Lawsuit filed against Miguel Cotto

Miguel CottoCAGUAS, PUERTO RICO – The well known trainer and long time manager for the world boxing champion Miguel Cotto, Mr. Evangelista Cotto, filed a claim today against the boxer. The lawsuit is based on Miguel Cotto’s breach of the Management Contract signed by the parties in January of 2001. According to the Complaint, Miguel Cotto owes his uncle and former manager millions of dollars. Additionally, Evangelista Cotto has filed suit based on the tortious acts that occurred in Caguas, Puerto Rico on April 7, 2009, “the day in which Miguel Cotto unjustly and surprisingly punched his uncle and caused him serious physical and emotional damages”.

“This has been a very difficult situation for me and my family. I wouldn’t wish this upon anyone. It is very painful to have to accept that a person that is so close to you for so many years could act like Miguel has acted”, said Evangelista Cotto..

“Many things have been said about the incident and about me that are not true. My hope is that this process will allow the truth to be known”, Evangelista Cotto added.

Evangelista Cotto is being represented by Carlos Dalmau Law Offices. “Evangelista is a good and honest man. This Complaint is well documented and based on the evidence. We have placed our trust in the judicial system,” expressed Mr. Dalmau.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that this is an unfortunate situation. In Puerto Rico, we treasure and honor our boxing champions, which are role models for our youth. We love and support them when they go into the ring. However, we cannot allow them to humiliate and abuse others outside the ring. No one is above the law”, concluded Mr. Dalmau.
