Takaloo v Jennings Fight Postponed
25.08.06 - By James Slater: The intriguing Takaloo v Michael Jennings bout, for the vacant WBU welterweight title is off. For the time being, at least. Apparently, Takaloo has pulled out of the fight - scheduled to have taken place on the under-card of Clinton Woods v Glen Johnson III, on September 2nd, in Bolton, Lancs. This is depressing news. Not only is this fight off for now, but the heavyweight match-up, between heavyweight enigma, Danny Williams and Scott Gammer has also just been scrapped. That's two of British boxing's most appealing contests from the coming weeks ruined.

Most of all though, my heart goes out to Michael Jennings. Having paid a recent personal visit to The Moston and Collyhurst Lads Club gymnasium, in Manchester, where Jennings has been preparing for the fight with the hard punching Takaloo - and seen first hand just how enthusiastically he has been throwing himself into training, it's a crying shame that his big bout has been put off. One can only hope that a replacement opponent will be found for Michael. That way, though it will undoubtedly be a small consolation, at least he will still have the chance to perform on September the 2nd. After the intense training he has put in, it would be an outrage for his efforts to have been completely wasted..
Maybe, hopefully, the Takaloo fight will still happen for Michael ( it is still unclear as to what exactly Takaloo's motives for withdrawing are). This new trend, of fighters withdrawing their services from contests so close to the event, however, seems to be catching on in the U.K.
For dedicated boxers such as Michael Jennings, this is truly awful news.
