KATY KLINEFELTER RETURNS IN BALTIMORE THIS THURSDAY NIGHT

IOWA CITY, IOWA (October 27, 2008) Super bantamweight Katy Klinefelter will return to the ring this Thursday night, October 30th at the annual Jonathan Ogden Foundation Charity Boxing Event at the Martin’s Valley Mansion in Hunt Valley, MD.

The 21 year old Klinefelter, a former amateur standout and currently a senior at the University of Iowa , will face pro debuting Alabama native Jessica Rojo in a scheduled four rounder.

Klinefelter, 1-0 (1KO), made her pro debut on August 22nd at the Johnson County Fairground in Iowa City with a first round knockout of Diamond Martinez.

The hard working Klinefelter combines her full time student requirements with her active training schedule. She will graduate in May 2009 with a degree in Exercise Science.

About her upcoming bout she stated, “I train all year round so I’m ready when the phone rings. This is similar to the amateurs in that I don’t know much about Rojo so I just need to concentrate on what I need to do to win. I’m in great shape and very well prepared for battle on Thursday night.”

In regards to her growing fan base in Iowa City , Klinefelter said, “The fans here have always been very supportive and that means a great deal to me. I’m hoping to fight back in Iowa City in the near future.”

Said promoter Chet Koerner of TKO Boxing Promotions. “Everyone was very impressed with Katy’s pro debut. We’re glad to bring her out to the East Coast for the boxing fans in the Baltimore area to see her.

Katy’s has a great deal of amateur experience and our plan is to keep her active in the coming year. This bout on Thursday night is the first step towards that.”

Klinefelter’s amateur career included winning bronze at the 2007 US National Championships. In 2006, she won a gold medal at the Under 19 U.S. National Championships, silver at the National Golden Gloves, silver at the Brazilian Open Games, and bronze at the U.S. Championships (only defeated by eventual champion). Katy finished 2006 ranked #3 in the nation at 125 pounds; perhaps the deepest division of talent in women’s boxing today.

Klinefelter finished third in the national year end rankings in 2005, won the senior 119 and 125 pound championships at the 2004 Midwest Regional tournament and won the 2003 US Championships and 2003 Women’s National Golden Gloves title. Klinefelter started her illustrious amateur career in 2002 winning the Women’s National Golden Gloves (13-14 year old division) at 119 pounds.

Katy’s sister Emily was also a much heralded amateur boxer and is undefeated in the pro ranks under the TKO Boxing Promotions banner..

Klinefelter is managed by award winning boxing manager Cameron Dunkin who counts world champions Kelly Pavlik, Steven Luevano and Nonito Donaire amongst his clients. She is trained by Adam Pollack at the ICOR Boxing Club in Iowa City .
