Edner Cherry faces Juan Carlos Martinez on Saturday; WBO announces referee & judges for Marquez vs. Fedchenko
(Winter Haven, FL) Former World Title Challenger, Edner “Cherry Bomb” Cherry headlines “Solo Boxeo Live,” Saturday, April 14th at Cicero Stadium in Cicero, IL. Cherry 29-6-2, (16 KO’s) will meet Juan Carlos Martinez in the 10 round main event. The bout will be broadcast live (11:00 pm EST) on Telefutura and is presented by Warriors Boxing and 8 Count Productions.

This will be Cherry’s second outing in less than two months. Cherry won an 8 round unanimous decision over Guillermo Sanchez on February 24th.
The 30-year-old Martinez, 19-13-1 (7KO’s), is based in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
Martinez’ eight-year career includes wins over former world title challenger Bernabe Concepcion, world ranked contender Jose Hernandez, and current world champion Antonio DeMarco, former world champion Guty Espadas Jr., and top ten rated contenders Mikey Garcia, Eloy Perez and Juan Carlos Burgos.
Cherry, Wauchula, FL, is riding a 5-fight (4 KO’s) win streak, since losing a title bid against Timothy Bradley at 140 pounds. Cherry has locked-horns with some of the elite 140 & 135 pounders, including Stevie Johnson, Ricky Quiles, Jose Armando Santa Cruz and Paul Malignaggi.
“Edner is spot-on,” said Cherry’s trainer, Tony Morgan. We’ve had great sparring and spent the last 5 weeks working on sharpening and refining his skills. He’s on-weight and, as always, in great condition,” Morgan concluded, from his Winter Haven, FL gym.

WBO ANNOUNCES REFEREE AND JUDGES FOR SATURDAY, APRIL 14, MARQUEZ-FEDCHENKO TITLE BOUT
SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO- World Boxing Organization (WBO), by president Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel, announced today the referee and judges who will work on the world title bout between Juan Manuel Marquez and Sergey Fedchenko to be held this Saturday, April 14, at the New Mexico City Arena, Mexico City, Mexico, in a Promociones Zanfer and Top Rank presentation.
Valcarcel reported that for the WBO Interim Junior Welterweight title fight between Marquez (53-6-1, 39 KOs) and Fedchenko (30-1 13 KOs), the referee will be Benjy Esteves, from United States.
The judges for the Marquez-Fedchenko bout are Steven Weisfeld, from United States, Alejandro Lopez-Cid, from Mexico, and Rafael Isenia, from Dominican Republic. WBO supervisor for this bout will be presidente, Valcarcel.
Marquez, a former world champion in 126, 130 and 135 pounds, is the WBO #1 ranked in the junior welter, while Fedchenko is ranked now #4. The WBO 140lb champion is Timothy Bradley.

Wilson (12-5-1, 6 KO’s) & Taylor (20-1-2, 7 KO’s) battled to highly contested draw on September 11, 2010. That bout set off a impressive five bout unbeaten streak for Wilson in which he beat some of the best Cruiserweights in America such as Aaron Williams (20-2-1); Four-time world title challenger Omar Sheika (30-10); Chuck Mussachio (17-1-2) and Pedro Martinez (6-4). The Sheika win was for the USBA title.
Like Wilson, Taylor has won four straight since the draw which includes his last bout when he scored an eight round unanimous decision over Gary Gomez.
After Wilson and Taylor duke it out, the panel will be joined by Lightweight prospect Osnel “Prince” Charles. The personable Charles (9-2, 1 KO) will take part in the co-feature when he meets Detroit’s Christopher Finley.
