Markussen: “I am ready” – Nisse Sauerland: “Rudy will knock Karagoz out”

Rudy Markussen today gave a taste of his famed and feared punching power during a public work-out in Herning. The former European Super-Middleweight Champion headlines the first-ever TV 2 Fight Night on Saturday when he comes face-to-face with Frenchman Christophe Karagoz. “I am in great shape,” Markussen stated. “I have trained very hard and very long for the comeback. I am ready and I am really eager to get back into the ring.”

Mikkel Kessler, Arthur Abraham and Sven Ottke are among those who have most recently lauded Markussen´s punching power, and the 32-year-old has vowed not to disappoint his big fanbase that expects a strong performance. “I am the hardest-punching fighter at super-middleweight. I have broken my hand so many times because I punch so hard. During my ring break I have learned some new things about power when conducting my physical training. So the fans will see a new, even more powerful Rudy Markussen on Saturday night.” And he added: “The key for a victory will be superior boxing skills, speed and power.”

Meanwhile, promoter Nisse Sauerland expects “fireworks” from Markussen. “I am sure he will kick off the TV 2 Fight Night Series in style,” Sauerland said. “He has incredibly strong arms and Christophe Karagoz is about to find out what that means. I expect Rudy to overpower his opponent and knock him out in the later rounds.”

On a sidenote, Markussen will be fighting with an Austrian license after a compromise between Team Sauerland, the Austrian Boxing Federation (FVA) and the Danish Professional Boxing Federation (DPBF). While the DPBF will supervise the undercard fights, the FVA will supervise the Markussen-Karagoz bout. “We are pleased to have sorted out all details and look forward to an exciting night,” Nisse Sauerland added.

TV 2 start their broadcast at 21:20h on Saturday night, screening Patrick Nielsen´s clash with tough Hungarian Janos Varga. The gifted middleweight, who trains with Mikkel Kessler, is seeking his fifth win in as many fights. “I am in great shape and I will beat Varga,” he said. After the main fight between Markussen and Karagoz, lightweight Kim Poulsen´s fight against Zsolt Nagy will also be screened live.

Garone Inks "Donnie Boy" Orr to a Promotional Agreement

Nick Garone and X-Cel Worldwide are proud to announce the signing of undefeated middleweight and former Canadian Olympian Donald "Donnie Boy" Orr (15-0, 6 KOs) to a promotional agreement.

"Donnie Orr is a future world champion and we're delighted he has chosen to join our stable at X-Cel Worldwide," said a happy Garone. "Niagara Falls (where Garone does many of his shows) is right on the border with his home country of Canada, so we're sure we'll see plenty of his countrymen out to support him. Donnie is the kind of tough kid that boxing fans all over the world fall in love with."

Irish Canadian Donnie Orr had one of the most remarkable amateur careers of any fighter ever to come out of British Columbia, Canada, finishing with a record 137-11. He began training at age nine and went on to win the Emerald Gloves, the Silver Gloves, the Golden Gloves, the Diamond Belt, the BC Provincials, the Road To The Commonwealth Championships, the prestigious Blue and Gold Tournament (and was selected as the tournament's Best Boxer out of 320 fighters), the Canadian Nationals, and placed fifth at the World Championships as Team Canada's captain.

To qualify for the Olympics, he defeated Mariano Carrera of Argentina (who would go on to win the WBA World Title as a pro), and then slick Dominican Republic fighter Jerson Ravelo in a performance that the press called 'one of the gutsiest in Canadian boxing history'.

Since turning pro, Orr headlined a show in Las Vegas at The Orleans Casino and followed that up with an entertaining Versus Network-televised win over Washington State Middleweight Champion Enrique Gallegos. The fight was named `Fight of the Night` by the commentators.

Orr is currently located in Phoenix, where he works and trains under Andy Soto at LA Boxing. His debut fighting under the X-Cel promotional banner will be announced soon
