2013 8:01 am

Th forecast for this fights a simple one. Cleverly krused and look not much dif than all other kovalev victims. Kovalev has faced harder punchers. Cleverly hasn’t faced anything remotely close to the power kovalevs bringing

Posted August 17, 2013 7:46 am

@c.morgan- no way this goes like Golovkin v Macklin. Cleverly too good for that and BTW, the body shot is one of Cleverly’s trademarks. He also takes a good shot and this is what makes it so interesting. If he can absorb or deflect Kovalev’s power and take him to the later rounds then we are in for a treat.

Posted August 17, 2013 6:02 am

Bears I agree on paper and against sub par opposition Krusher looks awesome but now he’s up against a rock hard unbeaten champion I wish him the best, also I’m a Scot and will support my Celtic cousin Clev all the way.

Hey eastsiders. Being an american I’ve only seen a couple of Cleverly fights that I had to torrent so I dont know too too much but he seems like a well schooled boxer with a good chin and slightly above average power. Kovalev on the other hand seems like something special, a Golovkin type destroyer that makes it look easy.

I hope the fight is competitive and that if Cleverly is stopped he doesnt have to take an extended career ending beatdown.

Could this fight play out similarily to Golovkin – Macklin?

The Klitschko’s have got PHD’s and can’t even speak English, so go figure.

In Wales, they give everyone 2.2’s in Maths at birth.

Watch Cleverly fight, he can count to 5, maybe 6 at a push … truly an exception.

Posted August 16, 2013 9:00 pm

British is British, Lewis, Calzaghe, Hamed, Benn, Eubank, Froch, Cleverly etc, etc, Kovalev is going to lose.

Posted August 16, 2013 8:08 pm

Cleverly has got a math degree, not the easy stuff, 12 x table, the Einstein stuff, Cleverly will work Kovalev out.

Posted August 16, 2013 7:10 pm

Cleverly would do well on countdown and mastermind and 15-1.

Posted August 16, 2013 7:03 pm

Bears is a fat twat, go away, your opinions are not respected.

Posted August 16, 2013 6:32 pm

I expect Cleverly to outbox Kov, beat him up with his speed and combinations.

Don’t wanna see Cleverly hanging his chin out for Kovalev to hit to prove a point and box smart over 12 rnds.

Posted August 16, 2013 6:29 pm

Hidalgo- message received. Let me remind u that kovalev is not “just a big puncher” he’s killed a man in the ring. His power is not “big” its “murderous”. That’s what my friend squared circle or fight afficiando said. I like that. Kovalevs power is through the rector scale and measuring in at MURDEROUS.

Posted August 16, 2013 6:28 pm

“you would be well suited to just get on the bandwagon now and save yourself possible grief at the hands of “THE KRUSHER””

Well, Bears, I’m not worried about it. I know Kovalev is a puncher. If Cleverly doesn’t make it past him I can live with that. I expect Cleverly to do well against him. If not, I’ve been wrong before and it won’t kill me. BTW, White boxers better than he talks. He’s not a real bright guy. He’s not much of a boxer either.

“massive questionable chin” -another kornerman gem

wow. you call taking a knee in the amateurs a massive questionable chin? have you watched kovalev blitz krieg through campillo and white and all his victims for that matter? believe me that chin of kovalevs has been jacked. when you have a blitz krieg style like kovalevs its there to be hit and guess what. kovalev has been un f n fadeable son.

this fight might pain kornerman more watching cleverly get brutalized than it does cleverly experiencing the brutalization. lol

Im really looking forward to this fight and the crowing of the light heavyweight KING. SERJ KOVALEV!!!

Posted August 16, 2013 2:15 pm

“Theres no chance kovalev is winning” -kornerman

Thats the most delusional thing i ever heard and again why i would love to be in the uk putting big money on kovalev right now. because of fans like kornerman giving me their money.

If cleverly pulled it off it would be an upset of epic proportion if you ask me. hell yeah a congratulations would be in order for cleverly and a shed load of respect. His popularity would SKY ROCKET.

But i would feel about ten times safer saying theres no chance cleverly wins as opposed to saying theres no chance kovalev wins. that quote is mind boggling. you just must be a rabid cleverly nuthugger to say such a thing. lol. or an ardent supporter of home fighters.

Posted August 16, 2013 2:10 pm

Hidalgo mate its possible Clev demolishes Kovalev, he has a massive questionable chin that Clev will land on frequently.

Posted August 16, 2013 2:06 pm

Hidalgo-campillo was a champ dude. i think your forgetting. white had a 70% ko percentage. I will call cleverly a good opponent and probably best scalp. theres just no way cleverly can endure. and i think he will be out early like everyone else. first half of the fight and possibly first third. kovalev is ALSO cleverlys best opponent. and cleverly has faced noone like him. cleverly has faced very light hitters compared to kovalev. cleverlys best win thus far is murat. and thats a good win. Kovalev is in a league of his own with almost a 90% ko percentage this guy is not just a light heavy sensation. He’s a boxing sensation. you would be well suited to just get on the bandwagon now and save yourself possible grief at the hands of “THE KRUSHER”

nd for kovalev to stop cleverly speaks volumes about kovalev and bodes very well for him. a champ whos never been stopped and deffended 5 or so times like kovalev. I will call this a larger a feather in kovalevs cap than dawson was for stevenson because dawson just seems destroyed after the camp leading up to his boiled down fight with ward.

