Firtha defeats Thompson

6'6, 250 pound heavyweight fringe contender Nick "The Stoneman" Firtha (20-8) scored his 20th pro win Saturday night via a unanimous decision over Ross Thompson (27-16) at Cene Park in Struthers, Ohio. Scoring a knockdown in round two, Firtha used superior skills as well as a significant size advantage to dismantle the game but outgunned Thompson.

Scores were 59-53 and 59-54 twice. A winner of four of his last five including an NABA title KO versus Tony Grano (18-2), Firtha rebounded from his only loss during the stretch which was a competitive 10 decision at the hands upcoming WBA title challenger, Alexander Povetkin (21-0). With the victory, Firtha hopes to again compete with the elite of the heavyweight division.
