John vs Marquez confirmed for December 9

07.11.05 - By Harry Summers Jr.: Star matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz was excited to confirm earlier this week that everything is on course for the December 9 showdown between WBA featherweight champion Chris John (36-0-1, 20 KO's), and uncrowned 126lb king Juan Manuel Marquez (44-2-1, 33 KO's)..

"I have met with Nacho Beristain and Jaime Quintana, and they know that when I am involved in a fight they will be treated fairly," Lewkowicz said. "They have accepted the $31,250 purse, 25 per cent of the purse bid, and have agreed to fight on December 9 in Indonesia.

"I thank Craig Christian for the opportunity to work with MTM [Promotions] and am very proud to bring this fight to Indonesia. I believe this will be the biggest fight in Indonesian boxing history, and it will also grab the attention of the biggest networks in the states, HBO and Showtime. It's the defining fight for Chris John. He very clearly beat "Smoke" Gainer, and also [Oscar] Leon, and now gets a shot to rise once more against Marquez."

Lewkowicz also announced a cracking featherweight co-feature, pitting John's stablemate Gairy St. Clair against rugged Mexican Orlando Salido in an IBF title eliminator.

In the next week he will be revealing yet another featherweight contest for the card between two leading contenders/prospects, making this show a true cavalcade of 126lb talent.
