Belfast’s Tony Nellins planning to liven up Kings Hall under card on his pro debut

By Brendan Galbraith - Belfast Light welterweight Tony Nellins [on left of photo with gym mate Luke Wilton] will make his pro debut tonight at the iconic Kings Hall, Belfast on the under card of Lindsay-Simpson. Nellins (whose birth name is Mills) has sold plenty of tickets and under the tutelage of experienced trainer, Alan Wilton is hoping to put on a show in front of is home support. “I done well as an amateur I won the Boys Clubs and I won the Antrim’s as well,” said Nellins at the press conference last week. “And I just hope to get in there on my pro debut and make an impression in front of the Belfast crowd. I don’t know much about him [opponent Jason Carr 1-7] I just want to get in and do the business and come out a winner..

Trainer, Alan Wilton explained Nellins fighting credentials:

“He can bang with both hands and is a very strong kid, he boxed for me [at Eastside ABC] as an amateur and won a few titles – the Antrim’s and Boy’s Club and stopped a few kids. Then he boxed for the army and now he is turning pro. He is a good, strong pro and hopefully he will make an impression on his pro debut.”

“He would fights a bit Tyson, he just comes in and is on her face, smothers you and punches you the living daylights of you – he is all over you - that is just the way he boxes. He just comes in and wants to rough you up and take you right out.”

“The pro game will suit him, he is an in-your-face come forward fighter and he will not let the fans down – he will give them their money’s worth and please God he gets off to a good start.”

Nellins was in England sparring with Steve Goodwin’s stable of fighters and he has returned to finish his training camp at Wilton’s Eastside ABC in East Belfast, sparring Luke Wilton, Mike Harvey and has got rounds in several of Belfast trainer, Paul McCullough’s fighters.

At yesterday’s weigh in Tony Nellins came in at 10 stone 2 Ilb 14oz and his opponent Jason Carr was 10 stone 4 Ilb 8oz.
