Freckles is a superstar! Plain and Simple… if he can get a fight with Mayweather on decent terms all well and good especially with the added bonus of facing and or beating “the best P4P in the world” ; However if the Mayweather camp want to load the deck too much against him – lower weight, purse etc. then Canelo should just keep doing what he’s doing. At 22yo with over 40+ fights and a legitimate championship to his name he’s already had remarkable success in the sport and will be around for a long time to come. As far as the re-hydration issue is concerned unfortunately it is a flaw in the sport that will only be fixed by same day weigh-ins. That said when it’s really mattered in a world championship fight a weight advantage is not whats been the primary deciding factor.

Canelo can make all the demands he wants no matter how outrageous and if Floyd says no to anything he will be ducking. Fact is that Canelo has been calling out Floyd, if he wants him that bad then go get him @ 147. Dave if you think Canelo has a chance at beating Floyd at any weight then you don't know boxing. Trout had success boxing Canelo and he is no where near the level of boxer Floyd is. Couple that with before the Trout fight Canelo had exactly ZERO real fights and tell me why you even think Canelo has a chance.

I see good – can you see that Canelo is a LHW who faught WW & JWW?

I cant wait till Mayweather gets hit by Canelo and does the SOUL TRAIN dance like Trout……Listen.. if this was an easy fight for Mayweather he would off signed that contract days ago, Canelo would give problems to ANYBODY he fights… his that good, OH I forgot that those same doubters that said Trout was going to school him are hating again…….Mayweather, hits like a girld, WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME HE KNOCK SOMEBODY DOWN OR OUT, ORTIZ DOSENT COUNT CAUSE HE GOT SHIP SHOT

Canelo should thank God Mayweather is giving him this opportunity.. sure it’ll cost him a serious ASSWHOOOPIN but it’s more money then they make in this Chihuahhuas home town in a decade…

This kid doesn’t deserve an 80-20 split, more like you get what I give you split “take it or get the hell out of my face fool”. I don’t care what all the Mexican & white haters think, the boy Cindanelo isn’t jack in the sport of boxing. He’s just another name people are throwing at TMT to see if they can get a huge payday. If he was all that than he would have some leverage to make this fight. But he’s a no body to those who know the sport…. Who has he fought? Bums & he lost to Trout in my opinion. Cindanelo’s ticket sales for the Trout fight were so cheap people had money left over to buy souvenirs. I think ringside seats went for $35.99 with a discount for people buying them a day prior to the fight at 75% off. Hahahahahahahaha!!!! Everyone wants Floyd to lose, sorry haters isn’t going to happen. The kid needs to either bring his happy ass down to 147 or go fight guys like Ward (who will beat his ass) that are around the same fight weight before, during and after the fight. Haters kill me with their excuses as to why Floyd, the PPV King needs to fight this kid. The funny thing though about all the talk is it never changes. Fight this guy or you are scare, fight this guy or you are ducking, then when the fight is over its back to the excuses why Floyd made the guy look below average. Haters give it a rest why don’t you? The kid has no, I repeat, NO LEVERAGE in demanding anything from Floyd & I along with his supporters think you haters are the worst thing in the sport of boxing to come along. I wish you all would just get in line & let Marquez put y’all to sleep like he did Pacroid & be done with you……….

Canelo is slicker than Floyd. Haha a teenage Ginger Mexican is slicker than lickle Baboon-eyed Floyd. lolololo

Canelo doesn’t need Mayweather for anything. He’s becoming a big star and can make money very easy. Canelo doesn’t have to come down to147, and he won’t. What a stupid thing to even ask. Who wants to e a guy hit, hold and run? No one. Canelo will have plenty of fights that are very intriguing. Floyd can fight another boring fighter in Devon Alexander. Both can bore themselves to sleep.

NOT! Canelo didn't beat Trout he got a gift. He has no stamina and Mayweater will make him look silly. I know canelo wont give trout a rematch because if the fight is outside of texas the wbc wont be able to fix the fight and Trout will get his revenge. your a funny guy ernie.

There’s lots of names out there for Canelo but vice versa it’s only Canelo and again remember mayweather didn’t do numbers until he fought Oscar de la Hoya, and another thing at Spanish weekends it can be Gavin Rees vs nishioka and trust me were going to ppv it money knows that he’s smart

Posted May 14, 2013 12:52 am

Floyd doesn’t need anybody or anything…now, against who, he’d make the most money? Canelo.

Mayweather will call the shots and it will be his way or no way. Alvarez is really no one as far as Mayweather is concerned.

If Alvarez really believes that he’s that good, then he should target guys in the middleweight class beginning with GGG! Why is it that no one mentions that?

Posted May 13, 2013 8:19 pm

Neither needs each other. It’s another Pacquao-Mayweather scenario. Both will keep raking in the cash while teasing about a matchup. Will be a boring matchup anyway. Canelo doesn’t have the wheels to catch the sprinter.

