The Rios/Pacquiao fight is not about testing Pac or Rios, or proving Pac can still win or deserves to fight Mayweather, etc. It’s about money, purely and solely. Pacquiao is a very popular boxer. Almost all of his fights have been full of action and excitement. Same with Rios. Arum matched these two guys up because he knows the fight will sell. It will be a brawl-punchfest-slugfest. Arum is bringing one of the most popular sports in the world to China, and it’s a major venue at that. But like I said, it’s all about money. That’s all Arum cares about.

Ghetto thong- what did I tell u about flapping away your lips boy? Pacquioa is not on my list of heroes, but unlike some fans here im speaking realistic… no fkn way will Rios beat Pacquioa.

China just got there Olympic amateur boxing competitions rolling on all wheels in the last 8 years… They’re still getting regional and national tournaments developed to develop the best talent. Their coaches are still mostly foreign coaches at this point. In 20 years they will have a lot of world class boxers because of the systematic way they go about things … The Soviet Union started a program to develope world class heavyweight boxers in the 1970’s … and it didn’t really bear any fruit until the 1990’s.

I am a fan of Pacquiao but I have bad feelings about this fight. Everyone may be underestimating Rios but I think Rios is the best fighter in Garcia’s gym and better than Margocheato who hurt Pacquiao several times. To me, Pacquiao is being way too nice to Rios in the promotional tours almost as if to say take it easy on me when we fight because we’re buddies now and I gave you your chance to see the world. I hope I am way off course on this one. Unfortunately, I think Rios will stop Pacquaio and I’ll have to watch MMA with my kids henceforth. Somebody, tell me I’m wrong and everything will be ok.

sure they have a pot now. Back in the 1990’s bill Clinton signed GATT/free trade. So now all of our clothes/shoes is made in China, India and Bangladesh. Too bad they do not have fire alarms in those places. thanks bill.

Btw, jumping through hoops to collect a marginally better payday in China? think again. American fighters might do that once or twice but will do a 180 as soon as they experience a significant or controversial loss, at which point they will blame their loss on having to “acclimate, for a few weeks . . . get up at 7AM and have their prefight meal . . . go for a walk, rest until 10AM and go to the arena . . . wait until about 30 minutes to go to glove up and start hitting the focus pads”, etc. ultimately, when American fighters turn pro they are no longer willing to re-pay their dues by jumping through the same hoops they hopped through as amateurs. it’s naïve and unrealistic to think that American fighters will willingly assume the burden of foreign fighters who’ve been compromising and sacrificing for decades for the opportunity to fight in the States. American fighters are simply too soft, spoiled, and entitled. there may be exceptions like Rios who self-identifies with a greater-Mexican boxing tradition but i don’t see this happening among any other group of American fighters.

the big paydays will vanish as soon as Rios puts the final touches on Pacquiao* who is the only Asian fighter that Asian high-rollers or even average Asians will pay to watch. Zhiming has no global fanbase he can count on, which means no bigger paydays to attract non-Asian fighters to travel across the Pacific for a payday they can easily collect back home. answer: NO, the big fights will NOT be going to China as long as they have no superstar who can attract a global audience.

not all of those people have a pot to piss in you fool …

China is a GOLD mine. 1 Billion potential customers. IF you do enough marketing you should make an EASY 100 Million IF not MORE .

Posted August 3, 2013 11:22 pm

thats got nothing to do with better …you need to rethink your philosophy……

Posted August 3, 2013 10:36 pm

It does if a fighter pays less in taxes.

Posted August 3, 2013 10:20 pm

fights in China would be good for boxing. The sport can lure in more fans. IF boxers can put more in the bank, better.

Posted August 3, 2013 4:04 pm

Pac might show a china chin in China.

Posted August 3, 2013 2:28 pm

Like I said. I disagree with that. Just don’t see it happen g. Especially in china.

If a boxing card in China starts at 9 am it’ll be 6 pm in San Francisco and 9 pm in NYC. The main event is then 8pm PST/10pm EST, as is standard here. If it’s a big fight those degens in Macau will have no problem with that. As for the US fighters, as TARK says they’ll acclimate to anything as long as it’s a big payday.

Posted August 3, 2013 12:49 pm

I disagree with that. Staying up till 1,2, or 3 in the morning is one thing. Waking up at 4, 5, or 6 in the morning is another thing. I can tell you Floyd is one if my favorite fighters but if I have to stay up and watch hi fights at 4 in the morning I won’t be watching. I really doubt US fighters are willing to do this. Especially when they can make a lot of money gere

Posted August 3, 2013 9:59 am

When Lennox Lewis used to fight in London they had a fight card that went from 8pm until 2 or 3 in the morning in order to accomodate the American PPV market. When Pacquiao fights it’s like a social thing in the Philippines, everyone gathers at the coimmunity basketball court and they all watch together around midday. In the future though that won’t need to happen because America is broke and their TV market won’t mean as much when nobody can afford PPV.

