News: Maddalone vs. Tyson Fury on July 7th; Fortuna-Cruz on 7/6
London (June, 15) Vinny Maddalone, the Italian Stallion from New York, will be travelling to the UK and has told fans "Don't Blink" as he's looking to be the first to beat the 6ft 9inch Irish Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, when the pair square off at the Hand Arena, Clevedon, Somerset on Saturday 7th July.
Article posted on 15.06.2012
The 12 round international heavyweight contest promoted by Hennessy Sports in association with Sanigar Events and Joe
DeGuardia's Star Boxing will be broadcast live on Channel 5, in the UK.
Maddalone who boasts 35 wins out of 43 fights, with 26 of these coming by way of knockout, has previously fought elite fighters Evander Holyfield, Tomasz Adamek,
Jean Marc Mormeck and Denis Boytsov and is looking forward to making his UK debut against Irish Champion, Fury on 7th July. " I'm Looking forward to fighting in England." said Maddalone "The Brits may be rooting for him in the beginning but I guarantee they will be cheering for me by the end of the night."
The real life Rocky Balboa was recently described by America writer Jack Hirsch in a recent article in Boxing News, as being one of the most exciting fighters in boxing right now."Perhaps the pound-for-pound lists have it all wrong. Instead of rating the best fighters, maybe the public would be better served if they listed the most exciting. Vinny Maddalone would top that heap."
Vinny said "I promise to give everything I've got-the Brits are going to experience one hell of a fight and I plan on making lots of new fans."
Tyson Fury who is currently in training camp in Essen, Belgium said "He's a good opponent, a real tough guy, who leaves nothing in the changing room, he certainly comes to fight!
Training has gone well and I'm in the best shape of my life and I'm looking forward to some good rounds and after I beat him maybe we can go out and get something to eat."
Vinny Maddalone added, "I respect Tyson Fury, hats off because he shows lots of balls. I'm really happy for this opportunity. Two guys with balls will make for a great fight."
Michael Borao of Borao Entertainment (Vinny's Agent) said "Vinny is a real life Rocky-British fans are in for a real treat."
The President of Star Boxing, Joe DeGuardia said "Fury-Maddalone should be a slugfest. Vinny is like the fictional 'Rocky' and has the heart of a lion. The fans are in for a treat with this exciting fight and I congratulate Hennessy Sports and Channel 5 for giving the fans in Britain a fight that promises to be a war."
Supporting Tyson Fury vs. Vinny Maddalone in front of a 3,000 strong crowd at the Hand Arena, will be middleweight sensation Chris Eubank Jnr in his 5th pro fight and British champion Lee Haskins from Bristol, who is challenging Darlington's former British champion Stuart Hall for the vacant European Bantamweight title.
The undercard will also feature former British Light welterweight champion Lenny Daws vs. Bridgewater's Dean Mills, Tyson's cousin Phill Fury, Bristol fighters Michael Graydon and Ricky Pow, Steve Bodger from Weston Super-Mare and Tamuka Mucha from Reading.
And making his UK debut will be the Hennessy Sports promoted Canadian Welterweight Champion Samuel Vargas.

JAVIER FORTUNA AND CRISTOBAL CRUZ STEP INTO MAIN EVENT OF "THE MOMENT OF TRUTH" JULY 6 AT HARD ROCK HOTEL & CASINO IN LAS VEGAS AND LIVE ON ESPN FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS
Red-hot featherweight prospect Javier "El Abejon" Fortuna (19-0, 14 KOs) of La Romana, Dominican Republic, will step in to face former International Boxing Federation (IBF) Featherweight Champion Cristobal "Lacandón" Cruz (39-13, 23 KOs) of Chiapas, Mexico, on Friday, July 6, at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, and televised live on ESPN Friday Night Fights.
An injury to original main event participant Marvin Sonsona left an opening on the Sampson Boxing and Greg Cohen Promotions show entitled "The Moment of Truth", which Fortuna and Cruz have eagerly jumped in to fill.
"This fight could not have been made without the wonderful assistance of Art Pellulo of Banner Promotions," said an excited Sampson Lewkowicz. "We are having a show called The Moment of Truth and now it truly will be for Javier Fortuna. We are going to see what he can do with a world-class fighter like Cristobal Cruz, who was already in shape for a fight on the 20th. This is going to be a fantastic main event."
In the televised co-feature that night, Russian heavyweight power puncher Magomed "Mago" Abdusalamov (14-0, 14 KOs) will defend his WBC United States (USNBC) Silver Heavyweight Championship in a 10-round battle against fellow up-and-coming heavyweight Maurice "Freight Train" Byarm (13-1-1, 9 KOs).
22-year-old southpaw Fortuna's previous fight was also on Friday Night Fights, when he demolished the talented Yuandale Evans in 2:02 of the first round. Beating Cruz, however, will be a calling card to the world that Fortuna is a force at the very top of the division.
In his last four fights, Cruz has had two technical draws and dropped close decisions to Orlando Salido, the man from whom he took the title and current WBC Silver Featherweight Champion Juan Carlos Burgos. A victory over Fortuna will propel him right back into the world picture.
31-year-old Magomed Abdusalamov was born in Makhachkala, Russia, but now lives and trains in Oxnard, California.
Abdusalamov was the 2005 and 2006 Russian Amateur Champion at super heavyweight before turning professional in 2008. He is the current WBC United States (USNBC) Silver Heavyweight Champion, having won the title by TKO 4 over formerly undefeated Jason Pettaway in March.
29-year-old southpaw heavyweight Maurice Byarm lives in Washington, DC, and was born in Philadelphia.
Byarm is the son of Lionel Byarm, a professional fighter who most notably fought the legendary Evander Holyfield on the 1984 US Olympian card. He was undefeated as a professional until his last fight, a decision loss to fellow Philadelphian Bryant Jennings in January of this year.
Headlining the undercard, popular heavyweight and current interim PABA Heavyweight Champion "Bronco" Billy Wright (37-4, 28 KOs) will continue his successful comeback in a 10-round bout.
Also scheduled to fight six-round bouts are Las Vegas, via Puerto Rico, super middleweight Carlos De Leon Jr (21-3-2, 14 KOs); Las Vegas via Accra, Ghana, middleweight KO artist Bastie Samir (10-0-1, 10 KOs); and undefeated Las Vegas featherweight Rocco Santomauro (8-0).
Scheduled for a four-rounder is Jackson, Michigan, cruiserweight William "Lil' Tyson" Williams (5-2-1, 4 KOs).
Tickets for "The Moment of Truth" are priced at $29 general admission, $60 reserved, $100 ringside and $200 VIP and are available at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino box office daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and through Ticketmaster, either by calling 702-474-4000 or 800-745-3000, or by going online at ticketmaster.com.
On fight night, doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the event starts at 5:30 p.m.
All bouts are subject to change.