Hi stuck in a moment. Indeed it’s been a while. Where have you been? I am here regularly but not as much as a few years ago. Dislike the new software and a lot of the old schoolers are gone, replaced by nut slurping fanboys.

bottomline, Mayweather hasn’t come close to the 2.48 million PPV buys courtesy of DLH for their 154lb showdown, which occurred immediately following Floyd’s wins over Baldomir, Judah, Mitchell, Gatti, Bruseles, and Corley. his biggest PPV numbers are still v. the likes of DLH, Hatton, and Cotto, i.e., fighters with established fanbases. moreover, Mayweather’s bout v. Guerrero generated less numbers than his bouts v. Ortiz and Marquez and those guys were even longer shots to defeat win than Guerrero. without marquee opponents like DLH, Hatton, and Cotto, Floyd’s drawing power may actually be declining(?) primarily because no fanbase opens up their wallets to watch Mayweather perform but rather to watch their favorite fighter erase Floyd’s “0”.

Posted May 13, 2013 7:40 pm

Floyd isn’t and won’t “duck” Canelo….that’s an easy fight for Floyd ’cause NO ONE from 154 down can beat Floyd…NO ONE!!!!

Posted May 13, 2013 7:37 pm

Canelo don’t need jack. 23 years old, got a belt, most popular figher in Mexico and the southwest US.

Mayweather v. Broner at 147lbs IS a better matchup than Floyd v. Canelo at 147lbs or even 154lbs. only Mayweather’s previously successful forays to 154lbs make him a viable opponent for the 154lb Canelo in the first place. if Mayweather has now decided to pull the plug on any additional bouts at that weight, it’s his prerogative and better for Boxing overall. Mayweather can compete but he’s not at his best at 154lbs. just like Canelo would not be at his best at 147lbs in which case, what’s the point or appeal of this matchup if one or both fighters are compromised or handicapped at unnatural weights? this is all about huge paydays that i could care less about unless they result in the best matchups possible. at the moment, Mayweather v. Alvarez doesn’t fit the bill.

Posted May 13, 2013 7:16 pm

The fight is happening at 154 or it’s not happening… Broner is meeting Malignaggi at 147 not 135.. Broner has to jump 2 weight classes and fight a world champion even though it’s his 3rd weight class and he never fought at 140… Two of Floyd’s many World Championships came at 154—so there’s no real excuse for him not to meet Canelo there. Floyd can demand a rehydration limit of 165 or so; that’s a reasonable compromise. No sense fighting strapping Light Heavyweights if you fought most of your career fights at 130. Floyd is a very slender welterweight. If he doesn’t think he can beat Canelo—and doesn’t want the fight—he should demand The Cinnamon Kid come down to 147. That effectively kills the fight without Floyd having to say, “I won’t fight this kid, he’s too good for me.” You can’t say that. So if Floyd doesn’t want the fight—and wants to move on to Broner—you know exactly what he’ll say.

Floyd on fighting Cotto at 154.., “I like to fight guys at the weight they feel most comfortable.”

Dan… That’s in 2 years. Pretty close to never. Maybe that will be Floyd’s last fight. But of canolo gets a loss to a 38 year old it won’t look good. I say they never fight

Posted May 13, 2013 6:54 pm

Canelo needs to stay at his own weight or even higher if need be, there’s enough money in the world for both. Once you reach certain level in boxing the fans will pay. So how much can you really need if you’re making millions anyway. All fighters fade away eventually whether you like them or not. Good luck to both because they’re both a credit to the sport.

Posted May 13, 2013 6:50 pm

That maybe true but Canelo sells PPV, and Floyd piggy backs on Mexican fighters

I disagree Stuck, we will get the fight but not until Cinco 2015. That’s my guessing anyways. Would like to see Mayweather Martinez at 154 next.

Why does floyd choose to fight on Mexican holidays instead of on American holidays?

Of course Canelo needs it more, he’s the young titlist with lots to prove. So what? Floyd needed Gatti to become a PPV fighter and Gatti still fought him. Is this another fanboy excuse justifying why Floyd will duck Canelo?

Posted May 13, 2013 6:36 pm

What do you mean Floyd doesn’t need Canelo and then why schedule fights in May September I don’t see any other green blood out there in more or less same wait level. Those days are pick for a reason nuckle heads.

Posted May 13, 2013 6:29 pm

I don’t really agree anything on the writer about Canelo has no following, he is the most popular fighter out of Mexico. Also why does Floyd only wants to fight on Mexican days like in may or September. Because he knows he makes his money on those days. He should fight on the weekend of 4 of July and see where he makes more money. I do agree the scores were outrages with trout and canelo. I had it a 6 rounds a piece but with the knock down it gave canelo a point win.

Posted May 13, 2013 6:12 pm

lucky to get 80-20?….thats a stretch……i agree he wont get 60-40, but to say hes lucky to get 80-20 is a bit much. Canelo has a big fan base and they are fighting on a mexican holiday…….that brings alot of extra money to the table, so something over an 80-20 split is not anything crazy to ask for (IMO)
