Interview with Gerald Gray

08.09.04 - By Ike Enwereuzor - - New York State Lightweight Champion Gerald "Don't Play" Gray of Brooklyn, New York, will take on Russian Sergey Sorokia (16-1-1, 11KO's) Friday September 10, 2004 on Jacqui Frazier-Mary Almagae card at Tropicana Casino Hotel, Atlantic City, NJ.

The New York Lightweight king is a last minute replacement for Sorokia who was supposed to face Frank Houghtaling of Albany, NY, who pulled out. This is what Gray had to say about his upcoming bout:

Ike: How long have you been preparing for this fight?

Gray: I was called on a last minutes notice but I know I have what it takes to destroy that guy. It's going to be a good show. We're ready to go!

Ike: What do you know about Sorokia?

Gray: I don't know much about him but I hope he's coming to fight because Gerald Gray don't play.

Ike: Please tell us about your fight with Billy Irwin a few years ago?

Gray: It was an exciting fight and I beat him. I have what it takes to beat most of the fighters in my weight class. Our goal is to fight for the USBA or NABF title soon. I just got to win my next fight. I have a big surprise for Boxing fans.

Ike: What is your future Boxing Goal?

Gray: Like I said, I want to fight for another title. I have held the New York State Lightweight title for years now. All these fighters don't want to fight me, so I have to take any fight just to fight. I'll not duck anyone. Instead, I'll step up in weight class. We have tried to secure a fight with Michael Clark camp, even Julian Wheeler, Antonio Ramirez,
Calvin Davis or Manfredy.

Ike: What should Boxing fans expect Friday Sept 10?

Gray: Everybody knows Jacqui Frazier is the main event, but I hate to say that my fight with the Russian fighter is going to be the fight of the night, so fans must come out to Atlantic City, NJ this weekend because it will be a lots of
entertainment. I want to thank all my fans for always coming out. See you all at the fight. Gerald "Don't
Play" Gray is the next future world champion, believe it or not. God Bless you all.

Ike: Thanks for your time.

Gray: See you all at the fight
