Crimewatch - Tyson Fury beats John McDermott

By Thomas Newman -

The Tyson Fury roadshow continues at the expense of an extremely unfortunate John McDermott. Referee Terry O'Connor somehow saw the ten round scrap 92-98 in favour of Fury, a decision that many at ringside thought would of been accurate in reverse. The busier and cleaner work of McDermott from the first bell seemed to of done enough to gain a significant points victory over the young but courageously gallant Fury.

The result of O'Connor's decision should not be allowed to detract from what we saw in the ring tonight. On paper the fight looked like a fantastic but yet dangerous step up in opponent for Fury who before this fight had not boxed past four rounds. The fight started brightly and continued until the final bell with McDermott in my mind doing enough to win the bout by four rounds.

So what next for the two fighters? The rematch could be made within three months, something which Fury (now 8 (7) - 0) and promoter Mick Hennessey would be keen to make to prove to the UK and worldwide public that he really has a talent on his hands.

McDermott (now 25-6-2) should push for a rematch in which he should fancy his chances. I doubt that McDermott will be pushing for his serial decision offender O'Connor in the centre of the ring.
