News: Darren Sutherland; Jesse Brinkley; Darwish Brothers

GEORGI ILIEV has vowed to make it an Irish double when he faces Darren Sutherland at Dublin City University. The Bulgarian is the new opponent for the Olympic bronze medallist who makes his professional debut at Dublin City University on December 18. Iliev, might have a patchy record but caused a stunning upset when he travelled to Limerick in July and knocked out Castlebar's Keith Cresham inside round..

Iliev's respected manager Philippe Fondu warned that Sutherland will be up against it when he performs in front of his many friends who study at DCU.

Fondu said: "Sutherland will quickly learn that get hitting by a professional is different from the amateur code.

"Iliev is a rough, tough kid from one of the worst areas of Bulgaria and cannot believe this opportunity has come.

"He can make a name for himself by beating Sutherland and is coming to win.

"If Sutherland wants to know about his power, he should call Cresham. Iliev has told me to expect another Irishman to be on the floor in seconds."

Iliev has stepped in for countryman Merdjitin Iuseinov who pulled out earlier this week with a shoulder injury.

Top of the bill is Rendall Munroe's (16-1) European super-bantamweight title defence against Italy's Fabricio Trotta (13-4-2).

Irish light-middleweight champion Jamie Moore (30-3) boxes a six rounder ahead of his crack at the vacant European light-middleweight early next year

London based Irishman Martin Power (19-3), the former British bantamweight champion faces a tough test against Gary Davies (7-2-1).

In a special attraction Craig Watson (13-2) defends his Commonwealth welterweight title against Adnan Amar (22-1), a protégé of Dubliner Brendan Ingle.

A third title bout on the bill sees Jason Booth (30-5) risks his Commonwealth bantamweight crown against Sean Hughes (15-7-1).

Tickets for the big Dublin bill cost 100 Euros and 40 Euros and are available from www.frankmaloney.com www.ticketmaster..ie. To order from Ireland by phone call 08 18 719300, and from UK 0871 226 1508.

JESSE BRINKLEY: "IT'S NOT BUSINESS, IT'S PERSONAL BETWEEN JOEY GILBERT AND ME!!"

YERINGTON, NV (December 1, 2008) "Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give you the answer that you want me to" goes the old Fleetwood Mac song and Jesse Brinkley proudly uses it as his intro music on his cell phone.

"I tell it like it is and not everyone wants to hear it, if you ask me a question I'll be upfront and honest with you, every time" says the lifelong Yerington, NV resident.

"People have been asking me for the last few years about Joey Gilbert and I always tell them the truth—he's not that good and he knows it. And that's why we won't be fighting.

But now, we're set to fight and after all this time it's a personal thing for me. Everyone else I have fought it was inside the business of boxing. For this fight, it's personal, I flat out don't like the guy and I'm knocking him out."

Details of the long awaited Yerington/Reno showdown will be announced shortly. "Folks in Yerington and Reno are very excited about this fight. For the last three months all I've heard it "when do tickets go on sale and what round are you knocking him out," said Brinkley, a teammate of Gilbert's on The Contender Season One.

About his current training schedule, Brinkley said, "I've been in Pawtucket, Rhode Island training for the last eight weeks before coming home for Thanksgiving. The bottom line is I've already beaten guys who are better than Gilbert. This year alone I've beaten Otis Griffin and Jason Naugler, they're both better than him. He's not as good as Anthony Bonsante and I've beaten him twice."

Gilbert has taken two recent tune up fights after a thirteen month layoff. Said Brinkley, "I saw that he had two fights, what does he think that fighting "Joe the Plumber" type guys is going to make him confident that he can beat me. The bottom line is he's lying to himself and his people are lying to him.. He'll only realize that he's been lied to when he's being counted out by the referee in our fight."

The Brinkley/Gilbert bout will be promoted by "Let's Get It On" Promotions of Reno, Nevada and and Las Vegas based TKO BOXING Promotions.

Darwish Brothers are Back with Big Time Boxing

East Rutherford, N.J. - The Darwish Brothers' Knockout Promotions are proud to announce a seven-fight boxing card scheduled for January 22, 2009. Entitled "Knockout Night at the Meadowlands", this will be the first ever boxing action to take place in the lavish Meadowlands Sheraton Hotel. The Sheraton is located directly across from Giants Stadium, the home of the New York Jets and the Super Bowl champions New York Giants. It is also across from the IZOD Center, which plays host to the NJ Nets basketball team.

The Meadowlands Complex is in the process of a massive facelift with the construction of the new Giants Stadium and the Xanadu complex. With North Jersey evolving into an entertainment and sports epicenter, the scene is ripe to provide the area with compelling boxing excitement.

"With the new president coming into office and boxing being at it's most popular level in decades, the time is right to place boxing alongside the other major sports in the Meadowlands" said Wally Darwish, who promotes alongside brother Hani. "We want to give local fans the opportunity to see the best fighters in the state live. Our goal is to not just have a boxing show, but a boxing event. With the people feeling down about the economy, we want to provide them with a night of entertainment to relieve their stress. The way to do that is by giving the fans more bang for their buck."

The Sheraton Hotel is located at 2 Meadowlands Plaza in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Tickets and bout information will be announced shortly.
