Sam - Maskaev Weigh-In Results

11.11.05 - By Per Ake Persson: WBC Intl champ Sinan Samil Sam weighed in at 246 lbs / 111,6 kg for tomorrow's showdown against Oleg Maskaev, who came in at 235,5 lbs / 106,8 kg. The fight is also a WBC eliminator but there is now some confusion regarding the status of it after Vitali Klitschko's sudden retirement and the crowning of Hasim Rahman.. No-one I talked to seemed to be sure on if this was a final eliminator or will be part of an announced tournament (something Sam's promoter Sauerland Event does not seem so happy about).

EBU 160 lb champ Sebastian Sylvester came in at 158,25 lbs / 71,8 kg for his defence against Italian challenger Lorenzo Di Giacomo, 159,25 / 72,2.

Alexander Sipos, 69,8 /154, takes on Frenchman Jimmy Colas, 152,5 / 69,2 for the vacant EU jr middleweight crown in the third titlefight on the fight bill.

The show kicks off already at 5.50 PM and the first fight, a heavyweight clash between Russian Alexander Povetkin, 226,5, and Canadian Stephane Tessier, 234, will be shown live on ARD as part of their sports show that is normally reserved for soccer. In case of an early ending jr middles Sylvain Gomis and Alexander Abraham will fill out the time. There will then be a short break and then the remainder of the show will take place with the main bouts televised live on ARD beginning at 10.30 PM.

The rules meeting, conducted in Spanish, Italian and English went smooth - with the usual confusion about the WBC cut eye rules but at the end all concerned signed a paper that everything was allright. WBC vice-president Ruben Martinez made it clear that no protests at ringside would be accepted.
