Cotto is looking to exact revenge on Abdullaev, the last man to defeat him, at the 2000 Olympics. Abdullaev is out to prove that their 2000 bout is his blueprint for winning the world title while ruining Cotto’s Madison Square Garden debut.
Cotto-Abdullaev, along with the co-feature, Joel Casamayor vs. "Kid Diamond" in a 12-round WBA-sanctioned lightweight title elimination bout, will be televised live on HBO's "Boxing After Dark," beginning at 10 P.M. This marks the first time in its nine year history that "Boxing After Dark" has ever played the big arena at Madison Square Garden, a true testament to the popularity and drawing power of Cotto.
