Mike Oliver by Pavel Yakovlev - all photos by Joe Gallo - BOSTON (June 27, 2009) -- click here to view photo gallery -- Mike Oliver (21-2; 7 kayos) and Castullo Gonzalez (9-8; 3 kayos) fought to a no decision tonight at The Roxy Nightclub Boston in a junior featherweight match. The match was stopped at 1:43 of the second round because of a deep cut over Gonzalez’s right eye, judged to be the result of an accidental clash of heads. Until the sudden ending, the fight was fast paced and competitive, with the boxers trading blows at close quarters.

In a supporting bout, highly touted junior welterweight Danny O’Connor won an easy six round decision over Sebastian Hamel. O’Connor (7-0; two kayos) dominated the match with his fluid boxing skill, right jabs, and combination punching. Although Hamel (10-20-1; one kayo) fought competently – he exhibited fast hands and agile boxing ability -- he was barely able to land a blow against his nimble opponent..

Elvin Ayala (20-3-1; nine kayos) stopped Eddie Caminero (5-2; five kayos) at 41 seconds of round three. Caminero was down twice in the third, first from a strong right uppercut, and then again from a left hook-right uppercut combination. Caminero arose from the second knockdown, but was on rubbery legs and the referee stopped the bout.

In a middleweight match, Andrey Nevsky (7-0; four kayos) stopped Roberto Burgess (4-2; two kayos) at 1:23 of round five. A moment before the stoppage, Burgess had been knocked down by an explosive right hook. Burgess arose, but he was out on his feet and his corner threw in the towel. Nevsky weighed 160 lbs.; Burgess weighed 161 lbs. Both fighters are southpaws.
