WBO orders Brewster to fight Lance Whitaker or James Toney

07.09.04 - Lamon Brewster has been ordered by the WBO to defend his title against either Lance Whitaker or James Toney. WBO President Francisco Valcarcel stated today that Brewster would not be allowed to defend against Evander Holyfield, as planned by Brewster’s promoter Don King.

At this point, the most likely opponent will be Lance Whitaker, who is currently ranked #5 by the WBO. However, if Toney decides not to face Vitali Klitschko for the WBC title, then Toney will be next in line for Brewster. As of now, Evander Holyfield isn’t ranked in the top #15 by the WBO and will not be considered for Brewster’s next fight. Brewster’s next defense may be delayed due to a fractured cheekbone and a busted eardrum that he received against Kali Meehan on Saturday night.
