ESPN Friday Night Fights Post Fight Thoughts: Lemieux makes a statement!

By Alan J Kindred: David Lemieux 23-0 (22) violently announced himself as a contender for the middleweight championship dispatching former title challenger Elvin Ayala 20-5-1 (9) in less than a round. Lemieux displayed his inside style reminiscent of a Joe Frazier type of style with huge power and short punches and it was to much for Ayala. I said earlier in my preview it would be a surprise if Lemieux would stop Ayala early and he did just that. Lemieux at 21 years old has a bright future ahead of him. With lots of intriguing match ups in the 160 and 168 lbs weight classes I'm sure we will be seeing this young new star on the rise in many great fights.

In another surprise Brian Vera 17-4 (11) pulled a mild upset against the Canadian favorite and former world title challenger Sebastien Demers 31-3 (11).. The fight was rough and tumble while it lasted and played into the tough Vera's hands as Demers instead of boxing seemed to want to go toe to toe. In the third round Vera landed some good power punches and Demers was knocked down hard. He got up on unsteady legs only to be knowcked down twice more ending it. Vera like Arthur Abraham has stopped Demers in the third round.

Also on the televised card Tony Luis 9-0 (3) stopped experienced Adrian Valdez 19-8 (11) in the fifth round of a lightweight bout.

19 year old Kevin Lavellee in his pro debut scored a first round KO over journeyman Carlos Martinez 5-7 (3) in a Jr. Lightweight bout. It appeared Lavellee broke Martinez nose.
