Cummings, 16-4 (12 KO’s), has never been knocked out, going the distance with former world champions Montell Griffin, Keith Holmes and perennial contender Chris Henry in notable defeats. Davis and Cummings will battle it out over ten rounds for local bragging rights as the Maryland State Super Middleweight crown will be on the line. Kim Poulsen Ready To Face ”The Thunder”!
15.5.2009: Danish lightweight prospect Kim Poulsen (11-1, 2 KOs) will be in with his toughest assignment to date, when he fights Tanzanian power-puncher Obote “The Thunder” Ameme (36-18-2, 29 KOs) on June 19 in Horsens, Denmark. The vacant UBO Intercontinental lightweight title will be on the line, on a show promoted by Risum Boxing in cooperation with Brian Mathiasen Boxing.
22-year-old Poulsen is born and raised in Horsens, and still lives only a few hundred meters from the venue, Sonderbro Kulturhus, where he will battle Ameme (30), a veteran of seven previous title fights of different varieties.
Poulsen is coming off a first-round knockout victory in Germany over Tom Pudler, and has won his last eight fights since a controversial decision cost him his “O” against Frenchman Tony Jourda two years ago, a defeat he has since revenged with a unanimous decision. Ameme is coming off two inside-the-distance victories, and will be confident he can make it three straight against the still inexperienced Dane.
“I feel ready for this challenge, and I will be on top of my game on June 19. It’s a dream coming true for me to fight for a title in Horsens, and the next five weeks will be all about preparing the right way. Luckily I have a trainer, Brian Mathiasen, who has experience from world and European title fights, so he will be guiding me through in the best possible way to win this Intercontinental belt in my hometown. Until June 19, my life will be all about Obote Ameme”, says Poulsen.
“Fightnight Horsens” will feature seven bouts in total, and so far Super Middleweight Fawaz Nasir (13-3, 8 KOs) is pencilled in for the undercard.