Regardless. kovalev vs stevenson unification must be made directly after this bout. It is all I want to talk about as far as fights at light heavy after this bout. Please no light heavyweight articles on any other fighters or fights after this bout east side.

Posted August 16, 2013 2:06 pm

in case any Krusher lovers don’t know Kovalev was downed as an amateur big head guard and all, like Vince Cleverly says he hasn’t ever seen a guy that got put down in the amateurs not go down as a pro,Cleverly has never been downed, I wonder if you’s will give Clev his due respect when he tames and schools the crude Russian, if Krusher wins I will congratulate him but there’s no chance that’s happening.

Posted August 16, 2013 2:03 pm

What I meant to say Bears is that it’s possible for Clev to outbox Kov.

Posted August 16, 2013 1:56 pm

“there is just no possible way a guy with 46% stoppage rate is gonna come close to even testing kovalev in any faucet or phase of the boxgame.”

Cleverly can outbox Kovalev, Bears, just like Mayweather outboxed Cotto. Mayweather couldn’t stop Cotto either, but he still beat him.

Posted August 16, 2013 1:56 pm

BTW, record-wise, White and Campillo are Kovalev’s two greatest victories to date. Now he’s getting in the ring with a champion. We’ll see how he does.

Posted August 16, 2013 1:54 pm

Kovalev starts fast and is an excellent finisher. But Cornelius White is nobody special who has fought and beat a lot of putzes. Kovelev’s only real claim to fame was his TKO win over Campillo.

Posted August 16, 2013 1:53 pm

there is just no possible way a guy with 46% stoppage rate is gonna come close to even testing kovalev in any faucet or phase of the boxgame. The forecast for this bout is BLATANTLY OBVIOUS. If they were giving good odds for cleverly in the uk I would bet everything i had on kovalev. I swear the people in the uk bet with their hearts instead of their brains often times. I never do that. No matter how bad I want a guy to win.

Posted August 16, 2013 1:52 pm

“Cleverly is a bottom feeder who has conned his countrymen. ” He’s a world champion who has defended his title something like five times. Any champion can be toppled from this throne any time, but to call Cleverly a bottom feeder is ridiculous.

Posted August 16, 2013 1:50 pm

Cleverly called out and took the kovalev fight and hey thats awesome on cleverlys part. It seems really noone has been wanting a piece of serj kovalev and for good reaseon.

Kovalev is one of the most entertaining fighters in boxing right now. His power is unreal. Cleverly does not look as big as campillo and kovalev just imposed his will on campillo and went right through his punches to land his own. It’s excactly whats gonna happen in this fight. Kovalev coming forward like a terminator. cleverly throwing punches that seem to have no effect and dont slow down or deter kovalev in the slightest. Nasty KO win for kovalev tomorrow. cleverly is getting brutalized just like all the other kovalev opponents.

This is going to be cleverlys first ko loss. We better be seeing a unification bout immediately after this!!!! kovalev vs adonis and i got kovalev. It would be sooooo awesome to watch kovalev brutalize bernard hopkins. but bernards fears kovalev. this division is heating up something fierce!!

I’m glad he has taken this fight as he never got a chance to fight breamer for his title as he went to prison and bar bellow clev has had an easy ride so far but this proves he wants to fight either the best or the hardest so no clev is not a coward. And he is the champ and a bigger name so yes the fight will be in Britain when bigger names come clev will get on that plane for sure. But this is a very exciting fight a real 50 50 with people so sure on either guy with no chance of this being close. Looking forward to it and hoping clev wins and shuts up all these haters.

Posted August 15, 2013 12:35 pm

Peeps are writing off Cleverley, so far he has shown an iron chin, great stamina and high volume of punches landed. Those are all bad news for Kovalev provided that Cleverleys chin holds up. If he can take Kovalev’s shots he wins.

Lol @ David Jackson – I understand what he’s doing saying Cleverly has to go to war to win US fans, but Cleverly isn’t stupid, this guy is known as v v dangerous and come with a lot of US hype. Win this anyway you can and the doors will open up for Cleverly big time. It’s time for Cleverly to show he’s matured as a fighter and box smartly to a plan.

Posted August 15, 2013 8:29 am

Surprising to see how much bigger Cleverly is than Kov. He’s not a big puncher but is a big, strong, physical boy and goes to the body beautifully and always seems to hurt his oppo to the body and drains them.

Clev needs to turn Kov with movement – Kov doesn’t have great footwork, frustrate and take the early sting out of him, use his speed and head movement, and pressure and push him back at the right times at a high pace for the first 6 rounds.

If hurt he needs to tie Kov up and then move until recover then go again.

Kov defensively is also wide open – use speed get through and move.

If he can get through those the first 6 rounds, then I think the fight is his and he can really step it up and push Kov back and put the pressure on.

The first 6 rounds are vital and will define the winner.

Great fight, respect to cleverly for taking this fight.
Cleverly seems like a nice lad, and is not hiding from dangerous fighters like alot of other champions.
I feel Kovalev is the harder fighter, both physically and mentally, he has natural power and a tough psyche shaped by his hard life expierence.
However cleverly is smart, has technique , stamina and home advantage.

This fight has foty written all over it, hope it will be as good/close as lebedev vs Guillermo jones.

Kovalev destroys the over rated coward Cleverly. Constantly fighting at home with his judges and ref. He needs these against mediocre opposition but now he fights the real thing and a monster in Kovalev. The judges can’t win for you when your seeing stars.
