Taras Bidenko To Battle Vladimir Virchis In Hamburg Today

28.03.05 - Two top ranked Ukrainian heavyweight contenders will go to war today in Hamburg, Germany, when Spotlight promoted Taras Bidenko, 14-1 (9), takes on Vladimir Virchis, 16-0 (14).The fight headlines an event of Spotlight Boxing at Wandsbeker Sporthalle. The 31-year-old Virchis scored solid victories in his last three contests for the IBF intercontinental belt: He decisioned Julius Francis over twelve rounds and knocked out Universum promoted Russian Balu Sauer as well as American Cliff Couser.

The 6 years younger Taras Bidenko is regarded as a top prospect in Europe and last stopped his Rumanian stable mate Konstantin Onofrei in round 7 in Sölden, Austria. Bidenko’s single defeat came against Russian giant Nicolay Valuev against who he lost a controversial twelve round decision in 2002 in his only 4th professional contest.
