Enzo Maccarinelli Pulls Out Of Shane McPhilbin Return With Injured Hand - McPhilbin “Gutted”

By James Slater - The curse of the postponed fight strikes again! Big-punching Enzo Maccarinelli has reportedly injured a hand in training camp ahead of his British Boxing Board-ordered rematch with former British cruiserweight champ Shane McPhilbin and has had to pull out of the rematch that was scheduled for June 22nd..
As reported by, Carl Greaves, manager of McPhilbin, said the return must now happen no later than September.

“I’m gutted because we were hard done by in the first place,” Greaves said. “I was only talking to Enzo in Newport the other day. But then I got a call saying he had busted his hand and the fight was off. I don’t know how bad it is. But the fight must go ahead by September. If he’s not fit he’ll have to relinquish and Shane will fight for the vacant belt.”

Hopefully Maccarinelli, the former WBO cruiserweight champ, will heal up and be able to box in September.

Back in March of this year, controversy erupted in the first Maccarinelli-McPhilbin fight when the defending British champ decked the suspect-chinned Welshman in the opening round; only for the timekeeper to then ring the bell and end the round a full 47-seconds too early. Would “Big Macc” have survived the round had it been permitted to go on for its full three-minutes? Maccarinelli, 35-5(27) managed to regroup and win a 12-round decision. But as soon as the fight was over with, fans everywhere pointed to that short opening round.

In the interest of fairness, the return was ordered. Now, McPhilbin, 8-3(5) is left wondering whether or not he will actually get his second chance against Maccarinelli.
