Petersons eyes told, the story after the first knockdown. After that itwas, lpretty evident by his reaction and body language that Peterson realized just what he was dealing with un front of him. Honestly im glad to see that you have up and coming fighters who are determined to make a name for themselves by fighting the BEST competition available. Boxing needs this shot in the arm desperately. At this pount I frankly don’t care if Mr.Mayweather retires “undefeated” History will be the final assessor of his standing. THAT is a certainty.I would rather he just leave altogether and then the rest of the boxing universe will not have to be held hostage to his SCRIPTED EVENTS.

I think thats what happened to Peterson, mentally he was drained. The though of catching a punch from Matthysse must have been an imense pressure for him.

Good point Ray. Two fisted, fighters or should I say fighters possessing power in BOTH hands are very, very hard to beat. They aren’t invincible. NO ONE IS. However when you add to the equation exceptional stamina, endurance,SPEED AND a pretty durable chin, then the opponent has an uphill battle. Add to the mix most importantly, the will to win. There have been many prolific punchers throughout the history of the squared circle. Yet they were almost ALWAYS POWERFUL in ONE hand. So a skilled ,boxer puncher knew what side to work off of. Also, very few had all the assets I just mentioned above. The most notable of that few is the BEST CHAMPION IN MY VIEW ,JOE LOUIS. His reign of over a decade and record title defenses testify to the threat he held in both fists. Opponents were BEATEN before they entered the ring because let me tell you,it takes a LOT of mental energy ,composure mentally and physically to keep your nerves steady when the man facing you can HIT WITH CONCUSSIVE FORCE with either hand. Couple that with impressive velocity and endurance,it is truly a titanic stress factor for the man who has to deal with that.. Julian Jackson comes to mind. He was avoided during his prime by MANY a fighter because of that. He also like Mr.,Matthesse learned how to deal with the MOVERS. See Jackson vs Terry Norris. Even if being outboxed the constant threat of the ko punch looms heavy. He will be interesting to watch from here on out.

Largo- I understand what you are trying to address when it comes to comparing boxers with their respective styles. Im not saying Matthysse is unstoppable or that Danny Garcia isnt any good. You said styles make fights. Lucas Matthysee hasnt ever been given proper credit. He has taken the rough road and if he is in this position hes at now its because hes earned it. As well as Danny Garcia. BUT Danny does not have superb countering skills, thats all Im saying. At least not now. If they met at 147lbs a later stage in their career, hey maybe Danny could defeat Matthysse. So its not that Im a big fanboy so much but When I saw him destroy Humberto Soto a really good technical boxer and put down him down the way he did and Humberto Soto had never been stopped, I said this boy has a bright future. He has been in some good fights with good fighters and shown resilience after his 2 losses. Hes shown (me) that he will dominate the 140lbs division. His power is what has taken him there and its not just in one hand but he has it in both. So its tough to say that Danny has the tools to dismantle this heavy hitter without getting hit. Those punches are skull-crushing punches. my 2 cents

Lucas is the truth! How he has 2 loses i have no idea! Him n garcia will be a hell of a fight!

Largo- thank you sir.

Ray, I didn’t see your other comments on the other thread where it can clearly be seen your fan boy passion. I regret I engaged you in what I thought could be an useful & educated discussion; i’m letting you be, good luck to you…

Ray, I’ve been around boxing for some time for me to be sure about anything; I don’t deny any fighter his due credit & in fact I give hell to posters who do so; Mattysse’s power punching display was owe-inspiring no doubt but if you know some history, you’d know that in boxing things don’t work as predictably as you think they do. I’m giving you an honest advice because you’re making a wide-eyed fan mistake; believe me, Mattysee has some serious opposition at 140 that will test him because they won’t go down easily & will be punching back with power also. He might KO everybody but you have to admit, those fights outcomes aren’t written in stone as you guarantee they are , do you agree?

Lucas Mathysse = Power in both hands

Posted May 19, 2013 11:07 pm

Yep. I saw Peterson mentally worn down. He was too worried about Matthysee’s power.

Boxing is 80 to 90% mental. All the other, aspects compromise the remaining ten percent. Lucas has a very good mindset. His self confidence is high as it should be , with his knockout ratio little wonder it is . However He still can tighten up on his defense a bit. That being said, judging from Danny garcias reaction I would venture to say that Mr. Mattyese already has the mental edge over Mr. Garcia. That’s important because should they ever square up in the ring ,it will no doubt determine hoe Garcia will approach Mr. lucas. Will he be hesitant and not as willing to open up fearing the return fire? Will be interesting to see.

