Tommy Morrison Returns to the Ring on January 31st 2009

Tommy Morrison17.01.09 - By Srithar Visuasam: Former WBO Heavyweight Champion Tommy ‘The Duke’ Morrison (48-3, 42KOs) is set to return to the ring on 31 January 2009 to take on Wyoming based fighter Corey Williams (7-9-2, 4 KOs) in Ultimate Xplosion 12 - The Last Stand at the Albany Fair Grounds, Wyoming, US. This will be the third bout since Morrison’s comeback to the ring in February 2007 after being out of the sport for 11 years due to testing HIV positive in 1996. In his two previous bouts ‘The Duke’ recorded stoppage victories.

Morrison appears set for a busy year in 2009 and has just signed a promotional deal with Who’s Your Daddy Productions. In signing the new promotional contract, Morrison states “I am happy to have finally found a team that shares the same vision as me, regaining the world heavyweight title."

In addition, Morrison is set to head to Australia in April with the intention of formalising a challenge to one of the leading heavyweights down under. Current Australian heavyweight champion, John Hopoate appears the likely opponent though other boxers Solomon Haumono, Bob Mirovic and Nathan Briggs are also being considered. Morrison is being brought by Australian promoter Peter Maniatis, where he will headline a black tie dinner on April 17 as a fundraiser to his charity KO Aids.

The main support bout for the January 31 card in Wyoming will be former world female lightweight champion Mia St John (45-9-2, 18 KOs) against Wyoming’s own Veronica Mahling (2-2, 2KOs).
