Schaefer Says Khan Could Be Just Two Wins Away From Mega-Fight With “Money” Mayweather

By James Slater: Despite losing to Lamont Peterson in a big upset last time out, Britain’s Amir Khan has not given up hopes of one day facing unbeaten superstar Floyd Mayweather Junior. And Khan could be as close as just two wins away from his dream fight.

Speaking with The Daily Star yesterday, Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer said that if Khan beats Peterson in their May 19th rematch in Las Vegas, the former 140-pound champ will then move up to welterweight and then, if all goes well, face “Money May” after that.

“Assuming all goes well and he wins against Peterson, he then moves up to welterweight,” Schaefer said of Khan. “But I am not so sure if the first fight will be against Floyd, because at that weight it may not be the smartest thing to do. In a perfect world, I’d like Amir to have one fight that that weight before fighting May weather - but of that fight presents itself we would discuss it.”

No added pressure on Khan getting revenge over Peterson then! Fans seem split down the middle when it comes to how the eagerly anticipated rematch will go. Some see “Havoc” repeating his points win, others see Khan getting his tactics right this time and either winning a wide decision or maybe even scoring a KO. One thing is sure: Khan had better be 100-percent focused on Peterson, and not thinking about a rich fight with “Money.”

Some people believe Khan underestimated/looked past Peterson last December, and lost his belts as a result. You can rest assured Peterson, looked after by the no-nonsense Barry Hunter, will be sleeping, eating, breathing and thinking about nothing but Amir Khan.

The May 19th winner could be in a position to earn millions.
