Dimitrenko to fight Bean on Brewster-Krasniqi undercard
07.09.05 – A very interesting heavyweight fight has been added to the undercard of the event on September 28 which features the WBO heavyweight championship between Lamon Brewster and Luan Krasniqi in the main event. Alexander Dimitrenko, 19-0 (12), a 23-year-old heavyweight prospect of the Universum stable, will face two-time world title challenger Vaughn Bean, 45-5 (34), in his 20th professional contest.
Bean failed to lift portions of the world title against Michael Moorer in 1997 and against Evander Holyfield in 1998. Each time he lost a close or competitive decision. The only man to defeat Bean inside the distance became Vitali Klitschko four years later when he stopped the short and durable man from Chicago in round eleven.
Two fights ago the 31-year-old Bean took on Cuban Yanqui Diaz, single conqueror of former cruisererweight champion Juan Carlos Gomez, and was on the unpleasant end of a close split decision again.
IBF Youth champion Dimitrenko will be way taller (2,00m versus 1,83m) but also way less experienced (20 fights versus 50 fights) when takes on the unorthodox Bean in his so far most serious test.
In his most recent fight Dimitrenko knocked out German heavyweight champion Andreas Sidon on July 2 in the second round to lift the WBO and IBF intercontinental titles.
The Brewster-Krasniqi world title event takes place at the huge Color Line Arena of Hamburg. On the day of the event, September 28, 2005, German boxing legend Max Schmeling would have turned 100. He passed away in February at age 99.
