Amato: My Top 20 of All Time

18.09.06 - By Jim Amato: One of my favorite writers and fellow International Boxing Research Organization members Ted Sares came out with his Top Twenty Pound For Pound Of All Time list. This was a list that has been requested from all IBRO members by Director Dan Cuoco. It is so IBRO may compile the members choices and come up with a composite list that may reflect who were the Top Twenty of All Time. Try this...It was very, very hard to do. So many great fighters. So many personal favorites. It made it very difficult to be objective..

I think the world of Ted but on this occasion we agree to disagree. No disrespect intended. I consider Ted a true expert. This is just a difference of opinion. These are my Top Twenty Pound For Pound Of All Time. Here goes...

01) Sugar Ray Robinson
02) Bob Fitzsimmons
03) Ezzard Charles
04) Gene Tunney
05) Harry Greb
06) Henry Armstrong
07) Roberto Duran
08) Willie Pep
09) Benny Leonard
10) Joe Louis
11) Barbados Joe Walcott
12) Sam Langford
13) Jimmy Wilde
14) Joe Gans
15) Archie Moore
16) Eder Jofre
17) Muhammad Ali
18) Jack Johnson
19) Sandy Saddler
20) Jack Dempsey

Just missing the cut were two of my personal favorites, Bob Foster and Carlos Monzon.

Imagine leaving out Sugar Ray Leonard, Ruben Olivares, Carlos Zarate, Emile Griffith, Rocky Marciano, Wilfredo Gomez, Tony Canzoneri, Jose Napoles, Miguel Canto...The list could go on and on. Make no doubt about it, there were some very difficult choices here.

Am I right ? Hell who knows...Just a matter of opinion. What's yours ?
