Euro Boxing Roundup: Croatian light heavyweight Stip Drews vacates His EBU title

09.11.06 - By Per Ake Persson: Croatian lightheavy Stip Drews have vacated the EBU title to concentrate on a world title shot. Mandatory challenger for the title is Drews´ stablemate in Universum, Thomas Ulrich, who will now face the highest available challenger. Drews is the official challenger for WBA titleholder Silvio Branco and is in line for a WBC eliminator as well.

Danish feather Spend Abazai have accepted a position as mandatory challenger for EBU ruler Cyril Thomas. Abazi was previously the official challenger for the EU title held by Domenico Urbano. At the same time Danish newsagency Ritzau reports that Abazi, # 3 in the IBF ratings, have been offered a fight for the vacant IBF title against Robert Guerrero.

Italian promoter Rosanna Conti Cavini stage a show in Grosseto November 17 with three fights for the national title on top. At lightheavy Leonardo Turchi defends against Massimiliano Saiani, superbantam champ Fausto Bortolozzo face David Chianella and lightweight ruler Giovanni Niro fight Emiliano Marsili.

EBU heavy king Vladimir Virchis´ voluntary defence of the title that was scheduled for Berlin December 2 is reportedly off.
