R.I.P. Lorraine Chargin

With deep sadness and sorrow, the World Boxing Council informs of the passing away of a woman who had been the great lady of boxing since half a century ago, Lorraine Chargin, the wife of promoter and our good friend Don Chargin. The WBC declares world mourning in our sport due to the passing away of this distinguished woman, who left her name deeply placed in the history of world boxing, especially in California. We are sending our deepest condolences, and we truly hope our friend Don Chargin resigns himself to such a terrible loss very soon.

On behalf of all of us at Star Boxing, I would like to send my deepest condolences to Hall-of-Fame Boxing Promoter, Don Chargin, who lost his wife of 49 years today to cancer. Lorraine has been a very significant figure in the boxing world for many years and her presence in our community will surely be missed. Lost but most certainly not forgotten, our thoughts and prayers are with Lorraine. May she rest in peace.

Sincerely, Joe DeGuardia, President

LOS ANGELES, CA (April 7, 2010) - Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) is deeply saddened by the passing of our friend Lorraine Chargin on April 6. GBP had an extremely close working and personal relationship with Lorraine and her husband Don. Both Lorraine and Don were instrumental in building Golden Boy Promotions to where it is today through their invaluable advice and guidance with respect to all aspects of fight promotion. Their expert input on matchmaking decisions was instrumental during the formative years of GBP.

Lorraine was referred to as the First Lady of Boxing as a result of her tireless work in the sport for forty-plus years. She was the backbone of Don Chargin Productions and a true testament to the saying "behind every great man there is a great woman." The love and bond between Lorraine and Don and the sport of boxing was a positive beacon for everyone in the business and will be greatly missed by all of us.

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of Lorraine Chargin," said Oscar de la Hoya, president of Golden Boy Promotions. "We have always respected the relationship that Don and Lorraine had with each other and believe that everyone in boxing can learn from what they have accomplished together and in the sport. Lorraine was a woman of integrity who had a tremendous heart and loved the world she lived in. We will miss her and send our condolences to Don and the entire Chargin family, who are in our prayers during this difficult time."

Lorraine Chargin Rest in Peace

From The Desk Of: Jeff Grmoja, Vice President

On behalf of me and staff we send our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Don Chargin and his family on the loss of our beloved Lorraine. I met the Charginís in San Jose, CA in 1982 and have been blessed with their friendship. Lorraine left us as she lived, with class, dignity and fighting to the end. We share Donís loss, share the pain, share the grief and boxing will miss Lorraine dearly. I think Lorraine would have appreciated these words and thoughts.

OUR TOGETHERNESS - Death is nothing at All. I have only slipped away into the next room. Whatever we were to each other, we still are. Call me by my old familiar name. Speak to me in the same easy way you always have. Laugh as we have always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, and pray for me. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it always was. There is absolute unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of your mind because Iím out of sight? I am but waiting for you. For an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well. Nothing is past, nothing has been lost. One brief moment all will be as it was before, only better. Infinitely Happier. We will be one, together for ever.

With Deepest Sympathy,

Big Jeff
