20.10.06 - John Hopoate registered his third straight inside the distance win by knocking out fellow former rugby league player Anthony “Chook” Fowler in 34 seconds in Ipswich, Queensland last night.
The two didn't waste time getting in to it and a right uppercut followed by a right hand over the top did the job (though debutant Fowler was gone after hit by the uppercut!). RSC immediately. Fowler spent several minutes on the canvas. “Hoppa” will next at the Magic Millions Complex on the Gold Coast on November 17 on promoter Jamie Myer's card headlined by PABA heavyweight champion and former WBO title challenger Kali Meehan against South Africa's Anton Nel. With obvious punching power and a professional sporting background, Hopoate, 32 could develop into a solid fighter to back his drawing power.
Australian super middleweight champion Jamie Pittman took his record to 11-0 by stopping NZ based trial horse Paz Viejo in two rounds. RSC outclassed. Pittman will fight South Aftrican William Gare on November 24 for the 168 pound WBF title at Terrigal, NSW.
Matt Merideth added to the Queensland title he won as an amateur by stopping former Australian amateur champion Leigh Lindgren in two rounds to claim the State super bantamweight belt.
The aggressive Merideth stunned the lanky Lindgren in the first and in the round two finished him with a left hook and right hand. With Lindgren stiffened on the ropes - RSC. A good win for the battling Merideth who was cornered by Queensland boxing's premier second Billy Colledge.
Local heavyweights Alex Bussetil and Steve Weldge scrapped away to a three round draw.
Shannan Taylor and Gavin Topp boxed a classy and spirited three round exhibition.
