09.07.06 - Cory “The Next Generation” Spinks (photo by Tom Casino / Showtime) - “I felt great tonight. Karmazin was very tough but I trained to fight 12 rounds and I did. I prayed every night for this. My trainer Kevin Cunningham always gives me extra ‘umph’. I painted a masterpiece with my natural talents. I knew I just needed to execute because I was ready. That’s just what I did.”
Roman “Made in Hell” Karmazin: “Spinks was very tricky. It took me until the seventh round to figure him out, then he ran for the rest of the fight.
“It was hard to win with a referee like the one we had tonight. He didn’t let me work at close range. I asked him to let me fight out of the clinches, but he didn’t let me. I will keep working and be back in action soon.”
Jean-Marc Mormeck vs. Sebastian Hill
Jean-Marc Mormeck: “I am very happy with my performance tonight. I want my world titles back and it doesn’t matter with whom. I just want to win another world title.
“It would please me most if Don King could stage my next fight in my homeland of France.”
Devon Alexander vs. Tyler Ziolkowski
DEVON ALEXANDER “THE GREAT”: “My winning the WBC Youth Welterweight Championship is the just the beginning. It feels good.
“My trainer and I focused on slowing down and turning over my punches so I’ll have more power. I’m still transitioning from amateur to pro but the power is coming.”
KEVIN CUNNIGHAM (Alexander’s trainer): “He knocked Zilokowski out with a right hook. That’s a good sign that the work we did in camp focusing on slowing down and developing his power is working. He’s sitting down on his punches more and landing power shots.”
Maselino Masoe vs. Randy Griffin
Randy “The Gentleman” Griffin: “Masoe is a former world champion and a real tough guy. He took everything I threw but I out-worked him.
“I want Felix Sturm next and a shot at the World Boxing Association middleweight title.”
