Undefeated super lightweight prospect Marvin “Much-Too-Much” Cordova will put his perfect 7-0, 5kos record on the line February 11th in Pueblo, Colorado as he takes on another undefeated prospect in Minnesota's Scott Ball. Ball comes in at the same 7-0 but he has only seen the final bell once as six of his seven wins have come by knock-out. Cordova has recently begun to step up the competition looking to gain much needed ring experience by taking on durable-24 fight veteran Corey Alarcon in his last bout. Unfortunately he didn’t get any rounds under his belt as he stopped Alarcon in just 56 seconds! This has left the matchmakers at JewBoy looking for another route to get Cordova rounds, fighting fellow prospects. This one is sure to be a great fight as neither man knows how to loose and will be fighting hard to protect their undefeated records. The GBU Youth Title will be at stake in this eight rounder.
The co-main event will showcase Ronald “The American Dream” Johnson in a very similar situation to his stable mate as he will be facing an undefeated prospect as well in Dannon Svab who comes in at 5-0 with 3 wins by knock-out. Although Svab is untested he should have some size advantage as he has been fighting at cruiserweight, as heavy as 186lbs, while Johnson is a super middle who will eventually settle in at 168lbs. Johnson won his last bout by knock out in the fourth round over a tough-as-nails opponent in Arturo Briceno and he will look to keep right on rolling. This bout is scheduled for six rounds.
The feature bout of the card will bring in the big boys for six rounds of action as heavyweight prospect and 2004 National Golden Gloves winner Rafael Butler will take on tough journeyman Ronnie Smith. Butler was upset in his last bout getting stopped by John Clark and he will be looking to put that fight behind him and get back on track. That will be no short order as Smith has been in with some of the divisions best including 34-9 David Bostice, 21-2 Vinny Madalone and Denver's own Davarryl Williamson. Smith has seen the final bell in seven of his last eight, Butler will try to find a way to put an end to that streak as he is a knock out artist with 11 of his 15 wins coming by knock out including 9 in the first round! Advice for this fight: Don’t take your eyes off the ring as the end can come quickly.
The under card will be a hot ticket as well going to the other end of the spectrum we have bantam weight prospect Ernie Marquez welcoming pro debuter Chris Segura to the professional ranks in a four rounder. Marquez has many state and regional titles under his belt as an amateur including state Golden Gloves and ABA champion. He will be putting his considerable talent and skill on display in his third fight as a professional continuing his journey towards his first title as a professional.
David Marquez will be back in action as well when he faces off with Jason Chacon in a four rounder. Marquez got off to a rough start in his pro career losing a decision on the road. He worked his way back to .500 with his win over Dustin Guillenmen at the beginning of December and he will look to carry that momentum into this fight.
Amateur star Maurice Louishomme is also scheduled to fight on this card with his opponent yet to be announced. Louishomme finished his amateur career ranked 9th in the country including a bronze medal at the 2005 US Men's Championships. He made his pro debut in very impressive fashion with a 'Knock Out of The Year' candidate stoppage over Kolmadge Harris.
This card has quickly gone from being a career advancing show for the JewBoy prospects to an outstanding showdown between true and talented prospects. The main and co-main event bouts are definitely the type of fights you would expect to see on Showtime's highly acclaimed boxing series "ShoBox", which is a showcase for up and coming talent. But you won't have to shell out for a subscription to cable t.v. for this one as you can witness it the way boxing is meant to be 'felt', live in person at the Pueblo Events Center on Saturday, February 11th. If you have never been to a live boxing event here is your chance to experience the sport at it's very best.
Tickets are available at the Pueblo Convention Center box office or by calling 719-542-1100 or 702-349-5743. Pre-sale tickets are going swiftly so you will want to get your tickets sooner rather than later or you will risk missing this spectacular boxing event.