Largo- You said ” a suberb, all around boxer…” Is Danny Garcia that type of boxer? No. Not even his groupie ( Public Enemy ) will acknowledge that. Public Enema said and quote ” he is still GREEN “, so what does that tell you? Danny Garcia also throws a WIDE left, leaving himself open. Look at his fights.

Posted May 19, 2013 10:51 pm

Largo so to answer your question: Yes Lucas Mathysse looked great against Peterson and WILL dominate the 140lbs division and Mayweather will dominate the 147lbs division.

Posted May 19, 2013 10:41 pm

Largo- Very simple my friend. Was it you or someone else that said Peterson would give Mathysse problems? I said Mathysse would win and……… he did. I understand styles make fights but again what style would defeat Mathysse? I already told you, a Mayweather style. defensive, counter puncher. EVEN if Danny Garcia was a great counter puncher he still gets hit alot. He likes mixing it. When that happens my friend, Matthysse will be there up close and landing his deadly punches, which reminds me, you know has power in both hands, right?

Public Enemy

Where are the Mexican fighters at 140????? LOL running for the Border… with their Chihuahua tails between their little legs..

Posted May 19, 2013 10:28 pm

Ray, the way you write implies that you know before hand that Mattysse will blow everybody outta the ring except Floyd; well, in that case why even bother? That tells me you’re too impressionable & you never heard about styles make fights; Julian Jackson was also a monster, undefeated puncher when he faced McCallum, a terrific body-puncher & all-around superb boxer puncher who dismantled him & took’im out. Boxing has intangibles & variables that makes it what Merchant called “the theater of the unexpected”. Lucas is a monster but don’t jump the gun so quickly, my friend, we have some very tough guys that will be willing to test’im & maybe even dismantle him & take’im out…know what I mean??? just slow down a bit.

Impressive win by a dynamic fighter. Unfortunately already as I’ve gone on some of these forums, certain individuals are already crying foul. Making incredible baseless accusations of ped use by the Argentina dynamo. According to them “brutha ” Peterson was the victim of Lucas usinf the needle in order to get his knockout win. Quite frankly that is a very low blow and I for one am getting fed up with all the racial diarea that some individuals feel is necessary to VOMIT out. The man is a good fighter PERIOD. Let’s just be fair and move on. As for Khan, he needs to keep his mind focused on improving and less on trying to make headlines. He is NOT ready for the argentina Machine.

I think Danny Garcia would like to take a vacation before he tackles this monster Mathysse. I hope it does get made. Its would be intresting but devasting to Danny. Matthysee has shown he can handle tall, slick, and fast fighters and always comes out on top. Unless its Mayweather, I dont think anyone at 140lbs can beat him not even Danny.

The odds of any one fighter winning last night (Matthysse vs- Peterson) were less certain than say….. ………FLOYD VS GUERRERO!….everybody knew who would win that fight since it was initially mentioned. Peterson has a ton of heart and brass for taking such a challenge knowing full well a win was not set in stone or predetermined like so many of Floyd’s fights have been the past couple of years. I don’t think Alexander wants any of Lucas right now. Lucas not only is but has been the Real Deal for some time now. On another note, JMM went up TWO divisions to serve as sparring partner for Floyd on PPV. Should he dare, Matthysse is only one division below and soon to go up.

“Afraid” is an unspoken word in boxing BUT the general public can tell when a boxer would rather “skip, seek out other challenges, not worthy,I’m not focused on him right now, didnt give me the money I wanted, we will see….etc.” Usually any of those phrases are good indications that there is a reason why the fight isnt made without some “worrying”.

Posted May 19, 2013 9:47 pm

Castellanos, you’re assuming way too much…fighters, in general, are un-afraid & they love challenges; there’s not one reason to think that Danny doesn’t fancy to try his skills & power against a monster like Mattysse; don’t underestimate a fighter just based on your own assumptions…

DANNY GARCIA said before the fight ,,,he had LP winnig he was wronggggg after the fight he was acting like he wants LM next deep inside he knows he is in deep TROUBLE heeeeeee knows it he looked stunned by the outcome of the fight

Lucas is definitely a tough assignment for anybody, like Paulie said, the guy has “scary power”…indeed.

Posted May 19, 2013 9:16 pm

Dont worry Mathysse will kick some puerto rican ass first. I know it hurts you to see you hero’s 5 minutes of fame go down the drain.

Matthysse may not be the most technically sound, but man does he make up for it with his power, and pretty good speed. I think he hurt Peterson when he hit him in the back of the head. I could tell that bothered him. Talk about heavy hands.

Matthysse is a monster right now. He didn’t even appear land his solidly last night. I’m looking forward to Matthysse/Garcia. Heck I would like to see what Garcia’s pop would have to say about Matthysse during the pre-fight press conference.
