Ronny Rios Wins In San Diego; Abdusalamov Scores 1st Rd KO

LOS ANGELES, CA (March 28, 2009) Sensational junior featherweight prospect Ronny Rios continues to impress Southern California fight fans as he won a four round unanimous decision over Frank Gutierrez on Thursday night at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in San Diego. Fighting in front of a huge crowd, many of whom had made the trip down from Santa Ana to watch their native son, Rios displayed his outstanding array of skills from the opening bell. Peppering Gutierrez with stunning left hooks to the body, Rios showed his ability to punch with powerful, fast hands and use his terrific defense to slip punches..

Dominating the action against the game but outgunned Gutierrez, Rios took home the win by unanimous by scores of 40-36 on all three scorecards raising his record to 4-0-0 (1KO)..

“Ronny’s only 19, but I see in him what I saw in world champions Israel Vazquez and Martin Castillo when they were at similar points. He’s a great young talent who is 100% dedicated to working hard and getting better” said manager Frank Espinoza.

“Each time out Ronny is improving and that’s the key for a young fighter, keep learning, keep progressing. I thought he was going to be able to stop Gutierrez a couple of times but were very happy with the decision win.”

“We’re looking for his next fight; it will probably be in the Los Angeles area in late April or May. He’s becoming a huge draw in the area and we want to put him back in front of the fans again quickly.”

The ESPINOZA BOXING CLUB was started in 1991 by Los Angeles area businessman Frank Espinoza.

Espinoza, born and bred in East Los Angeles, was a huge fan of the sport and eventually went on to establish himself as one of the top managers in the world of boxing.

In 2006, Espinoza was awarded the Manager of the Year award from the World Boxing Hall of Fame and inducted into the California Boxing Hall of Fame.

Espinoza’s management style has earned him numerous accolades from several respected print and internet boxing writers. In the September 2008 issue of Ring Magazine, Espinoza was praised for his outstanding handling of the career of junior featherweight world champion and “Pound for Pound” superstar Israel “EL MAGNIFICO” Vazquez.

Along with managing Vazquez also manages a young squad of talented and promising fighters composed of Luis Ramos, Carlos Molina, Abraham Lopez, Ronny Rios, Manny “Suavecito” Roman and Jesus “Pollo” Hernandez.

Among the world champions Espinoza has managed in the past are Martin “Gallito” Castillo, Enrique Sanchez, Isidro “ Chino ” Garcia and “Mighty” Mike Anchondo.

It is the goal of the Espinoza Boxing Club to always fight for our fighter’s best interests and to maximize their potential.

HOLLYWOOD, FL, March 30 – It’s clear to see that Moscow’s Mohammed Hadji Abdusalamov is starting to make a habit of first round knockouts after he took out Alabama’s Larry White in the opening round Friday night at the A La Carte Pavilion in Tampa, Florida.

The victory was the former amateur star’s fourth as a pro, with all of his wins coming via first round knockout. But the ferocious power puncher remains humble.

“I don’t go in there looking for a knockout, but if I see an opening, I’m going to take it,” said Abdusalamov. “I just want to keep improving, keep working hard, and more good things are going to come.”

Abdusalamov, whose career is being guided by Seminole Warriors Boxing and Sergio Malani, hopes to be back in the ring as soon as possible. A date and opponent for his next fight will be announced shortly.
