Friday Night Fights Hit Houston Texas; Scale Watch For Showdown Tomorrow Night!

20.01.05 - By Carlos Kalinchuk: This afternoon ESPN in association with Miller Brewing Company and Main Events, filled in the last remaining square before the fighters step in the ring tomorrow night at the Reliant Arena in Houston Texas. In a room that was meant to accommodate 25 people comfortably, it looked as though over triple that amount showed up for what is expected to be this biggest fight card in Houston thus far..

Juan Diaz had to re-weigh in after he barely missed the contracted weight of 135 lbs by coming in at 135.5 lbs. He eventually made weight well before the two-hour deadline of 6 PM CST.

If you haven’t purchased your tickets yet, you’re in luck because tickets are still available. Ringside seating is moving fast though so if your looking for prime seating act now by going to www.ticketmaster.com All other tickets are still available for only $50 and $25. Tickets can also be purchase at all ticketmaster outlets or by going by the Reliant Arena box office. Doors open at 6pm and the first bell rings at 6:30 pm. Besides the main event of Diaz and Irwin, undefeated Heavyweight Calvin Brock and Clifford Etienne will be featured as the co-main event.

*Juan “El Torito” Diaz 26-0 (12 KO’s) Vs. Billy Irwin 42-5 (30 KO’s)




Initially Lightweight Juan Diaz weighed in at 135 ½, while Billy Irwin weighed in at 135. Juan returned shortly afterwards and made the weight easily. This fight is scheduled for 12 rounds and is for Juan Diaz’s WBA Lightweight title.

* Heavyweight Calvin Brock (23-0, 19 KO’s) Vs. Clifford Etienne (29-2-2, 20 KO’s)


Brock weighed in at 226 and Etienne weighed in at 223. This fight is scheduled for 10 rounds.

*Jr. Lightweight Benjamin Flores 7-0 (2 KO’s) Vs. Thomas Villa 9-4-3 (4 KO’s)


Both weighed in at the 127lb limit. This fight is scheduled for 6 rounds.

**Raul Martinez 5-0 (5 KO’s) Vs. Leonard Martinez 21-17-1 (8 KO’s)

Martinez weighed in at 117 and his opponent weighed in at 116. This fight is for 4 or 6 rounds depending on TV time available.

*Juan’s brother Jose Diaz 5-0 (2 KO’s) Vs. Bryan Garcia 7-11 (2 KO’s)

Diaz weighed in at 125 while Garcia weighed in at 128 ½ lbs 3 ½ lbs over the limit. This fight is scheduled for six rounds.

*Cesar Garcia 10-0 (6 KO’s) Vs. Larry Gonzalez 6-0 (2 KO’s) are fighting for the Miller Lite Texas Title Belt in an eight rounder.

Garcia weighed in at 135lbs while Gonzalez weighed in 6 1/2lbs over the limit. He was given until 6 PM to lose 6 ½ lbs.

*Akondayne Fountain 3-0 (1 KO) Vs. Krystle Davis (Pro-debut).

Fountain weighed in at 168lbs and Davis weighed in at 175lbs. Although she was over by 6lbs, Fountain agreed to fight her anyway.

*Chris Tamayo (Pro-debut) Vs. Rafael Torres 0-7

Tamayo weighed in at 131 and Torres weighed in at 125 ½.
