News: Tomasz Adamek; Derek Ennis; James Todd

This week, Tomasz Adamek, in a letter written to Marian Muhammad, President, International Boxing Federation, formally vacated his IBF Crusierweight Title. Adamek expressed his regret in having to vacate the title and thanked the IBF for the opportunities he was given.

He stated,“ I am not leaving the IBF family. I will be fighting October 24 against Andrew Golota for the IBF International Heavyweight Title in Lodz, Poland. Further, when possible I hope to return to reclaim my IBF Title..

Adamek still holds the Ring Belt Cruiserweight Championship Title.

Toddy looking to take the Title

James “The Sandman” Todd coming off his first career loss in a desperately close fight against amateur superstar Dean Peters Jr has now jumped straight back in at the deep end and been handed an amazing opportunity to fight for the IBA world welterweight title. His opponent is another accomplished amateur and holds an impressive 14-2 record as a professional Mohammed Kayongo. Seconds Out Promoter Tony Grgelko used all his skills as a promoter to give these guys the opportunity. The fight will be over 10 rounds at the National Guard Armory, Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States on the 20th November and will be the co main event with another IBA title fight between Caleb Truax and Carl Daniels. Truax a 13-0 middleweight will also be taking up a step in class but is also a hot favourite to win the belt.

Speaking to Todd regarding the opportunity he said “This is a massive opportunity for me, some people might not take these types of chance so early in their career, but I would not have taken the fight unless I was sure I would take the belt. I feel with my style I suit the longer distance and I plan to become only the second world champion from Swansea and currently the only Welsh champion. I would like to thank Talon Boxing and my trainer John Tandy for believing in me and allowing me to take this fight”

Trainer Tandy says “Toddy is going to create a big shock, many might think it is crazy to put a kid with only 4 fights into a world title fight but he is much more suited to the longer fights, he would have knocked out Peters if he had one more round, and won the fight in many peoples eyes. I am sure he will take this opportunity with both hands and shock the world and Mohammed Kayongo, he will be coming home with the belt.”

Classic battle highlights Power Productions 10th anniversary show at The Legendary Blue Horizon

PHILADELPHIA (OCTOBER 19, 2009)—Derek “Pooh” Ennis captured the USBA Jr. Middleweight title with a thrilling twelve round unanimous decision over Eromosele Albert this past Friday night at The Legendary Blue Horizon.

This memorable bout was the main event of a seven bout card that was part of Greg Robinson’s Power Productions 10th anniversary show.

Ennis of Philadelphia and Albert fought at close quarters for the full thirty-six minute fight and the battle became another Legendary Blue Horizon classic.

The two banged away at each other as Ennis used quick combinations that he divvied up between the body and head while Albert continued to press forward and gave as good as he took.

As the fight ended, ringside media members were split on who should have received the decision but Ennis took it by scores of 116-112; 115-113 and 115-113.

With the win, Ennis wins the USBA belt and will be ranked in the prestigious IBF. Ennis must make one defense and then will be at the top of the line to face IBF champ Cory Spinks.
The co-feature saw Victor Vasquez score a knockdown en-route to a six round unanimous decision over Tyric Robinson in a battle of Philadelphia Jr. Welterweights.

The undercard was not void of action as every fight was competitive as Mario Mina waged war with Tommie “Big Poppa” Speller that saw Mina score a unanimous decision in the four round see-saw Super Middleweight bout.
Coy Evans, Derrick Webster, Rachel Clark and John Mecurio also scored victories in crowd thrilling fashion.
