Angelo Upsets Ng!

11.09.05 - By Tony Nobbs: In an exciting contest unrated Sonni Michael Angelo scored a unanimous ten round decision over Australian number three contender Stephen Ng to claim the WBF Asia - Pacific middleweight title at the Southport RSL on the Gold Coast, Queensland on Friday night. The aggressive Angelo took the fight up all night and scored three knockdowns of the current Qld state champion before finally prevailing by tallies of 98-91, 96-92 and 96-93.

In a wild second round both fighters hit the deck and Ng also was dropped by hard shots in the third and fourth heats.

Angelo, 20, was born in The Congo and has been based on the NSW border town of Tweed Heads since August 31st (the day he accepted this fight) having previously trained with former world rated light heavyweight Bruce Farthing in Sydney. His record now reads 6-2, 4 knockouts. He is promoted by Jamie Myer.

In under card bouts, improving heavyweight Baden Oui outpointed Ben Crowe. Oui, trained by former Australian 11 stone champion Gavin Topp, is set to challenge Mark Alexander for the State title at Gympie on September 23.

Promising Isreal Kani kept his unbeaten record (now 4-0) intact clearly out-scoring state jnr middle champ Matt Burns over six at super middleweight.

Brian Fogarty scored a first round stoppage of Michael Rivetti at welterweight, trial horse William Hadlow scored a three round stoppage of debutant Steve Tierman at super middle and Les ‘Diamond’ Piper drew with Jiy Russell in a light heavyweight four rounder.
