28.11.03 - By Keith Terceira: We reported to you on November 14th that Markus Beyers supposed eye infection was worse than originally thought. Consequently the possibility that an interim title bout may take place between Eric Lucas (36-5-3) and Danny Green (17-1) . Saturday during an Interbox news conference, promoter Yvon Michel and Eric Lucas announced that the fight with Danny Green was on for December 20 at the Bell Centre in Montreal..
The winner will face Markus Beyer on February 28th in Germany. Sources close to Beyer have confirmed that February may be a little optimistic. After the fiascos in Germany this year in the matter of judging it may work to the winner of Lucas/Green that the championship with Beyer gets postponed.
The controversy surrounding both the Green and Lucas title bouts in Germany was so bad that the WBC at the Moscow convention ordered Beyer to defend his title against Lucas with the winner to fight Green 90 days later.
Whatever the future may bring with Beyer, the real championship in many fans opinions is between Eric Lucas and Danny Green anyway. Unfortunately, Sean Sullivan, who was in training to fight Green in Australia will have to wait until a later date.
Problem with this new scenario is that 60 days may not be enough for the winner or the loser of the interim fight to recover before facing Markus. It has all the makings of a classic brawl and could turn into a fight of the year candidate.