Posted August 3, 2013 9:09 am

Boxers will fight any time of day if the money is right.., Chinese promoters know the big PPV audiences are in North America on Saturday night.. If the main event goes off shortly after noon in China it’s perfect.

The boxers can acclimate, for a few weeks and get up at 7AM and have their prefight meal… Then they go for a walk, rest until 10AM and go to the arena.. The thing is to wait until about 30 minutes to go to glove up and start hitting the focus pads. You’re fighting for the most money you can possibly make … You’re not too worried about having to fight at different times of the day.. You had plenty of that as an amateur where you didn’t get paid.

Posted August 3, 2013 2:52 am

The problem with fighting in China is they either have to fight really early so folks in the US can watch it live or not have many fans in the US watch it at all. They don’t mind staying up over night to watch Pac live when he fights in the US. There is no way that the folks here in the US will do that. Plus if they fight early, the US based fighters probably won’t like that. They first arrive early to get acclimated but then have to fight early in the morning, that won’t happen

Posted August 3, 2013 2:14 am

They have been making a lot of stuff for a very long time. But they are not coming at all. Over the long haul everybody becomes the number 1 power house. It all rotates until the end of the world.

Anyways….. Pacquioa will slaughter Rios.

Posted August 2, 2013 11:13 pm

PEEJ- whats ridiculous is that kind of thinking. Wake up! Dont get caught sleeping! The chinese are coming! US military is the best in the world but we are sinking fast… China is no joke. China makes everything, slowly but surely they are sneaking past us. They ARE buying US debt. Chinese buisness men are buying massive amounts of land HERE in the US.

Posted August 2, 2013 11:12 pm

We are plenty with out China. That is ridiculous.

Posted August 2, 2013 10:29 pm

Whats Rios smiling about? You’re about to get KTFO !!! Pacquioa wins.

Posted August 2, 2013 10:22 pm

Yep yep…. its sad but true. China is buying US debts. Beloved USA is nothing without China now.

Posted August 2, 2013 10:15 pm

Mayweather would take Pac apart. There is nothing Floyd likes more than a come forward boxer with no defense. Fight will never happen anyways so not point in talking about it. Blame that on Arum

Wishful thinking

China Crisis.

Posted August 2, 2013 9:50 pm

Mayweather would of got a whooping from Paquiao, may still, Mayweather is a fighter boxer, he knows, avoid that, Pacquiao is not good for Mayweather, the actual night of the fight, not just styles, Mayweather will quake, scared.

Posted August 2, 2013 9:10 pm

Serviviente, I agree, Rios is “about to get a whooping by a fighter that is in a complete different league”. Rios hasn’t fought any top fighter, other than Alvarado, twice at 140. Other than that, all his other previous fights were at 135 and against easy opponents. He’s going to be overwhelmed and KO by Pac.

Posted August 2, 2013 6:45 pm

They may as well leave boxing in Vegas. China owns the United States anyway.

Posted August 2, 2013 4:59 pm

Don’t blame anyone for wanting to keep more of their money. The USA is ridiculous as far as taxes, tax for this and tax for that…..greedy ass government. I would fight there too, i don’t want to give the government any more than they deserve which is NOTHING!

The Great Wall

You can see Pacquiao’s big Ped head from space.

Posted August 2, 2013 4:40 pm

Pacman wins this one easy, unless the politics come into play, hence: the bradly grand theft

Posted August 2, 2013 4:10 pm

Plus China doesn’t accept CHERRYPICKIN or CATCHWEIGHTS.

Posted August 2, 2013 3:51 pm

Another fighter tat thinks that going up 2 classes will make him stronger….sure it will…wink…wink. This clown is about to get a whooping by a fighter tht is in a complete different league. Brandon keeps talking like he already made it in boxing….laughable.

Yes. China’s had some halfway decent boxing matches for years already. But Macau has opened the floodgates with Pac-Rios. It’s a bigger casino industry than Vegas, in fact some casino operators based in Nevada actually make more money off Macau than they do in Vegas. So it makes sense more big fights will happen there. Sick wealth in Macau BTW, dudes on the poker circuit go there and make millions in high stakes cash games.

The people of China request the Mexican/Mexican American//Filipino/Japanese Warriors to the fights ONLY.

Posted August 2, 2013 3:14 pm

That picture looks like there about to have a fight…..Manny has missed out on a greater legacy, cruising to 12 rounds wins since Clottey, this nice guy image an letting guys off in the ring isn’t for me…
