Powell Saves The Day

12.04.05 - After a hectic 48-hours Sports Network Matchmaker Dean Powell has managed to save two shows after the main event in both cases fell-out. First of all, British Welterweight Champion David Barnes had to be drafted in to headline the Fight Skool show at the Barnsley Metrodome on Friday 22 April replacing stablemate Michael Jennings after he withdrew because of an elbow injury.

Jenning's was due to defend his English Welterweight title against Chesterfield's Gavin Down but injured his elbow during a training session. A new date for this fight will be announced shortly.

Instead, all-action Barnes will aim to become a double-champion by adding the Commonwealth title currently held by tough Ghanaian Joshua Okine.

Powell then saw the Martin Power v Dale Robinson Vacant British Bantamweight title clash on Friday 29 April at the Elephant and Castle fall through after Power's injured his back.

With a tremendous task ahead of him to replace the Power-Robinson showdown, Powell then put on a cracking Southern Area Welterweight title fight between Chas 'The Bomb' Symonds and Ross Minter for the Fight Skool show.

Symonds, the flash champion from Croydon, and Minter, a sold pro from Crawley and son of former World Middleweight Champion Alan, is expected to be a real war and rank amongst the great Southern Area Welterweight championship contest such as Trevor Smith v Ian John Lewis, Rocky Kelly v David Dent and Chris Sanigar v Sid Smith.

The Power-Robinson clash will now take place on Friday 20 May at the Elephant and Castle.

A relieved Powell said, "I am delighted to have replaced the fights that we lost with new ones that are equally as exciting and will give the public their full value for money."
