Kell Brook W12 Matthew Hatton - Hatton Shows Heart, Brook Shows Sheer Class
By James Slater: Tonight in Sheffield, before a massive 10,000 audience, unbeaten welterweight star Kell Brook won a wide, at times hugely impressive 12-round points win over a courageous, always game Matthew Hatton. The Ingle-trained boxer known as “The Special One” won by commanding scores of 119-108, 119-107 and 118-109.

Brook is now 27-0(18). Hatton is now 42-6-2(16).
Brook looked a class act from the start, bloodying Hatton’s nose, marking his face up and even hitting him at will at times. So much faster and more powerful than the gutsy Manchester warrior, Brook also looked that much the naturally bigger man. Brook really is a huge 147-pounder.
By the middle rounds, it looked like Brook might get the stoppage, as he was going through the gears, hurting Hatton and having the ref have a closer look at his combinations. Brook’s right hand to the head was an especially telling blow. Yet Hatton, who was so up for tonight’s big fight, refused to be overwhelmed. Down in the 9th, Hatton showed real passion as he had fleeting moments of success of his own. At times, the two men tested each other’s chin; Brook landing the far heavier, more consistent work.
Hatton scored something of a moral victory by making it to the final bell, yet this will not have been anywhere near enough for the proud man.
Brook? He looks like a future world champion the way he’s going. Fights between the Sheffield star and the likes of Andre Berto, Victor Ortiz or even Amir Khan would be hugely interesting.
