David Price says hed like to defend his Lonsdale belt three times

By Michael Collins: Undefeated British heavyweight champion David Price (13-0, 11 KOs) is talking about wanting to defend his newly won Lonsdale belt a minimum of three times so that he can keep it and give it to his kids before moving up against better opposition. Its unclear if the 28-year-old Price will do exactly that or if hell give up on that idea.

Theres really not much more Price can do at the domestic level at this point in his career. If he decides he wants to chew up a year defending a local title like the British strap he just won, Price could be throwing away a year of his career when he should be looking at moving up at least to the European level so that he can take on EBU heavyweight champion Kubrat Pulev or face contender Robert Helenius.

Those should be the fights Price is looking for right now unless he can get British heavyweights Dereck Chisora, David Haye and Tyson Fury to fight him. Those fights arent likely going to happen for Price. Haye and Chisora dont have their licenses with the British Boxing Board of Control, and the chances of them getting them back with them in the near future are slim and none. As for Fury, he already declined a fight with Price, and hes not going to all of a sudden change his mind now that Price has the British heavyweight title in his possession.

Price is about to turn 29, and he can ill afford to sit back and waste a year of his career just so he can defend the Lonsdale strap three times and give it to his kids afterwards. Hed be better off moving his career forward and looking to take on Pulev. That would be an excellent fight and a win over Pulev would push Price into the heavyweight rankings.
