Dibella hinting at Mayweather-Martinez bout

Floyd MayweatherBy Vitali Shaposhnikov: I assume that the majority of you boxing fans have already read somewhere that Lou DiBella is clearly hinting of a possibility of Floyd Mayweather Jr. facing Sergio Martinez in the event that the Pacquiao fight with Mayweather Jr. does not come to fruition.

According to various sources, DiBella stated that during his conversation with the Mayweather Jr. representatives, they touched on the idea of Floyd and Sergio, and seemed interested.

To tell you the truth, in terms of Mayweather Jr., I not only think that this fight has a bigger chance of actually happening, but I also truly believe that it would be more entertaining as well as competitive than a fight against Pacquiao.

Martinez is a good fighter with a big heart, and would do much better against Mayweather Jr. than Pacquiao would. The main difference is that he can fight tall, while Pacquiao likes to minimize his stance.

Mayweather’s superb ability to fight at a distance and pick his shots will be the cause for havoc for Pacquiao. Most believe that Pacquiao’s volume will win him the fight, but personally, I think that his volume is the very thing that will be the main cause for his loss.

This is only my own opinion, and is unlikely to reflect what most others have in mind. If it is indeed true, and Martinez would be the replacement for Pacquiao if their fight falls through with Mayweather Jr., than all of the sudden, I feel much more at ease and am that much less eager to waste more time on the Pacquaio vs. Mayweather Jr. coverage!
