Amir Khan to face Lamont Peterson

By Dan Jamson: Amir Khan has been booked in at the MEN Arena on April 16th and is almost certainly going to fight Lamont Peterson for Khans WBA 140lb title.

This seems to be a good match for Khan. Peterson is a top 10 ranked fighter at light-welterweight and he brings in experience of fighting a few of the other top guys at 140. Peterson doesn’t have that big KO punch that Khan would need to be wary of despite his exploits against Marcos Maidana putting some of those questions to bed. Peterson himself has been on the canvas 3 times in his last 3 fights, each time rising to finish the contest but he certainly is not iron chinned.

Khan will use his natural speed and power to pick of Peterson all night. Lamont is a good fighter but seems to be lack any great weapon. I expect Khan to stop Peterson late or take a very lopsided points decision.

The fight is correctly seen by many as a homecoming / tune up for a contest with the winner of the Timothy Bradley vs. Devon Alexander fight at the end of the month. A big fight in the fall will provide an undisputed champion at 140 lbs and will leave the victor in a strong position to negotiate big money fights with the P4P kings in the divisions above.
